The creator of the hit cartoon – which airs on Fox in the US and BBC Three in the UK - told The Hollywood Reporter that he is still very fond of the cartoon but fears it may have outstayed its welcome. He said: 'Part of me thinks that Family Guy should have already ended. I think seven seasons is about the right lifespan for a TV series. 'I talk to the fans and in a way I'm kind of secretly hoping for them to say we're done with it. There are plenty of people who say the show is kind of over the hill… but still the vast majority go pale in the face when I mention the possibility.' MacFarlane also mentioned the possibility of turning the cartoon into a film as Matt Groening did with The Simpsons, saying: ' Creatively, that would be the way to do it for me. Do a really fantastic final episode while the show is still strong.' www.metro.co.uk/tv/878528-seth-macfarlane-family-guy-should-have-ended-already

I was just thinking of this after watching the "mushroom" episode. I've always loved the show, all seasons, but it's starting to get to the point where it's just, kinda different. If he can come up with another funny show sorta similar like American Dad! or whatever, then he should go for it, or even a spinoff with the characters.

^ I hated American Dad. I saw one episode and I thought it sucked. I hope Family Guy isn't ending anytime soon. I love that show. It's The Simpsons that should've bit the dust a LONG, LONG time ago. That show hasn't been funny in YEARS. Talk about a show that has overstayed it's welcome. It's The Simpsons, without a doubt.

I like Family Guy, but I agree its gone on for too long. I like the first seasons the best, they seemed the most original, not forced and didn't rely so much on sex/drugs/language to get jokes across.
Also I like how some episodes seem to follow after previous ones, such as when Peter was fired. That story went on as well as the boat he got in one episode. I liked the continuation of plots rather than new story's each week that don't really relate to anything.

I thought season one was terrible, but have enjoyed it since.

But they will get to 25 seasons; I just hope they decide to end it there because it isn't getting any better. I think Family Guy has a couple more seasons in it but if he doesn't want to do it anymore than he should just end it in a season or two and like he said do a movie or something else with the characters.

No but seriously, I think they should go on another season, and see where it leads to.

I still think The Simpsons are awesome. Not as good as it used to be, but still enjoyable. They're probably just trying to go 25 years with it. I could see Family Guy ending at Season 10. Unless this is Season 10, not keeping track of this stuff very well

I pretty much don't agree with Seth.
Look at South Park & the Simpsons, both is running over ten years...and still every person that watch those two series still enjoy watching them.

As bad as the show has gotten, I kinda wish they would make a Family Guy Movie. I believe Seth said he wants it to be a musical like Bigger, Longer, and Uncut was.

If they end in the next year or so, I chalk the death up to their HD transition.
Their new animation quality made a lot of new things possible - things that probably werent needed. Their shows have that formula of just stupid jokes revolvng around an idiot plot for 30 minutes. The season opener was a good example of that, but they havent been that consistent; its like for every episode they do thats true to typical family guy fashion, they do one that is completley different and leads people to question their longevity.

Family Guy was munch better in the firt few seasons. But, then again, that's true for a lot of TV Shows.

I could literally watch the 2000-2008 episodes for days, and not get tired of it.
But the new episodes just don't have it.

There are plenty of shows still good after 7 seasons, but Family Guy wasn't good in the first 7 so why would it be good after 7.
South Parks best 2 seasons were easily 8 and 9, and season 15 has been one of the best seasons ever. Simpsons season 21-present is pretty much as good as it was in season 8.

This doesn't surprise me, I remember reading Seth saying a few years back that he'd hate for Family Guy to last a long time like The Simpsons has.
I use to love Family Guy. The first three seasons are epic, and the fourth and fifth were pretty great too. I loved Blue Harvest and the 100th two parter episode from season six too, but after the 100th things just started to get bad, and it wasn't long before I abandon the show and only saw the occasional episode. I've still enjoyed some; Road To The Multiverse is probably the best Road To episode; Dog Gone is one of my all-time favorites, their was a good plot, the humor was defiantly present (loved the PETA jokes), and the ending scene with the hug in all was probably the most emotional scene the show had since Pearl died in Brian Wallows And Peter Swallows; Dial Meg For Murder was another really good one, due to similar reasoning to Dog Gone, plus it was a good Meg episode; Quagmire's Dad and The Splendid Source (Bender was in it!) were both funny episodes that I enjoyed; Partial Terms Of Endearment was great too; "And Then There Were Fewer" was really excellent, I loved most of that episode and was hooked by it; New Kidney In Town is another one that ranks as one of my favorite, loved the emotion in this one (particularly Brian and Peter's interaction in the hospital at when the results of Brian's proposal were found out), and the main story had a ton of funny moments, Doctor Hartman is hilarious.
Those were quite a lot of episodes I just grave praise, but I've seen more episodes I hated than those I listed. I'm going to stop now, before I get on a rant of the episodes I've hated.
