It ended for me when McMahon cut a promo in the dawn of the corporate ministry saying that Undertaker took his gimmick way too far, that it got to his head. When he said that I literally went

Around 95-96 my dad would tell me its fake but i wasnt convinced lol, by 98 i knew the wrestling was fake. The storylines i didnt know were scripted till about 99-2000 but i didnt care because it was religion for me to watch raw weekly anyway.

I was told it was fake by my parents since I started watching at age 4. However, I didn't really understand the extent of "fake." As others said, as an 11 year old watching Survivor Series 1997, it all ended.
Up until this point, I didn't know McMahon owned the company. I was young when the steroid scandal broke, and the internet wasn't nearly as prominent. After Montreal, it all just came crashing down. Coupled with the rise of the internet, weekly spoilers, rumors of who was going to WCW, rumors of who was coming to WWF, backstage politics etc etc....... it all came down. But it was still a fun time to be a fan, you never knew what was going to happen

Can't remember, though I remember being on tenterhooks when it came to Survivor Series 2001 and the whole end of the Invasion thing, think it was more to the fact I didn't want WCW/ECW to stay alive over the WWF (As a youngster I never read the Internet so never knew the plans).

I knew when I started watching it. But I still enjoyed it and continue to do so.

I guess I would say I didn't become a "smark" until 1997 despite my parents constantly laughing at how worked up I'd get over it. I think deep down, I knew but didn't want to accept it I was 14 at the time, but everything in 97 just blew it wide open. I continued to enjoy it though and still do today.
But it's like my dad says, he misses the days where deep down you kind of knew it was planned, but there was still that hint of "is this real?" That's why stuff like Punk's shoot before MITB was so special. And the Nexus attack in June of 2010, those were moments of "is this real" and I think wrestling is really missing that

For me it pretty much ended after Eddie Guerrero died because up until that point I still wanted to believe it was real but there was always this feeling that it wasn't but when Eddie passed it just blew it open for me and I really haven't looked at it the same since then.
I still watch and love wrestling but to be honest it took alot of the fun out of it for me and then Punk finally renewed my faith.

Survivor Series 2003 when the ad for "Un-scripted" came on, it broke my heart. When I'm watching it though, I forget that it's scripted. Link?

At first I thought it was real (1990/91), by late 1991 I accepted it was 2 (or more) guys who were trying to beat each other in a match without hurting one another but still didn't think of it as scripted. For me it started around when I saw Beyond the Mat for the first time and/or when they started recognising Vince as owner of WWF (whichever was first). *** Edit *** Having read some stuff on Wiki I think it must have been around 1994/95 with Hogan etc jumping ship to WCW. I remember back in the day when someone like Warrior would dissapear for a year or so (or the Model) - of course back then you didn't have the internet to read saying they were fired, suspended etc so I just thought he (Warrior) had returned to 'Parts Unknown'.

I knew right when I started watching wrestling, actually I think I knew before I watched wrestling. I still really enjoyed watching it and would defend it any day of the week. I was probably the only kid in my school who liked wrestling. Everyone else would just say it's fake and they're all on steroids. But I knew that the wrestlers I loved still busted their asses week in and week out. I think that knowing wrestling is fake, but still knowing how hard everyone in the business works, is all that's important.

I remember when SUPERSTAR BILLY GRAHAM tore up BOB BACKLUNDS belt on TV Staturday morning and I was shaking as a kid, thats how upset I was....DAMN,those were the days!
Being I'm pobababy one of if not the oldest guy on these forums,I'd say early to mid 80's I found out it was scripted..but I still love it!

I don't remember ever thinking it was real. I started collecting wrestling cards before I ever watched it -- my friend had cable and we didn't, and I got into collecting the cards with him. I guess my parents told me it was fake, they used to go to wrestling shows in the 60s. By the time we got cable in the summer of '91, I knew. And didn't care.

I always knew, it's the only thing people talk about when they aren't fans of wrestling Funnily enough my girlfriend and her whole family (mum, dad, sisters, brother) didn't know until we got together, they thought it was barbaric and were surprised I watched it so I was like "Yeah but it's not like they're hurting each other it's all choreographed and scripted" and they didn't believe me. So I showed them a match between Santino Marrella and someone else and they were like "I can't believe we've spent our whole lives refusing to watch it when the whole thing's a kid's show" they felt so stupid. I'm not with that girl anymore but by that time we'd been together for two years and she even watched it with me every week. I can't believe she didn't pick that up from hours of it every week.

Probably early 90's, but it wasn't until 1997 when I got online that I got a better understanding.

Hulk Hogan made it almost impossible to fully impossible to believe, even as a kid.
Yet, when I woulkd switch channels and the The Four Horsemen destroying Dusty, Sting, Luger and so forth I would stop and think "Maybe THESE guys are real and the WWF is just the fake version..."
God Bless the NWA and old school World Championship Wrestling.
