Obviously he ditched the mask on Raw and he's not grotesque anymore but he's also not smiling like when he was Dashing. They really can't have put him back to being a generic heel after having to amazing and well received gimmicks. That'd be so stupid on WWE's part

I think Codys gimmick is just Cody Rhodes. Why does everybody need a gimmick? Why can't they just put on good matches and that's it?

I'm not saying the "jump to conclusion" is about him changing his gimmick. I'm saying the conclusion of him going back to just a generic heel is an insane conclusion to come to considering he JUST lost the mask and changed his music, which is just another version of the same theme he's had for over a year. |

Not having a protective mask doesn't mean he's suddenly generic. He's developed a very interesting character, I see this as the best of his Dashing and Grotesque personas put together.

So far, I don't like it.
But we haven't ACTUALLY seen the new character yet.. so just let it unfurl and then judge.

It's been one night and one 15 second vignette so lets see where this goes. And lets hope Kofi Kingston learns how to take a Cross Rhodes before those two get into the ring with each other again. If I were to guess, it seems like some type of sinister twist on the Dashing character, but I'm looking forward to whatever he turns it into personally. |

I think it's a blend of the two....Grotesque helped him to push the envelope further and show a more aggressive side of himself. Now that he has had success with that new side (IC championship, defeating Orton and others) he has gained confidence back and perhaps realized he doesn't need the mask. He still smiled on Raw so it's got a bit of the Dashing worked in there. The bottom line is both gimmicks had to do with his looks and going from one extreme to the other..now he's at another level and ready to move on from the mask.
