The UFC is going to strike while the iron is hot. Following a successful lighter-weights season of "The Ultimate Fighter" reality series on Spike TV, the UFC is going even lighter and adding a 125-pound flyweight division. UFC president Dana White confirmed the long-rumored division – which will be the UFC's eighth – should be announced within the next few days. "It's happening," he said. "I told you guys it's happening, and it's happening." When? "This weekend," White said after Wednesday's UFC on FOX 2 press conference in Chicago (before hopping on a jet to Toronto for this weekend's UFC 140 event). "I should have something by this weekend." The success of "TUF 14," a first-ever season to feature 135-pound bantamweights and 145-pound featherweights, helped solidify White's decision. The UFC boss has hinted at the implementation of the weight class for about a year, though recent reports suggested the UFC might put the project on the back burner. But White said that won't be the case, and it seems "TUF 14" played a role. While Diego Brandao won the "TUF 14" featherweight crown this past weekend, John Dodson – a fighter best suited for flyweight, where he's world-ranked – won the bantamweight title in exciting fashion. "If anything proved how awesome the small guys are it was this season of 'The Ultimate Fighter,'" White said. "How about the finale? The finale was incredible. Diego's (fight) was probably the best one-round fight I've ever seen, and Dodson was just incredible." Since the UFC first hinted at adopting the weight class, the flyweight division has gone under the spotlight. Tachi Palace Fights, which has the market on 125-pound talent cornered, has competitors such as Ian McCall, Darrell Montague, Jussier da Silva and Ulysses Gomez who have expressed interest in a move to the UFC (with Tachi's blessing). Additionally, the UFC has a number of guys in its bantamweight division who could make the drop, including Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson. Just don't expect White to force their hand. "I'm not moving down anybody down," he said. "Those guys can make the decisions themselves, what weight division they want to fight in. But I have a feeling that 125-pound division is going to be as nasty as (155) and (170). There's going to be a lot of talent there." Additionally, he suggested international-recruiting efforts could land some prized flyweights. "At 125 pounds, I think you're going to see a lot of Hispanic and Asian fighters now coming to come compete at that weight," he said. mmajunkie.com/news/26447/ufc-to-announce-new-125-pound-flyweight-class-this-weekend.mma

I wonder if UFC has to pay Tachi Palace to get their fighters into the UFC. They have basically all the top ranked dudes in there. Some of which are still in multi-fight contracts.

Ugh i'm sorry but i feel like this is going to be just like Lightweight, featherweight, and bantemweught. A division that severely will be lacking in talent and have one guy dominating people over and over again. Like the addition of a new weight but he should have pumped up those 3 divisions before this decision was made.

Dana White said once that every top 10 LW guy has the ability to finish any other top 10 LW guy at anytime, that's what makes that division so crazy and unpredictable.

It's pretty cool... with the addition of Flyweight, the UFC will now have 8 weight-divisions and champions - just like boxing used to have, before all the ABC titles and extra weight classes.

155 is seriously the most stacked division. Any of those guys can win. Look at Lauzon/Guillard.

Ok so after thing about it i might have been a little off saying LW. But seriously we need to fill up the other divisions First. I feel like HW,LHW and LW are the only "stacked" divisions in the UFC but that mostly due to Anderson Sliva and GSP clearing their divisions out and the FW and BW divisions just recently being added. Just think they should fill up those 4 divisions before adding another

But how can you deny that BW is lacking when we're getting Faber/Cruz again already when they just fought a few months ago? And when it comes to featherweight there is Aldo, Mendes, Sung Jung, Nunes, Poirier, Brandau, and KenFlo. Other then them 7 who I would consider the top 7 there are a few up starts like Josh Clopton, Marcus Brimage, Stephen Bass, and Jimy Hettes. But maybe half of those 11 fighters will even make it to a title fight. So tell me how 11 fighters is a stacked division? So don't tell me i don't know anything about MMA and the fighters in the divisions. But that's typical Wfigs jumping on someone simply because they have a different opinion then you do ;D

We're getting Faber/Cruz III because the UFC loves a trilogy. Many feel Faber won the last fight and with controversy over a decision, comes a finale. Faber is the most recognizable name they have in the FW/BW/FW divisions the one the fans remember from any of the WEC cross overs. B. I'm saying you don't know any of the fighters because you basically just named TUF cast members and a few guys you looked up from recent cards. Lets completely forget about the best fighters in the division that you've never heard of...good idea. Jose Aldo Chad Mendes Hitsu Hioki Chan Sung Jung Erik Koch Kenny Florian Mark Hominick Dustin Poirier Bart Palaszewski Tyson Griffin Diego Nunes Jonathon Brookins Mike Brown *TUF contestants The list can continue. The division is EXTREMELY deep, they're just fighters people (including yourself) aren't familiar with. The division isn't even a year old yet and you're complaining that it isn't competitive? Hmm.
