For those of you who don't remember, awhile back I had posted problems between my parents and my girlfriend. I won't go into detail, but I will say it made me very scared these past few months.
Starting last year, on Thanksgiving, I made a pre-New Year's Resoultion; that I would save up enough money by cutting back on my personaly spending to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend, Sarah. At that time last year, we had been together for about a year and a half. Well, from then until August, I was able to save up enough. Now, because I had problems with my parents, I was deathly afraid of what they thought. I had one of my friends order it for me because I did not want it to be shipped to my house. He agreed and I was able to order one. I hung onto it until now because I was afraid of what my parents would think.
On Christmas, I decided to man up and tell my parents my plan. I was afraid of so much; them kicking me out, taking my car, as they pay for it, or not agreeing to cosign for my student loans for school. But I was shocked to hear what they said. Not only were they okay with it, but they said that I couldn't have found anyone better and they would be more than happy to have her in out family.
So it was clear. I had talked to my parents and I had talked it over with her father back in October. All that was left was to ask her. I really wanted to do it on Christmas, but I figured that would be too predictable and that I had a lot going on with my family for dinner.
So I decided that I would do it today. I gave my girlfriend her gifts on Christmas Eve. Luckily, her tree was still up, which worked great with my plan. I went into her house and she was getting ready. SO I quickly ran into her living room and stuck the ring and its case in her tree, far back on a branch. I put it low enough so I would have to kneel in order to get it. She came in and was really happy to see me. I started to tell her how much I loved her and how I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I looked at the tree with a puzzled look and I said it looked like she forgot to open one of her presents. She went over really confused and said she didn't see anything. So I walked over, knelt down and grabbed the ring out. With the ring in hand, I asked her to marry me. Without hesitation, she started to laugh and got really emotional. She said yes! I haven't told my parents yet, but I plan on telling them either later on tonight or tomorrow.
She was so happy and I could not be happier! We have a major Christmas party over her house and we are going to make a huge announcement to everyone!
Just thought I would let everyone know and I could not be any happier with anything. I am 20 and it is so great knowing I get to marry the 24 year old girl of my dreams.
