movies like The King's Speech, The Iron Lady and all films like that? I honestly don't see why anyone would want to go see them, a film about a female prime minister or a king with a stutter just screams a must see  No it doesn't it sounds  ing awful and people who see them are just throwing their money away imo. I even heard before that Meryl Streep and the Iron Lady are up for Oscars already. WTF? How longs it been out? What do you think of these types of films |

I think I kinda get what you mean. Maybe not in your exact words, but I do find that most Oscar nominated films bore me to tears. I'd like to think that I'm mature enough to appreciate a decent film, but movies like The King's Speech, Benjamin Button, and Black Swan put me to sleep.

Well I mean they aren't everybodys type of movies, but I'm sure fans of Oscar Fodder movies ask the very same question about other genres of movies.
I love film, period. I enjoy a good movie, no matter the genre. Oscar season is one of my favorite movie going seasons. I love period pieces, and epic dramas, but you don't. It's just difference of opinion....

I personally loved King's Speech and I love The Artist as well. The Artist is a black and white silent film released in December and it's nominated for Best Picture Musical/Drama in the Golden Globes. Different strokes.

I like movies that provoke thought.
I can't find the appeal in mindless comedies and big-budget summer blockbusters. Those are the worst types of movies, in my opinion. Bad movies have always existed, and I do have my share, but they are the only kind that people are ever interested in anymore. Moviegoers aren't anywhere near as intelligent as they once were. They're too close-minded, too bias. They settle for cheap thrills rather than enlightenment. Word of mouth and money made aren't the only factors of success. Some of the greatest films in history were bombs. I hate that a lot of my friends turn down movies that I suggest because they're out of their element, and don't want to be taken out of their comfort zone. I'm always unbias and rarely judge movies by the way they look. I almost always watch a movie before ever giving an opinion. Film is my biggest passion and I watch and study every individual movie, no matter how bad.

Being an actor, it's just in my blood. +1 Karma I'm happy to see that someone feels the same way that I do about film. My passion goes beyond just seeing images on a screen. Using your ears is as important as using your eyes. Listening to dialogue and connecting keypoints, and dissecting the film is also required to truly understand it. |

I enjoy those films A LOT. I would rather see a film like King's Speech or Iron Lady showing how an actor really gets their role, over a movie like Inception that's a lot based on what they do with effects and such, over full character development. These are the type of movies that people used to watch before everything exploded. This reminds me of that thread calling Citizen Kane boring. |

Films like Transformers and Pirates Of The Carribean just do not do that for me. Sure, most people mine these kind of fiels for entertainment, and if you do and thats what you enjoy, then fair enough. I would just rather watch films like The King's Speech and The Artist (which, by the way, is absolutely ing brilliant) as that's where I find my enjoyment. |

Yeah, but saying that, Action is one of my least favourite genres which is why i don't like those series, just give me an interesting plot, some good actors and i'll be happy for 90 mins/2 hours how ever long the film may be |

A well told story is good (no matter the subject). If a movie is well-crafted and really opens the world of these characters up to the audience, then people will enjoy it.
The genre is a matter of personal taste (horror, drama, fantasy, sci-fi) but all are merely stories.
