When Vader debuted, WWF had an awful main event scene, one of the weakest in history. No reason he shouldn't have run through the division. In 1996, I did not buy pretty boy Shawn beating Vader, no chance. Its weird cause Vince loves big guys, he put the title on Yokozuna twice, and Yoko had never drawn anywhere else. Vader was established and was treated like garbage. Vince loved holding back WCW talent. I believe it was said that Vince was never big on the Vader character in the first place but was convinced to sign him because the WWF seriously needed main event guys. Vader never had a chance to begin w/ because Vince didn't like him from the moment they signed him. Later on when HBK was a terrible draw, Vader was origionally suppose to go over at SummerSlam for the title, but after Shawn threw a fit, we got the crappy ending to their match where Vader "won" twice, but ended up losing in the end. Guess Vince wanted to keep em both strong for a future match, as evident by the origional Survivor Series 1996 main event between them, but Vader was pulled because of overseas trouble he caused.

If Vince would've only put HALF of the time/effort/money into Vader that he did Marc Mero...

I loved Vader. His Japan and early WCW days where epic, although I did also enjoy his WWF stuff but his favorite appearance has got to be on Boy meets world!

Vader was quite athletic for his size as well. Everyone blames it on Shawn, but does anyone else think that it has to do with McMahon taking WCW's stars and burying them? You hit the nail on the head. I have nothing but admiration for Vader, but I've never bought in the rumors that Vince was ready to give him a chance to carry the company. Vader was fresh off a feud where he lost to Hogan. There is NO WAY that Vince was going to let his #1 guy seem secondary to WCW's #1 guy.

I'm not sure he was necessarily built up to be fed to Shawn. I do think they had a Vader title run planned. Wasn't a Vader/Warrior feud for the title in the works in 1996? I feel like they mentioned that on the Warrior DVD.

I have to say I think he was.the end result was a HBK victory in the feud ALWAYS. never heard about Vader vs Warrior for the title....but I wouldnt discount it.

All I know is that when I watch HBK vs. Vader from SummerSlam 1996 and Shawn has a legit temper tantrum in the middle of the ring from a botched spot I get pissed off.
90s Shawn was unprofessional and a crybaby.

This isn't the first time Vader said poop on WWF television. At Bad Blood 1997 before his tag team flag match Vader say something about Canada being #1 is a bunch of bull poop or something. Good times. Anyway, I don't remember Vader calling himself a piece of poop or where the angle went from there... it went nowhere.......then Bradshaw called him a fat bastard before Breakdown 98 and he was annihilated and left. absolutely awful treatment of this man. Yeah Vader in 1998 was sad. Hell with the exception of his 1996 Royal Rumble match, his entire WWF career is sad compared to what it should have been.

Shawn's my all-time favorite wrestler and even I get POed at that. Mistakes happen from time to time, even for veterans. They should try to be covered up, not have attention called to them.

i kinda feel vaders career was dead after that crappy strap match with hogan. vader got buried in that fued. if vince boooked vader in wwf to be a powerhouse, like his wcw days, that would have been awesome. yeah he worked stiff, but he was very athletic. hell, we would prolly have vader in the WWE HoF if things went down a different road!
