Kinda surprised Ospreay won but there's th 2 Wrestle Grand Slam stadium shows coming up in may. Ibushi and Shingo chasing could be big draws. I’m a huge fan of Shingo!!! Would love to see The Last Dragon as World Champion!!! I'd lose my mind if Shingo won the title! He's one of my all time faves. Unfortunately, I think his ceiling in NJPW is as Openweight Champ & occasional World title challenger. Likely the new Goto.

Ok, I am confused...
What I thought happened: Ibushi held the Championship and Intercontinental Championship at the same time. NJPW decided to merge the titles into one Championship. The other day, Will Ospreay won this unified championship.
But looking at NJPW Profile section on their website: It lists Ospreay as this Unified Champion. But then still lists Ibushi as IWGP Champion and Intercontinental Champion.
So what did NJPW do with the championships? Merge the Intercontinental into the Main Championship or create a whole new championship separate from the both of them?

This World title no longer has the IWGP lineage. New Japan’s website can be a mess.

So what happened in the end: NJPW awarded this new championship to Ibushi. And that is what Ospreay won. But does that mean Ibushi is still a dual champion defending both the IWGP Championship and Intercontinental Championship?

Huge blow to NJPW. Their roster is already stretched.
Here’s to Will having a full and speedy recovery.

Gutted. Will was on his way to another career year, and really putting himself in contention for that #1 PWI spot if he had a good run with the title. Hopefully he can recover well and come back as good as ever.

Are we to assume that this is basically the same neck injury from a few years ago that made him change his style and contemplate for a second retiring from wrestling?

I am beginning to think this style truly is dangerous. Both Hiromu and Will in 3 years. Is it just because they are small?

So......Will's injury might be a work to a certain degree. From everything I can gather, Will is hurt but he could still wrestle. He just went home.

Never know how true it is but apparently morale is low and there are a lot of guys who aren’t gonna resign

They just gonna give the belt back to Okada at this point? I know he has a bad back but seems like the safest bet at this point?

Okada & Takagi are the only acceptable options.

My opinion on the brand new champion is not on the guys talent but with everything that New Japan has struggled with in the past year and the reports that they are bleeding money and are gonna have to make some tough decisions on contracts, I’m shocked they didn’t just put the belt on Okada, your most appealing matches you have coming up that can put butts in the seats when people in Japan will be cautious for months to come are with Okada as your champion. Especially after a year of belt roulette and experimenting with a bunch of different guys on top.
