WCW through away what could have been one of the best years ever in 1998. Had Sting gone over Hogan cleanly at Starrcade 1997, they could have built him, Goldberg, and Hart up all year and built towards a huge triple threat match between the three at Starrcade 1998. It was so simple that even a kid could have wrote it. Sting continues to dominate the nWo and WCW and holds onto the world title for a year. Goldberg continues his undefeated streak all year. Hart comes in at the end of 1997 and has a chip on his shoulder about montreal and wants to prove he is still the best and also starts going through WCW's top names. Then the three face off in a huge triple threat match to end the year.
Sadly Hogan and Nash's creative control contracts wouldn't have allowed this to happen, but had WCW had any leadership and convinced Hogan and Nash otherwise, they could have had an amazing 1998 and had a Starrcade 1998 card that looked something like...
World Heavyweight Championship Sting(C) vs Goldberg vs Bret Hart
nWo vs Wolfpack Hollywood Hogan vs Kevin Nash
U.S. Championship DDP(C) vs Raven
Tag Team Championship 4 Horsemen(Chris Benoit/Dean Malenko) vs lWo(Eddie Guerrero/Chavo Guerrero)
Chris Jericho vs Macho Man Randy Savage(always thought these two could have had an amazing feud)
TV Championship Scott Steiner vs Booker T
Creuiserweight Championship Rey Mysterio vs Billy Kidman
