One thing I always hated about WCW was that they had a weird way of booking matches through out the years, many remember that stretcher match between Sid and El Gigante that ended in a pinfall for no reason, often times misplaced DQ's etc etc.
One match in particular that bothered the hell out of me was on a Nitro from the summer of 1998, which many you can or might have already seen on WWE Classic.
Anyways here's the breakdown, Jericho vs Chavo vs Stevie Ray in a triple threat match for the TV title. Towards the tail end all hell breaks loose and the ref takes a bump, Stevie ray uses his flapjack on Jericho knocking him out, and chavo takes flapjack to the head as well. Now the Giant comes out and chokeslams stevie ray.
At this point all three men are down. The ref gets up and starts the ten count, so far all this makes sense. Here is where it gets weird. Chavo is about to get to his feet so jericho distracts the ref, Chavo gets up to his feet for whatever reason he falls back down and rolls out of the ring ( i know he's selling the flapjack but he's right on the ropes and could of just held on.
Jericho now gets up, and here's what bothers me...the ref KEEPS COUNTING. If jericho is up the ref should break the count, there's no reason to keep counting once some one gets up, and if jericho is able to get up why in the hell wouldn't he pin stevie ray?? Instead Jericho taunts and tells the ref to hurry with his count for the win.
Now judging by the commentary they were selling it as Jericho winning through another loophole. Which I get, I fully understand the concept of his character here but by the means they went to get that point across was so convoluted it's not even funny.
To the average fan they might not care, but to someone like me who knows the rules of the game this urks the hell out of me.
To keep disscussion going what were some poorly booked matches you've seen in WCW Where the rules were non existent.
ALSO:
Why were their announcers so inaudible on TV?? A horrible production choice, maybe I'm just used to the WWF/E way of doing things but hearing where the wrestler is from , how tall they are, how much they weigh, really does say a lot about that wrestlers character, even if it is on a subconscious level.
One of the things that rounded out The Ultimate Warriors mystique was hearing him announced from parts unknown.
