I could care less about the legends they are a dead line full of names most modern WWE fans don't know. These figures are cool but lets face it the line doesn't have the names that move or make stores want to stock in the first place. Without Hogan, Rey Mysterio, HHH, and John Cena being working into every wave killed sales cause kids don't care about these guys.
Then Mattel does collectors a "favor" by making it a Matty exclusive that was a mistake cause Matty has been plagued with problems since day 1. Then they raise the price of each Legend $5 per a figure then tack on tax and shipping without a possibility of coupon codes (cause I have never seen one) and you are simply asking too much for an Elite of a has been. So now for a Legend you are looking at possibly at least $30 which is double what it was in stores and you don't even know what you're getting until its openned.
It wasn't even "a matter of time" in my mind for this line to get canned again they simply are asking too much for far too little. Matty is taking $5 to the Legend tag for a fancy white box and probably a sticker on the package that says ADULT COLLECTABLE. A great man once said:

I knew this line was done 2 weeks after The Rockers came out. As stated above by the MOTUC fans, if it doesn't sell-out in the first day, Matty considers it a failure. As a former fan of JLU (which also flopped on MattyCollector), I am way to familial with the signs...and I anticipate the end of DC Universe on MattyCollector this year too. I have a feeling what is hurting the DCUC sub is what is also going to hurt the WWE exclusives. There are retail versions of both the DCUC and Legends figures. Unless the DC All Stars line and the Flashbacks figures go away collectors are always going to hold out hope for characters like Andre and Poison Ivy at retail. And do you really think if Hogan signs with Mattel they wouldn't put Andre in the same Elite set as Hogan? correct (tho the first 3 waves of DCAS look & sound bad)...also part of the problem with both DC & WWE is that they are licensed properties...which MOTU is not, so they need to make up money from the large fees they pay for the right to make these. |

It sux but it's looking more and more likely that the legends line is ending. I hope maybe we can at least get 2-3 flashbacks per wave.

That still doesn't explain why a Matty exclusive WWE figure should cost more than one available in a store. They are just greedy bastards. That is easy to answer. For each figure you see in stores it is one of a hundred thousand produced which lowers total production cost. The cost of getting it to you is put on the retail stores. For Matty the production run is much smaller, dealing with putting it on the web, handling the orders and dealing with higher costumer satisfaction all lead to higher costs. Figures from collector's sites will never cost less than retail but they also allow for figures which could never be sold at retail to be sold such as MotU, Ghostbusters and WWE Legends. |

I would gladly pay the $20 or $25 plus shipping (or whatever) for characters like JR, King, Big Johnny, or getting the Divas in a timely fashion. I will not pay it for Legends...

I guess I don't understand all of the Matty hate ... I've been collecting the Ghostbusters figures for the last couple of years and I've never had a problem with them in terms of price or service.
(Of course, my only problem with the Ghostbusters line is that I don't need four different versions of Ray while still waiting on my Dana or Janine, but I digress.)
Yeah, the price is much higher than retail Elite figures but they're pretty much on par with other collector's figures from other lines and companies. I hope the line continues and think it will do well once it gets its legs. (Though I wouldn't anticipate any more Legends tag teams.)

I think Mattel outdid themselves from the start by not putting in "Legends" who were still in WWE. Bret Hart was working with them, kids would of known him and wanted him. Undertaker, everyone wants an Undertaker in debut attire. They needed to add the big names first and work in the obscure.

They really aren't doing themselves any favors by selling these for MORE than their retail counterparts, plus shipping. They have some pretty terrible choices coming out based on what actually sold at retail. Yes, we're going to suffer, but they very much did this to themselves. Andre and the Rockers (not to be confused with Barbie and the Rockers) would have sold far better at retail. They should have released them far earlier in the line, though. Even so, its all for naught anyway. Mattel basically outsmarted themselves. Now they are stuck with guaranteed slow sellers (Tully, Arn, DDP) at a higher than fair price point, PLUS SHIPPING. I know some may be excited, but they are choosing these guys over guys like Brutus the Barber Beefcake and Earthquake, which is absurd. Yeah... I collect pretty much everything Mattel does in the Elite and Legends line - and even I was disappointed with the choice of Legends we had and ended up with... Andre and Miss Elizabeth are MUST haves, but the others will probably be very slow sellers. I love the Legends line though... not just the figures, but the packaging and artwork too - they just look fantastic. I'd love it to continue - but I seriously have my doubts as to whether it will. I hope at the very least though, we get the 5 figures lined up for this year - especially Miss Elizabeth (I'm worrying they might not make her if the earlier figures are poor sellers...). It sux but it's looking more and more likely that the legends line is ending. I hope maybe we can at least get 2-3 flashbacks per wave. That's what I thought... at the moment the Elite figures are made/shipped in cases of 8 - so instead of the duplicated shelf-warmers like Orton and Mysterio, why not have 8 different figures - including 3 or 4 Flashbacks? I don't care honestly. What doesn't get released as Legends will get released as Flashbacks and we will pay less and get them faster. That's probably true of the already planned figures, but I don't think the future of flashbacks themselves is completely secure. |

It's all about money. If they make more than they spend, the line will continue. So just cause the previous releases haven't sold out yet doesn't automatically mean the line is a failure.
Truth is, none of us know how well they are selling compared to how much Mattel spent to make 'em. And anybody who pretends to know more is just guessing.

Mattel will want a certain percentage over what there spending to make it in there eyes worthwhile. Knowing Mattel it will be a large percentage.

You are right, I didn't even think about the licensing thing. MOTUC is their property. They don't have to share the money that they make with them. WWE probably takes a fair share of the $$$ from figure sales.

yeah , thats the mindset for the motu line... but they may have different ideas for the wwe line... so , let it play out and see where it goes... buy the figures you want.. pass on the ones you dont.. and lets see what matty does...

If this is going to end then I hope they at least go through with the Legends that we voted on and that they said they were going to give us. Primarily, because I want Liz and I believe she is the last one we are getting for the year. I am definitely buying DDP though so at least I will get him.
The problem with Legends, at least that I can see right now, is that each of us has a different Era or group of guys we want made. I'm into late 80's to current, but I know some people want just 80's or just Attitude Era and certain guys don't appeal to them at all. I have Slaughter, Rick Rude, Martel, Boss Man, etc., but I have no interest in Andre. I just think we are a fickle demographic that makes it hard to appeal to on a variety of different levels. Do I think more traditional versions of Sarge, Dusty, LOD, and Snuka would have sold better, yes I do, but I still couldn't say for certain that we wouldn't be in the same position.
We really have no idea how Mattel views the line right now or how they feel about the Rockers and Andre, but hopefully we find out more at TF. Based on what MOTU collectors say I am not really feeling all that good about the line.

The Legends line is doing bad because Jakks flooded the market with classic superstars. The would be buyers are happy with their classic superstars and won't start over.
