I just bought an iPhone 4S fully expecting that a new iPhone will be out this fall, only because I'm completely satisfied with the current hardware. Seriously it can't get a TON better, the camera is amazing and the memory is great. I can't think of anything else I'd like to have, so I'd say just get one.
I can only see them making it smaller and thinner with a longer-lasting battery. That doesn't really concern me.

Just buy a 4S. Has the new OS. Faster processor. 8MP camera. It's gonna be the best for your money.

Just get the 4S and sell it and buy the new one when it comes out with the money you gain. Apple products don't lose a lot of value.

I don't want to say to certainly buy one right now...because they very possibly could come out with something revolutionary...but I mean...the 4S is so good right now. The video quality is great, the memory is fine, I've experienced perfectly fine battery times...
I'd say if you really want one to spring for it. Maybe someone has more knowledge about it than me, I follow Apple pretty close and I've seen rumors that a fall release is likely but there's nothing saying that they have anything big planned for the next iPhone.
The 4S is great.

This is why I always hesitate to buy Apple products. Seems like right when I buy it a new and improved one comes out.

Because Apple switched things up with the 4S's launch, there's no clear way of knowing if the 5 will be out in June/July (like every other iPhone) or the fall like the 4S. If you're worried about buying the phone and then the new one coming out a couple months later, wait until the summer. Worst case scenario is you waited longer than you would have liked to, and if it's not out in June/July, you'll get to decide whether it's worth waiting a few more months or if you should just get the 4S.
The problem with Raito's plan is that it only really works if you're buying it unlocked, which I'm betting you're not. If you are, then Raito's plan is the best.

I would honestly wait for the new one. Even if you decide you don't want the 5 the 4s will also drop in price so you will be able to get it xheaper

I got a 4S towards the end of December and everyone was like "ohh ur stupid get wait for the 5" Why should I wait for a phone that doesn't exist instead of getting a real existing phone that is fantastic.

Then, if iPhone 5 is amazing, sell it. Don't just sell it, Gazelle it. Gazelle.com is an amazing site. When it comes out, Gazelle gives you pretty top dollar for your used electronics. It's an awesome site.

I'd wait for the next one to be announced. You never know what they're gonna do with it.
Then again, I've had the same phone since about 2008, so I wouldn't take my word on it.

Honestly, the iphone is a brilliant product and sure, one new one may come out but its not going to necessarily be something huge. The 4S has a damn fine camera and processor. They may change the outside shape, take siri a bit further and change the battery life but I dont see it anything that will render the 4S void. Even the 3GS and 4 arent bad options, they dont have siri but they are hardly out of date. Buying one now is a good option and its not like its going to be some terrible mistake if one does come out and even that is questionable.

Yes, but all of the top tier ($150+) phones are have far better specs than the iPhone and many of the lower tier Android phones do as well. Sorry, Android fanboy couldn't stop himself. Anyway, Apple usually sticks to a one year release cycle with the iPhone. If that's the case they won't come out with another one until Octoberish. I don't know what else they could add to it at this point. The top Android phones out there have 4.3" + screens and quad core processors. That's about the only difference between them hardware wise. I think a quad core processor in the iPhone 5 is a given. I don't know if Apple will jump to the 4.3" screen or not. They could always make the phone thinner I guess. That's another trend.

Another butthurt Android fanboy. Specs hardly mean anything. My Droid X had higher specs than the iPhone 4 but it was a piece of crap. Force closes. Crappier picture quality (yes megapixels don't mean everything). Android is a crap OS as are most of the apps in its unregulated app store (s). To the original OP, get a phucking 4S. You won't regret it. In the world of technology, the new thing is always around the corner. Don't get lost in it. Just enjoy what you have. (Not the Droid. Trash that bull$hit).
