Flair needed those extra 3 years IMO to really raise his stock to "The Man" of the NWA. When he debuted in 1991, "Hogan vs Flair" had been a dream match for years. Had he debuted in 1988, I don't think that the match would have been as big as it could have been in 1991/1992. Flair most likely would have been brought in to job to Savage and Hogan. He would have played a similar role to Dibiase, a top heel who never won the world title. I do not think Flair would have won any WWF Title's had he debuted in 1998. If anything, Vince probably would have made him IC Champ or kept him in the mid-card after putting over Savage and Flair.
