Ok hear me out, some of you will probably flame me for asking this but i'm just wondering what you all would do...
Lets say at night, someone rang your doorbell but you weren't expecting anyone, would you still answer it? I'm just asking because I was at my mom's the other night and the doorbell rang around 8:30pm. I looked out the window and there was this teenage girl out with some booklet. I'm thinking either she was selling something or wanting to see if anyone's home. This stuff gets me all nervous and yeah...
So what would you do?

She probably was selling something or looking for donations. I could understand why you just wouldn't bother answering because sometimes people doing that can be pushy.

Well I don't have a doorbell seeing as I live in the country. So if someone is at my house at night it's probably a burglary. XD

I don't answer the door during the day, so I'm definitely not answering at night. If I've ordered something over the internet and I'm expecting a package or a delivery I know I have to sign for, like my Yankees Season Tickets, I'll answer the door because it's something that I'm expecting and have ordered to be brought to my home. But if I haven't invited anybody over, ordered anything online or am expecting any deliveries....I don't answer the door. It's nothing I could possibly be interested in. Get off my lawn.

I usually look through the window in my door before opening, no matter the time of day.

Not wanting to make anyone any more nervous than they already may be, but one recurring trend that's becoming more & more popular in home invasions is using women (especially younger ones) to go to the door & say something like their car broke down. People are generally less suspicious of women, & hence they're more likely to open the door. That's when a small group of thugs rush in.

I ask who it is.
If for some reason it was anyone looking to do harm, id rather deny entrance and acknowledge being home rather then give them hope in an effective B&E.
Peepholes are effective too I guess; if its covered up, you probably dont want to answer it.

I would probably just not answer it because you never know who it is. I mean of course you should check your peep hole or look out the window although sneaky people could just be hiding and then your door is open and they could barge in like 'Great White' said!
In your case it was likely just a solicitor trying to get you to sign up for some magazines...
That crap happened to my aunt and it was annoying because even though she did reluctantly get a couple subscriptions apparently that wasn't enough and the girl kept asking for more... To make it even worse one of the magazines ended up being wrong so yeah it didn't happen to me however I would not entertain people selling crap like that door to door.

If I've ordered something (Food, items online that I'm expected) I'll open it. Generally though, if someone I know is coming over, we have cell phones in this day and age and they'll text me when they arrive and I can just open the door without them hitting the door bell.

If it was early like 830 I'd look out the window to try and see who it is. My dog goes crazy any time someone knocks on the door so it might have people think twice before pulling something fast.

I imagine the poor girl is still standing at his doorstep, since it seems triplehfan can't make any life decisions without first consulting WF

when i'm home in the suburbs, yeah I'll answer it. It's pretty safe and chances are it's either a friend of mine or someone for one of my 3 siblings.
Now if I'm at my apartment downtown in the city where it's just me, I'll likely take a peek outside to see who and is and I probably won't answer the door.

Definitely this right here. I would never answer the door late at night especially if I'm not expecting a item or person. Of all things I usually run up to my peer to see who's at my door first in my attic. Yeah just imagine ;p
