As most people predicted Chris Jericho was the mystery man behind the messages leading up to the 2nd of January but it was not as grand as people thought as he spent 10 minutes pointing at the crowd before walking off, these actions continued until a week before the royal rumble when he said “At the royal rumble it will be the end of the world as you know it.” Meanwhile CM Punk and Dolph Ziggler were feuding for the WWE championship while John Laurinitus kept a close eye and ended up making himself quest referee for their match at the Royal Rumble much to the displeasure of CM Punk. John Cena had huge problems as Kane continued to haunt him and try and make him “embrace the hate” which would eventually lead to a match between Cena and Kane at the royal rumble. Zack Ryder lost his United States title to Jack Swagger in a controversial way after being unfit to compete but going ahead with the match, he is still yet to have his rematch. Brodus Clay also made a return to the WWE as the funkasaurus dancing his way down to the ring but not to be underestimated as he hasn’t lost a match since his return.
Meanwhile on Smackdown Daniel Bryan was slowly turning into an arrogant self-centred human being and was dragging AJ down with him, when Kaitlyn confronted her AJ took it the wrong way and attacked Kaitlyn a match was set up between those two for the Royal Rumble. Big Show and Mark Henry wanted to tear Daniel Bryan to pieces but neither could win a number one contenders match so Teddy Long made a triple threat match for the Royal Rumble. Cody Rhodes took care of Booker T then started to turn his attention to his brother Goldust but there was no actual violence. The tag team division remained the same with the Usos climbing up the rankings. Drew McIntyre also made the jump to Smackdown after failing to get appearances on RAW, he was not in Teddy’s good book however when he did not win any of his matches in January. Santino Marella was also made Teddy Long’s assistant.
Royal Rumble Results
AJ defeated Kaitlyn after AJ made herself cry only to trick Kaitlyn and kick her in the head for the win
Falls Count Anywhere Match
Kane defeated John Cena after choke slamming him through the announce table.
WWE Championship Match
CM Punk defeated Dolph Ziggler after hitting the GTS on Ziggler; Laurinitus was a fair referee throughout.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Daniel Bryan defeated Big Show and Mark Henry after Big Show hit the WMD on Mark Henry Daniel Bryan ran in from behind and was able to take down the Big Show and pin a knocked out Mark Henry.
Royal Rumble Match
Sheamus won the Royal Rumble match after eliminating Chris Jericho last.
