me either but thats probably just because we're "Cena fans since 6 weeks ago" Certainly is a presumptuous thing to say for someone who hasn't even been here six weeks, uh? I'm not trying to force you to hate anything. This just happens to be how I see it and I am presenting my case to anyone who does find it to be ok on why I feel its not. If you dont agree....thats your opinion and you are entitled to it. But there was a lot of ridicule and a lot of people who thought I had a horn growing out of my head b/c of what I wrote.....which was very similar to this editorial. I hear ya Showstopper, but some on here seems to get offended that everyone didn't hate the smirking. Gimmick or not, it's a common thing for someone to do when another guy is acting tough and claiming you're scared of him. I know I've done it and I'm sure many others have. Seemed more authentic and not scripted. At least that's they way I viewed it. Like the article states....blurring of reality and pro wrestling isnt always the best way to handle wrestling storylines.

^^^
While that may be true this feud started with Cena calling out The Rock in the press years ago, and he calls him Dwayne all the time. This feud is spawned from reality so it only makes sense to go that route. Regardless what this article says.

So you forget your log in info, but you remember each members opinion on Cena? Very complex. Just making a generalization, stop being such a drama queen... You have to admit, as recently as 6 weeks-2 months ago, Cena was still public enemy #1 around here. Do you disagree? Pretty much everyone who 'hated' him then still hate hates him. Only, some people are just siding with Cena for now because they just 'hate' The Rock more. I put hate in quotations because frankly I think hate is a very strong word to use to describe someone who lives to entertain us. EDIT: Oh and I may as well just put my post from another thread about this, in here. It kind of comes down to how we interpret it. I interpret Cena smirking while The Rock lays in to him differently; I don't see it as John Cena, as a performer, ruining a promo by smirking and making the match looking meaningless. I see it as John Cena, the character, showing he doesn't feel this supposed fear that Rock talks about. Yes, that might mean John Cena, the character, doesn't take The Rock all that seriously, which (in kayfabe) seems damn foolish, because Rock kicks a whole lot of ass... but it's probably WWE's attempt at making Cena look truly strong. In comparison you used Chris Jericho and CM Punk, saying what if Jericho just laughed off CM Punk's comments. Well, I'd say the same; Jericho (the character) would clearly be showing that he doesn't take CM Punk's comments seriously. The key difference? In their storyline, WWE clearly want to make Jericho take CM Punk very, very seriously, because they want to portray CM Punk (being the Face) as the one who is right, and Jericho as the one who is acting defensive all the time. Do ya follow me? If people actually read this post and think about my point, rather than just scanning it and passing it off as me being a stupid Cena mark like usual, maybe you'll agree. Maybe not. But please actually think about my point. The only thing I got back from this post is 'Jericho is a cocky Heel so he's allowed to smirk, Cena isn't so he isn't.'

I tend to agree with the article because it asks the very important question of how is Rock vs Cena going to help WWE beyond April 1st. It sort of disregards the build, which I think is fair because the build has fallen flat for me whenever Cena and Rock have gotten into the ring together, but that isn't to say I haven't enjoyed each man's individual promo work so far. I just tend to believe that's a really important question.
I don't think this article is about anything other than Cena needs to change if the WWE is going to grow in popularity. Cena is the face of the WWE, or at least he has been for the better half of a decade. John Cena and WWE are like a long time relationship where both parties have just gotten so comfortable with what they are doing that they don't want to break routine imo. I think most people see Rock vs Cena as a way to elevate Cena, to break him from the mold, and so far I think that was happening. However, on Monday, when he was snickering and being Johnny Saturday morning cartoon, he sort of reverted right back to what a lot of people have grown tired of over the last 5 or 6 years.
I don't want to see John Cena booed unless he is a heel. I want John Cena to be in that 6th gear that he has, all the time. That gear he hits when he is in the ring with a guy his equal, like CM Punk from MITB through SummerSlam. Love Rock or hate him, Rock deserves Cena's intensity, his 6th gear, and I personally believe that we, as fans, all deserve that Cena, every single night.
I liked this article, I think it asked the right question without getting too wrapped up in the semantics of guy A vs guy B, and I am desperately hoping that everyone, Rock, Cena, and WWE, all come out of WrestleMania stronger than when they entered. Thanks for posting.

Cena's too wise for the Rock's loudmouth antics, that is one of the things that I believe makes this feud legit.

True, but you have to execute it properly and I dont see WWE doing that.
