Happend a long, long time ago. Think he lead them to their first titles, but also their first loss-of the titles. To the APA I believe.

I never really followed the Hardys, I knew they were a jobber team but I was watching Owen's Tribute Show and they came out with Hayes and I was like WHAT??

Yeah, it was back in 1999, I believe. Hayes wasn't with them too long. I think once they left Hayes, they aligned themselves with Gangrel and were apart of The Brood for a bit. And that didn't last long either and then they were managed by Terri Runnels for a bit as well.
I did, however, enjoy their WWF theme when they were with Hayes:

Didnt Hayes come out in an interview and tell them he saw the potential for them to be as great as the Birds? Boy did he swing and miss on that one.

It didn't last long and wasn't all that memorable. I'm sure Michael Hayes would say differently and try to put himself over but it was just meh...

It was there first major push in WWE, it didn't last that long, they turned on him and joined Gangrel to form the New Brood. To me it just seemed like Hayes riding there coattails for one last run.

Didnt Hayes come out in an interview and tell them he saw the potential for them to be as great as the Birds? Boy did he swing and miss on that one. Not really. They're an extremely successful tag team, and both have had pretty successful singles careers as well--especially Jeff, being a WWE Champion and two-time World Heavyweight Champion. Sure, their personal lives have had their moments, but to call someone saying they had potential a swing and a miss certainly isn't the case. And, man... seeing people not know that the Hardys were managed my Hayes (not taking a shot at anyone) really makes me feel old.

You don't like him, he was a drug addict, I get it. Between those ropes though, the guy is a star, a pretty damn big one at that imo. The Hardyz combined won like 25 or so titles in WWE alone. As for the Freebirds, I loved Terry Gordy, but I think Hayes is made out to be much better than he actually was just because he is a loud mouth. Hayes was average at best in the ring and I think he was really overshadowed by Jimmy Garvin, who I personally thought was way better than Hayes in WCCW and especially in the late days of the NWA. The Hardyz, Edge and Christian, and Team 3D were to the Attitude Era what the Freebirds and the Von Erich's were to the early to mid 80s.

Mad thing was Michael Hayes was only 40 years old when he managed the Hardyz, and only 37 when he was Dok Hendrix doing the Austin 3:16 interview.
Did he retire young due to injury?

Michael Hayes was managing in WCW in 1992 too. So he had to be 33 years old at around that time. He managed Bobby Eaton and Arn Anderson, and would occasionally tag with them in 6 man tag matches, like at Halloween Havoc 92.
My guess is that Michael just didn't wanna compete full time anymore and so he felt managing or being an announcer was better for him. If he gets the same pay as wrestling, why not do that stuff then, it's easier on your body.

If I remember right, the look you associate with the Hardys (the long arm bands, and the baggy cargo pants) started when Hayes started as their manager, right?

They were a successful WWE tag team....A tag team division that has been on life support since about 1993 and dead for the past 8-10 years. The only legit Tag Teams you can get out of that era are Hardys, E&C and Dudleys. You could probably squeeze the APA in as well if you like, but thats my problem. being one of the top teams in an almost dead division doesnt seem impressive. Its like winning Gold at the Special Olympics. Freebirds were revolutionary in their time and were one of the top and greatest tag teams in an era where tag team wrestling was stronger then ever. Hardys IMO, dont crack the top 10 in all time great Tag teams. Possibly not top 15 and would have to fight to get into the top 20

I'm in no way comparing them to the Freebirds--like you said, their times are completely different. With that in mind, you can't fault the Hardyz, E&C, or any other team from that era for the condition the tag division was in. So with that in mind, I'd still say they were a successful tag team. I don't know how they'd rank on my list of all-time tag team greats, but I'd still say they were successful, nonetheless.

A little off topic but i remember buying two BCA7 Edge's and painting one with a red shirt and black hair and the other with a blue shirt and leaving the hair and having some instant hardyz to play with
I also got an austin, painted an orange shirt on him and darkened his skin tone to have a Tazz.
Those were the days!

I completely forgot about that. This was when the Hardys were glorified jobbers--when Hayes managed them, they started winning. Very crazy!
