Episode 3: We Want Van Der Beek!

SCENE 001
- Evening Time
- Tyger and Hafiz’s Home

We fade into Tyger and Hafiz’s empty living room, quiet until the pattering of running feet break the silence. Tyger and Hafiz run in from the hallway, Hafiz carrying a stack of DVDs. Hafiz sets them on the coffee table infront of their recliners, as Tyger jumps over the table, catching a DVD case Hafiz throws at him in midair. He lands and scurries to the entertainment center, turning on the DVD player and pitting in a disc from the case, as Hafiz turns on the TV and sits down in his chair.

Hafiz Abdurehman: It’s time!

Justin Tyger: It’s time!

Tyger hops back over the coffee table, sitting in his chair as the DVD menu pops up, reading “Dawson’s Creek Season 1 Disc 1”.

Tyger and Hafiz: DAWSON’S CREEK MARATHON!

Tyger and Hafiz high five, as Hafiz clicks play on the remote, starting the first episode. Tyger and Hafiz stare intently at the screen, until frantic knocking at their front door breaks their concentration.

: GUYS! GUYS! IT’S MATTHEW! HELP! MY GOD THERE’S BLOOD EVERYWHERE! SOMEONE HELP! DEAR LORD! I’M GONNA DIE!

Tyger and Hafiz’s eyes grow wide as the exchange glances. Hafiz pauses the DVD as Tyger jumps over the coffee table again and runs to the door, flinging it open, revealing Matthew Anderson standing, holding his arm, although clean of any blood.

Justin Tyger: What…. I thought you said there was blood everywhere?!

Matthew Anderson: Alright, I might have exaggerated, but this hurts like a son of a bitch!

Anderson pushes his way into the house, bee lining to the refrigerator, grabbing a beer and glugging it down, as Tyger and Hafiz stare at each other in a confused amazement. Hafiz spins his chair around to face Anderson, looking for the words to say.

Hafiz Abdurehman: Uhh… So… Err… Why are you about to die?

Matthew Anderson: Oh, I think I broke my arm or something! I landed on it and it hurts so friggin bad!

Hafiz Abdurehman: What did you do?!

Anderson looks down sheepishly, stuttering.

Matthew Anderson: I was… I was uhh… Playin’ Naked Twister with a couple of girls from a bar…

Justin Tyger: …..Matthew…. What were you really doin’?

Matthew Anderson: It doesn’t matter, someone has to take me to the hospital!

Tyger and Hafiz look at each other, as Tyger sighs.

Justin Tyger: Alright… Let’s go.

Matthew Anderson: Alright, we can take my truck.

Anderson finishes off his beer and hurries out of the house, as Tyger slowly follows him. He stops at the doorway and looks back at Hafiz.

Justin Tyger: Hey! No watchin’ Dawson’s Creek until I get back!

Hafiz Abdurehman: Yeah, yeah. I’ll wait.

Tyger walks out of the house, closing the door behind him. Hafiz leans in his chair, looking out the window. After he sees Anderson’s truck start and leave, he leans back over and grins, as he raises the DVD remote and presses play, as we fade out.

SCENE 002
- Evening Time
- Inside Danielson's Car on the Road

We fade back in on a road as we see Danielson’s Nissan Leaf drive by. We cut inside, to find Danielson driving, with Kelly Hale in the passenger seat. Danielson’s nervousness is plastered on his face, as he stumbles on his words as he stops at a stop light.

Chris Danielson: I just… I don’t know about this!

Kelly Hale: Honey, it’s going to be ok, they’re just my parents! They’re not going to hate you!

Chris Danielson: You don’t know that! What if they do?! What if I screw up and say something stupid or fart or something?! Oh god!

Danielson smacks his head on the steering wheel as he groans, Kelly shaking her head.

Kelly Hale: They’re not going to hate you! You’re blowing this out of proportion! My parents aren’t evil! Green light.

Danielson lifts head and starts driving, anxiety still on his face. He turns onto a street, before Kelly points to a house.

Kelly Hale: There it is.

Danielson turns into the driveway, putting the car in park and shutting it off as Kelly pats him on the back.

Kelly Hale: You’re going to be alright! You got this!

Kelly gets out of the car, as Danielson stays, hands on the wheel, staring out in front of him. Kelly shakes her head and walks to the driver’s side, opening the door and pulling Danielson out. She holds his arm and walks him towards the door. The two barely make it to the porch, before the door swings open and Kelly’s parents hurry out.

Kelly’s Mom: Oh, hi Kelly! This must be Chris! Nice to meet you!

Chris Danielson: N-… Ni-… Nice to meet you too.

Kelly’s Father stares at Danielson, looking him up and down, as Danielson nervously stands, before Kelly’s Father sticks out his hand, which Danielson shakes.

Kelly’s Father: Nice to meet you, son.

Chris Danielson: Ni-… Nice to meet you too, sir.

Kelly’s Mom: Well, I hate to do this since you just got here, but we forgot some things at the store earlier that we need for tonight. So, we’re going to leave and go get them, we’ll be back in a few minutes!

Kelly’s Father: Make yourself at home, Kelly knows where she’s at.

The two hustle to their car and drive off, as Kelly and Danielson walk inside the house. Danielson finds and chair and collapses in it, taking a sigh of relief. A medium sized dog jumps in his lap, catching him off guard. He pets it as Kelly starts to talk.

Kelly Hale: See! That wasn’t so bad!

Chris Danielson: The day has only just started!

Kelly puts the dog on the floor and climbs into the chair, sitting on Danielson, staring him in the eyes.

Kelly Hale: Honey, you need to calm down.

Chris Danielson: I’m trying…

Kelly grins as she looks at Danielson, catching his attention.

Chris Danielson: …What?!

Kelly Hale: I know what will calm you down….

Chris Danielson: Wha….. Kelly! We can’t do that here! It’s your parent’s house!

Kelly Hale: It was my house at one point in time! Come on, they still have my room set up!

Chris Danielson: I don’t know about th-…

Kelly Hale: Come on! It’ll calm you down!

Kelly pulls Danielson out of the chair and, as we stay in the living room, pulls him by the arm down the hallway and into a room. We hear giggling from the room, the sound of clothes hitting the floor, and the bed squeaking. After a few moments, the dog, still in the living room, gets curious and walks down the hallway and into the room. After a few seconds, the dog runs out of the room, carrying Danielson’s pants and underwear in his mouth. He runs through the doggy door in the front door, dragging the pants outside with him as we fade out.

SCENE 003
- Evening Time
- Inside Anderson’s Truck

We fade in inside of Anderson’s truck, where Tyger sits driving Anderson to the hospital.

Matthew Anderson: Dammit this hurts.

Justin Tyger: Alright, I’m takin’ the time out of my day, I deserve to know, what were you really doin’?

Matthew Anderson: I… I told you! I was playin’ Naked Twister with girls from a bar!

Justin Tyger: Matthew…. What were you really doin’?!

Matthew Anderson: Naked Twister! Have you never played Naked Twister before?! It’s fun! I slipped, girl fell on me and she landed on my arm! That’s what happened!

Tyger shakes his head, grinning, knowing that Anderson isn’t telling the truth.

Matthew Anderson: You ain’t got to believe me, but it’s what happened! Hand to Kyle Busch that’s what happened! Anyway, there’s the hospital.

Tyger turns into the hospital parking lot and parks, before he and Anderson head towards the doors of the hospital. They walk in, walking across the waiting room up to the nurse’s station.

Nurse: How may I help you two?

Justin Tyger: Yeah, my friend over here, somethin’ happened to his arm and he thinks he broke it.

Matthew Anderson: Yeah, I think it’s gonna fall off!

Nurse: I’m sure it’s not going to fall off, sir. Here, you need to fill out these papers and bring them back.

Tyger picks up the clipboard and a pin before he and Anderson walk into the waiting room, sitting down and starting to work on the papers, as we fade out.

SCENE 004
- Evening Time
- Kelly’s Parents’ House

We fade in back at Kelly’s parents’ living room, where we see Kelly run out of the bedroom she and Danielson were in, looking around the living room frantically.

Kelly Hale: They’re not out here!

Danielson leans out of the room from around the door frame, look of distress on his face.

Chris Danielson: They have to be somewhere! They’re pants and underwear, they don’t run off!

Kelly Hale: I don’t see them!

Kelly keeps looking, as Danielson knocks his head against the door frame repeatedly.

Chris Danielson: I knew this was a bad idea…. You’re parents are gonna be home any minute and I’m balls hanging!

Kelly runs up to Danielson, grabbing him by the shoulders.

Kelly Hale: Honey, its fine! They have to be somewhere! Look in the bedroom again, I’ll look around here again, maybe we missed them.

Danielson goes back into the room, nosily searching, as Kelly rechecks the living room.

Kelly Hale: They’re pants! Where the hell could they be?!

Chris Danielson: If we were pants carelessly taken off before sex, where would we be?!

Kelly Hale: Apparently in Narnia, because they’re sure as hell not in here!

The two continue their search, as we fade out.

SCENE 005
- Evening Time
- The Hospital Waiting Room

We fade back to the hospital waiting room, where Tyger and Anderson are finishing the papers.

Justin Tyger: Alright, emergency contacts.

Matthew Anderson: uhh… I guess you and Hafiz.

Tyger writes on the paper, before clipping the pen onto the board.

Justin Tyger: Alright, I’ll go ta-..

Matthew Anderson: I’ll take it to her!

Anderson grabs the board and hustles to the nurse’s station handing the nurse the clipboard.

Matthew Anderson: Here you go!

Nurse: Ok, it might take a while to get to you, we have a lot of people in today.

Matthew Anderson: Well, that’s quite alright.

The nurse turns to her computer, typing on the keyboard as Anderson leans up against the desk with a smirk.

Matthew Anderson: So…. How you doin’?

Nurse: Way too busy for that right now.

Matthew Anderson: Aaaaaaaalllrright!

Anderson slides off the desk and walks back to Tyger, who is flipping through a magazine, sitting down next to him.

Justin Tyger: Strike out again?

Matthew Anderson: Yeeeeeap.

Justin Tyger: Why waste time on her, you got all them Naked Twister chicks waitin’ on you!

Matthew Anderson: Oh… Yeah, of course, just lookin’ to add to the crowd!

Tyger looks over at Anderson, chuckling and shaking his head before he goes back to his magazine and we fade out.

SCENE 006
- Evening Time
- Outside Kelly’s Parents’ House

We fade in outside of Kelly’s parents’ house, were a mail truck pulls up and stops. Mike Bockwinkel steps out, carrying a package. As he walks towards the house, he looks over at the car in the driveway.

Mike Bockwinkel: That looks like Chris’…. Such a gay car.

Mike shakes his head, before he stumbles on Danielson’s pants laying in the yard. He stands and stares down at them before he picks them up.

Mike Bockwinkel: Who the hell leaves their pants laying in the front yard?

Bockwinkel stares confused at the pants as he walks up to the door, knocking on it. After a few moments, Kelly swings the door open.

Mike Bockwinkel: I ha-… Oh, hey Kelly.

Kelly Hale: Hi Mike.

Mike Bockwinkel: I've got a package here….

He hands her the package as he raises the pants up.

Mike Bockwinkel: … And do you know anything about these? They were laying in the front ya-…

Kelly Hale: There they are!

Kelly grabs the pants and shuts the door in Bockwinkel’s face, who scoffs.

Mike Bockwinkel: …You’re welcome….

Bockwinkel shakes his head as he walks away, before we cut inside the house, were Kelly runs through the hallway with the pants.

Kelly Hale: Here they are!

She throws them in the room. Danielson can be heard putting them on, before he walks out into the hallway.

Chris Danielson: Where were they?!

Kelly Hale: They were outside on the yard!

Chris Danielson: How the he-…

As they talk, the dog walks up, wagging its tail, grabbing their attention. The two look down at him in disbelief.

Chris Danielson: …..That little bastard….

Kelly cracks up and starts laughing, as Danielson begins to laugh himself. The two walk into the living room and sit down on the couch.

Chris Danielson: We’re never doing that again. We would have been so screwed.

The two laugh again, as the front door unlocks and opens, before Kelly’s parents walk in.

Kelly’s Mom: We’re back! Oh, hey guys! We got everything, supper will be ready in just a little while.

As she hurries into the kitchen, Kelly’s Father sits down in his chair looking at the two.

Kelly’s Father: So, Chris, tell me about yourself.

As Danielson starts talking, we fade out.

SCENE 007
- Later That Night
- The Hospital Waiting Room

We fade to later that night at the hospital waiting room. Tyger and Anderson still sit, waiting for them doctors to get to Anderson. Tyger is leaned back with his magazine laid over his face, as Anderson sits, staring at his arm and holding it. He lets out an impatient breath of air before he stands up and walks over to the nurse’s station.

Matthew Anderson: Hey, we’ve been here forever and this is hurtin’ worse than it was. When am I gonna get looked at?!

Nurse: I’m sorry sir, but we’ve been really busy tonight, and people in more serious condition have been put in front of you.

Matthew Anderson: My arm is about to fall off! I think this is pretty serious!

Nurse: I’m sorry sir, but you’re just going to have to wait.

Matthew Anderson: But…

Tyger walks up beside Anderson, grabbing his shoulder.

Justin Tyger: Come on dude, gettin’ mad ain’t gonna fix anything. We just gotta wait.

As the two walk back to their seats, a doctor opens a door and walks out.

Doctor: Matthew Anderson?

Matthew Anderson: Oh thank Jesus, finally!

Tyger and Anderson walk to the doctor, who waves them inside of the room.

Matthew Anderson: Doctor, I think it’s gonna fall off…

The doctor follows them into the room, shutting the door, as we fade out.

SCENE 008
- Nighttime
- Outside Kelly’s Parents’ House

We fade back outside of Kelly’s parents’ house, where the group walk out onto the porch.

Kelly’s Mom: Well, thank ya’ll for coming out! It was fun!

Chris Danielson: Thank you for the supper.

Kelly’s Mom: No problem, ya’ll come back anytime, we always have food. It was nice to meet you!

Chris Danielson: Nice meeting you.

Danielson shakes her hand, before looking over at Kelly’s Father, shaking his hand.

Kelly’s Father: Well, I have to say, you ain’t half bad.

Chris Danielson: Thank you, sir.

They share their goodbyes, before Kelly and Danielson walk towards the car as the parents go back inside. We follow them inside the car, where Danielson lets a huge sigh of relief and collapses onto the steering wheel.

Kelly Hale: See?! I told you it wasn’t going to be bad!

Chris Danielson: Oh, you know, other than that part I was pantless!

Kelly Hale: Hey! I told you that would calm you down! I was right!

The two laugh as Danielson starts the car and backs out, as we fade out.

SCENE 009
- Later That Night
- The Hospital Waiting Room

We fade to even later that night inside of the hospital waiting room. The door Tyger and Anderson went inside opens back up, as they walk out. The two leave the hospital, and as they walk down the parking lot, Anderson stares down proudly at his cast.

Matthew Anderson: How cool is this? A camo cast!

Justin Tyger: Yeah, it’s fantastic. I swear if we were there another minute I was gonna explode.

The two make it to Anderson’s truck, as we follow them inside. Tyger starts the truck and drives off. As he drives, he looks over at Anderson.

Justin Tyger: Alright, I just sacrificed my day and most of my night for you, now I want you to tell me what you were doin’ when you broke your arm, and if you says Naked Twister I’m gonna break your other arm.

Matthew Anderson: Ok… I was… I… I was jumpin’ on my bed and fell off…

Tyger shakes his head, and can’t help laughing.

Justin Tyger: Didn’t you ever get taught not to do that?!

Matthew Anderson: I live on my own now! I make the rules, and the rules say I can jump on the bed!

Tyger keeps laughing, but his laughter stops when the truck stalls out. He limps to the side of the road, trying to turn the vehicle on, but failed.

Justin Tyger: ……Matthew….

Matthew Anderson: I don-….. ooooohhhh…

Justin Tyger: What does that oh mean?

Matthew Anderson: I was about out of gas... I meant to tell you but we was in there so long I forgot….

Tyger stares ahead of him, not moving, until he falls headfirst into the steering wheel.

Matthew Anderson: I got a gas can in the back…

Justin Tyger: And who is gonna go get some gas?

The two stare off, before they extend their hands, preparing for a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. They tap three times before Tyger throws paper and Anderson throws scissors. Tyger groans and smacks the steering wheel, before he gets out. He grabs the gas can from the truck bed and walks up to the door.

Justin Tyger: I’ll be back in a little bit, no jumpin' in your truck bed.

Tyger shuts the door and starts walking into the darkness, as Anderson gets comfortable.

Matthew Anderson: Damn, whatever it was that doctor gave to me is strong.

Anderson leans over and locks the driver’s side door, before locking his door and laying himself down against the glass of the door and falling asleep as we fade out.

SCENE 010
- Later That Night
- On the Side of the Road

We fade back in outside of the truck, as Tyger makes his way back to it. He opens the gas lid and pours the fuel into the truck. He throws the can into the bed and walks to the door, trying to open it, but finding it’s locked. He knocks on the glass to get Anderson’s attention, but notices he’s asleep. He walks over to Anderson’s side and starts beating on the glass, sending Anderson’s head bouncing off and on the glass, but still not waking him. Tyger sighs as he leans up on the side of the roof with his elbows and looks around. He throws up his hands before he beats on the glass in a last failed attempted to wake Anderson up as we fade out.

SCENE 011
- Early in the Morning
- On the Side of the Road

We fade in tight on Anderson, who slowly begins to wake up. He runs his eyes and stretches, as he begins to notice it’s now dusk outside.

Matthew Anderson: Where the hell is Tyger?

Anderson opens his door and gets out, looking around and is startled as he finds Tyger asleep on the roof, feet dangling off the driver’s side. Anderson shakes him, waking Tyger up. Tyger rolls over onto his stomach and stares at Anderson.

Matthew Anderson: Why you up there, man?

Justin Tyger: Oh…. I don’t know… Maybe because someone decided to lock all the doors and slip into a coma?

As Tyger slides off the roof, Anderson tries to plead his case as he gets inside and unlocks the door.

Matthew Anderson: Dude, whatever they gave me at the hospital knocked me out. I tr-…

Justin Tyger: Let’s just get me home, eh?

Tyger starts the truck and drives off, sending us back to black.

SCENE 012
- Morning
- Tyger and Hafiz’s Home

We fade in inside of Tyger and Hafiz’ home, where Hafiz still sits in his chair, watching Dawson’s Creek. His eyes are teary as he watches. The door swings open as Tyger and Anderson walk in. Hafiz looks away, rubbing his eyes.

Justin Tyger: Hey! I told you not to watch any ‘til I got back!

Tyger runs to the TV, as Anderson stares at Hafiz.

Matthew Anderson: Dude…. Are you… Are you cryin’?!

Hafiz sniffles and looks at the TV.

Hafiz Abdurehman: Nah man, I think I’m just sick.

Matthew Anderson: Naw dude, you’re cryin’!

Anderson laughs at Hafiz, looking at Tyger for approval, but finds Tyger staring misty eyed at the TV.

Justin Tyger: This… This is the episode Mitch dies…

Anderson stares at the two in disbelief.

Matthew Anderson: I…. I wonder about you two sometimes…

Anderson shakes his head before he walks towards the door, Tyger and Hafiz staring at the TV.

Matthew Anderson: I’m gonna go… Ya’ll… Ya’ll have fun with that.

Anderson leaves, as the episode on the TV comes to an end. Hafiz turns off the TV and stretches.

Hafiz Abdurehman: What took you guys so long?

Justin Tyger: You… You don’t even wanna know dude.

Hafiz Abdurehman: I’ll take your word for it. I’m gonna go to bed.

Hafiz stumbles to his room as Tyger walks to the refrigerator and grabs a Sun Drop. He sits down at the island in the kitchen and yawns before he takes a drink. Suddenly, rapid knocking on the back door interrupts his quiet drinking. He walks over to the door, opening it to find Kelly Hale running in, laughing.

Kelly Hale: Shut the door! Shut it!

Tyger tries to shut the door, but Danielson blocks it from shutting and fights his way in.

Chris Danielson: You cannot tell him what happened!

Justin Tyger: Tell me what?!

Kelly Hale: You know we went to e-…

Chris Danielson: Kelly! You ca-…

Tyger grabs Danielson by the pants and shirt, shoving him out the door, locking it behind him. He walks back to the island, sitting down and taking a drink.

Justin Tyger: Have a seat and tell me what young Merc did now.

Kelly laughs as she sits down and tells the previous day’s events as we fade out to black.
