So I just read this for the first time. I always remember the Starrcade debacle, but I had no idea it got so bad in 1998. Sting vs. the NWO was the biggest thing going and had so much buildup...for nothing. You see that's the thing......You don't tend to realise until its all laid out in front of you the way I did in the OP. Its truly shocking.

Imagine being in the crowd..... Were you there? Because if so that is awesome! No man I wasn't there, but I know peeps that were and the atmosphere that we see on dvds etc was ten times worse in person I believe. The folks live were stunned and had no idea what was going down. They went home that way too.

I remember watching it again when I got older and actually understood wrestling and it was laughable. Plus the count wasn't even a fast count. It looked like a normal count and I was pretty much confused lol

one thing that always kills me is just how out of shape Sting was. Jesus Christ! the guy wasn't in a match for nearly 16 months, and had a SEVERELY downgraded workload and travel schedule. he,literally, should've been in the best shape of his life, with all the time he had to train, lift weights, and get his cardio up. instead, he looked like he had little to no definition, and was blown up not even 10 minutes into the match! what did he do,sit on his ass when he wasn't on TV?

He had probably stopped caring at that point. If WCW clearly didn't care anymore, why should he?

This event here and how it was booked was the start of the slide. Sting had NO reason to turn up in this condition. as far as he knew when he turned up he was still to have an incredible back and forth with Hogan, repel the nWo with Harts help and make him tap. Even if he had got word weeks before that Hogan was planning to mess this up? He still should have been in match shape.

I thought they started going downhill singer than they did. My mistake.

Starrcade 1997 was meant to be the start of WCWs comeback against the all powerful nWo.....that's why most inside WCW and fans perceiving it at the time didn't mind the nWo being booked so strongly-Starrcade 1997 was meant to be the night WCW got its groove back and 1998 would be something different......but we all seen how that went. Sting-the only guy allowed to get traction against them was returning. Bret Hart was there as a face with a problem with heel bosses DDP,Steiners etc were heading for revenge instead WCW and Sting were weak as piss.....and Hart joined the nWo weeks later in a move that made no sense to anybody.

Hart screws Hogan out of the title at Starrcade, only to help him win it back 2 months later. and no explanation for this change is given.
