No guys, Hogan had nothing to do with it! He never used his creative control until 2000 with his title match against Jarrett! He said so himself on Monday Night War!

yeah I read it cover to cover several times before man. Nash was quite the piece of work. I've basically come to the conclusion that Nash is/was a lying, cocky piece of sh*t. Pretty much. He has contradicted himself so many times on shoots etc its just impossible to take him seriously. The way he makes himself out to have always been a WWF guy in 1996 and "didn't really want to leave" lately is just sickening. On his Outsiders shoot he says the moment he heard "Sting $$" from Hall he was gone. That's the version I believe.

Makes you wonder why Sting was so dedicated to WCW? I know he was the Franchise player of the company, and it was very much his brand.....until the ex-WWF guys started flooding in, and then all the guys that were already in WCW got crapped on and pushed aside.
Sting always said that he didn't trust how he would be used in WWF.....it's not like WCW was doing anything better with him? If he had come over when Jericho did, he could have become a WWE Legend as well, he could have gotten to the same level as The Rock, Steve Austin, and The Undertaker....that's where Chris Jericho is right now. And I don't mean to say that Sting is not on their level either, he is, and he did it WITHOUT the WWE....I'm just saying that in time, WWF would have treated him the way they treated their own guys. Booker T and Jericho came in and earned their spots.
I'm glad Sting is in WWE now....but man, it'll drive you crazy just thinking about what could have been.

it's a great topic to keep going back to for several reasons:
1) it shows, right out for everyone to see, how bad a situation giving a wrestler that much creative control can be to a company, and how it could ruin that company's biggest match of all time.
2) it shows the first moment when WCW truly started going south. once this bad decision was done, it was just a series of bad decision after bad decision for years to come.
3) it continues to live in wrestling folklore to this very day.
there are watershed moments in wrestling history, events, matches, and angles that transcend the moment, and become part of the living, breathing folklore of wrestling history.
some are great, and bring the sport to another level:
WrestleMania III The Mega Powers Explode Ric Flair's legacy Sting vs Flair in 1990 The Undertaker rises Austin 3:16 nWo Sting as the Crow Austin vs McMahon Emergence of the Rock etc.
some are terrible. the proverbial car-crashes you can't look away from. and they are a;so still talked about, for sheer idiocy,a perverted sense of pleasure, or just a tutorial of how not to do things:
Sgt. Slaughter the Iraqi Sympathizer Montreal Screw Job King Kong Bundy squashes midgets Katie Vick The Invasion Jericho as Undisputed Champ Brock Lesnar vs Goldberg Fingerpoke of Doom David Arquette Dungeon of Doom vs Hogan etc.
Starrcade 97 is in this category, something that will be talked about by wrestling fans forever. unfortunately for WCW, it falls under the latter category of wrestling immortality.

I think his issue was that by 2000 he was an NWA/WCW legend and did not want to have to rebuild himself. Booker T pretty much had his championships erased and had to rebuild himself in WWE and Jericho was entertaining but hardly used in WCW so he was able to walk away as a clean slate. Also add in that Sting hated the WWF product during the Attitude/Ruthless Aggression eras.

Mine and The Kevstaaa's thoughts on this dog crap (if you haven't seen it yet). I went back and watched it again after your podcast. I just can't fathom this crap, i honestly don't remember being that bad. How did WCW blow this, you can take a random fan of the street who could of booked this better, and i say that with a straight face. My theory? Hogan decided to call it in the ring with just the false finish and real finish predetermined. Hogan did unprofessional job and Sting was just waaayy to passive in the booking and enactment of the bout. Sting should of put his foot down in the booking of this bout, if he did things might have turned out different.

according to MANY neutral sources Starrcade's main event status was as follows.....
The original plan called for Sting and Hogan to have a great back and forth(like Nitro the night after and Superbrawl) and Hogan would wind up tapping in the Scorpion Deathlock.
HOWEVER
Hogan turned up the day of and was said to be unhappy. He felt that he would look weak with the way the match was laid out.....Bischoff reportedly tried to keep it "as is" and then the orange skinned one pulled out the creative control. Leaving WCW creative in a mess all day trying to rectify the situation and this bullsh*t was the best they could come up with.
Now...we all know the story about what happened.....Patrick and the count etc.
Some have also said that Sting was in TERRIBLE shape that day on muscle relaxers....and was in form to do f*ck all and Bischoff was furious with him over it.
Either way it was crap. But Sting needing help from Savage at Superbrawl nearly made me wretch.....Holy mother of f*ck it was atrocious.
