I haven't seen it and don't know a thing about it man!! Does anybody know the match listing even? Just looked it up, was gonna just copy and paste the match listing but my phone kept screwing something up. www.wrestlingdvdnews.com/match-listing-wwe-sting-ultimate-collection-dvd/69780/

Can't wait for the "Stings debut in 2014 and subsequent misuse in 2015." Thread in a few years.

Went back and read through this Joker.....quite depressing.
As for 2015-well, no surprise that Sting loses to HHH. It does nothing for him and if he loses to Undertaker now no one cares and he can retire.
Strong logic

Watched Starrcade 97 (well Hogan/Sting) while doing my 45 minutes of cardio yesterday.
Needless to say.....quite depressing as a kid being so excited for Sting in this match and going forward. But being 25 now, I have realized how much sting got crapped on during his run back.

Sting should of held that title till Starrcade 98, he should have went over Hogan strong and Hogan should have taken a sabbatical after the bout.

decided to watch Starrcade 97 today. hadn't been beaten or punished lately, so figured I was due for some pain. on the whole, this entire event stunk, and didn't live up to the hype.
Cruiserweight Champion Eddie Guerrero vs Dean Malenko - not a BAD match per se, but was mostly a ground-based, mat wrestling match, lacked the excitement and high-flying we were used to from the cruiserweights.
Kevin Nash vs The Giant - never takes place, as Nash is a no-show ( official line is he was injured, but I've heard for years he faked it because he was supposed to job to Wight). so Scott Hall comes out and talks for a bit, Giant comes out, talks for a bit, Hall attacks Wight, and gets beat up for a minute or so. the end.
Macho Man, Vincent, and Scott Norton vs The Steiner Brothers and Ray Traylor - yeah...um...yeah. just kinda there, meant nothing in the grand scheme of things, just another excuse to put some nWo guys vs WCW guys
Steve McMichael vs Bill Goldberg - not terrible, but felt like there were a lot of botches. notable only for being Goldberg's first Starrcade.
Chris Benoit vs Saturn - a jip, because it was supposed to be Raven vs Benoit, but he backed out. still, probably the actual best match on the show, and furthered the Raven-Benoit feud.
Lex Luger vs Buff Bagwell - a plodding affair. not good at all.
United States Champion Curt Henning vs DDP - not terrible, but not great either.
Larry Zbysko vs Eric Bischoff - heavily hyped since it was for control of Nitro. about what you'd expect from a retired wrestler turned announcer vs a promoter who never wrestled before. Bret Hart as the special referee took center stage over both competitors, and I assume the finish was a DQ win for Larry? they never really say, other than Zbysko somehow won.
World Champion Hollywood Hogan vs Sting - we've all talked about this before : creative control changing the match, a pilled-up out of shape Sting, a fast count that didn't happen, and a super-screwy finish all doomed this match.

I always felt that Bischoff tried to do with Starrcade 97 as to what Vince did with Wrestlemania in 1985. Make the under card not that great, so the main event seems much more than what it is. And it would have worked out that way for WCW too, if they would have had Sting dominate the match with Hogan and beat him. It was a year and a half of frustration that had to come out of Sting onto Hogan, and it was just the opposite.
I compare Sting vs. Hogan at Starrcade 97 to being with someone knew in a 'intimate' way - to put it in a PG way of not getting a warning bar or banned on here haha. But you are so excited to get at it and when you finally do it, the end result wasn't as exciting as you thought it was going to be. That is exactly what happened with Sting vs. Hogan. Everyone was stoked to finally see this match after a year and a half of build up and when it happened, we were left unsatisfied and asking, "was that it?? isn't there more??"

Yeah i enjoyed their Superbrawl match much more. But still man, they could just never let Sting win clean.
Its such a shame after all that time Sting was not even main eventing Uncensored. Its kind of like the Bam Bam vs. LT theory. Kevin Nash always said the title match goes on last. And I agree. If you want your title to feel prestigious you put it as your main event.

Starrcade 97 was the first live PPV I can recall watching. I remember having a lot of Sting merchandise. He was my favorite at the time. I remember just sitting thinking... "What happened?" during the ordeal. Even as an 8 year old I knew the finish made no sense. I still feel really cheated by that finish.

But now, I am still stoked Sting won, but its like why did they have to ruin the finish in that manner? I looked back at even Fall Brawl 1999 the other day, same thing. Luger comes in and hands Hogan the bat and there you go. Another screwy finish that just made Sting look weak.

Question.
The finish to this match was also used as a vehicle for Bret and leverage the screw job.
But what if screw job never happened? Or at least not used as part of this match. Has there been any discussion as to the first set of plans for this match?

Has there been any discussion as to the first set of plans for this match? from what most of us hear, the original booking had a back and forth encounter, with Sting taking over the last 1/3 of the match and Hogan submitting to the Scorpion Deathlock.
