Wasn't really sure whether to post this here or the video games section....
I just got an HD TV for my living room, and I'd like to play my PS3 on it via HDMI. Meanwhile in my room, I have an old SD TV.
So, what I'd like to know is if I'm going to have to change the video settings on my PS3 every time I switch TVs. I've heard that holding the power button for 5 secs. will reset the video settings, but I'm not sure if it will mess with the HDD.
Thanks in advance for any help on the matter.

I assume you're going from and HDMI Cable (with your HD TV) to a A/V cable with your SD tv? If so it should automatically change by its self. I dont recall having to change my setting on my tv when I did it. I looked under setting on the PS3 and didnt see it listed anywhere. PS3 probably just automatically detects input/output connections.

I read that when connecting the PS3 via HDMI, you have to go to the video settings and select the HDMI output to get the true picture. idk.... I'll mess with everything tomorrow I suppose.

Depending on the resolution your HDTV can output it should automatically go to the highest resoultion possible. I had the same problem you did, but after you've done the 5 second button press you should have no hassles. If you're worried about the HDD messing you then you shouldn't have too, the only issue I found with the HDD messing up is if you switch it from the main without shutting it down properly, the PS3 will then need to take time reconfiguring everything. Its kinda a scary process but most of the time for myself I didn't end up losing anything, if it's happened on your PS3 you may have to look into getting a replacement HDD, but they're the cheap and easy to find.

My HDD has gone through the recovery process twice now. Once via a blown circuit, and once from a faulty outlet at a friends house. Scary stuff, lol.
So, from what I can understand - When switching back to SD from HD, power down the console as I usually would; and hold the power button down when I turn it on the next time? And that should revert the video back to SD?

Alright, problem solved.
The PS3 automatically detects the HDMI cable and asks if you want to adjust the video settings upon start-up.
And holding the power button down reset the video settings back to SD. The only side affect was that my themes were set to default.
