Random thought while I was at work today. I haven't collected figures in years and years, but this thought came up. My mom bought this for me on a Florida vacation when I was 12 years old. We found it at the store (maybe it was a K Mart?) and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. For those who are unaware, there was no roof on the Cell at all. It was just a steel cage. The whole Cell roof and breakaway spot were no even a part of the product. To me, that was criminal. I was a shattered 12 year old boy when I found out I was duped like that. whoever put that image on the box. Here's a shot I just found of the box itself. Bullsh*t. That's my contribution to this board.

Wow that'd suck! Maybe it was chinese new year?
The proto image looks sick! Too bad it didn't turn out that way. But 10 bucks for the steel cage isn't bad either.

They couldn't even legally do that, could they? It's a totally different product - the cage itself even had little side ledges not seen in the proto, so it's not like it was just missing the roof - they knowingly changed it. I remember they re-released it later on with the proper image. There's even a rare black cage (nWo box) that I can't for the life of me find any images of.
I remember people going apes*** about it back on AFR. I was still interested since it was only $10, and for what it is, it's a decent cage. But yeah, that was really shady business right there.

If I remember correctly, wasn't there some kind of safety/parts issue with the roof before it came out, or was that just a rumor? Either way, I remember knowing the roof wasn't in there when I bought the cage. That said, I was a big fan of that cage, used it for years.

XZEROX, I questioned the same thing when I was 12, "How can they do this? It shows the product, you buy the product, and it's not what they showed it to be. This can't be legal." them. Still. To this day that pisses me off.

I remember seeing this and being so excited. I saved up all my money (i did odd jobs for people in my neighborhood to get money for wrestling figures). I was so pissed when i got home and there was no roof. I took it back to TRU.

Perhaps the weight of Foley's fat ass on it would cause it to come apart, sending him through and knocking him silly? I don't like the prototype image, to be honest. It's a cage...with a roof...which the actual Cell was not. The cage they did put out, however, was the most-accurate to the real deal.

I remember 2 of my mates got it & it was just the cage, ridiculous. Although it was a good cage: not the point.
On a similar note: remember the SD real sounds arena? the proto looked so awesome! big ring, realistic turnbuckles & corner steps, I had wanted it from January 2001 & got it for my birthday that March, I remember opening & had to hide my absolute disappointment that the ring was tiny. I eventually got to love it though.

Sure do!
Because the first one I sold on eBay, the person left me a very angry negative feedback in all capital letters calling me "scammer".
Completely dumbfounded, I opened up another one and to my shock they were actually telling the truth.
Only it was Jakks that scammed me, them and everyone else.
Another item that comes to mind is the Target exclusive Mick Foley barbed wire ring... with no barbed wire.

Not to mention an announcer's table. Great memories.

The Foley was unpainted on the back and it just had regular ropes - sucked. And I still bought it.

I got burned by this as well. Very disappointing as I waited a long time to open it and when I finally did, it was too late to return it. Wasn't a bad cage, just totally not what I had expected.

I remember it very well, my friend bought it and to our surprise also it had no roof. Although we weren't to upset about it, we just never understood why it didn't come with the roof attachment.

Id it had of came with the roof (keeping in mind its based of hell in a cell) it would if been inaccurate still. I agree its false advertising, it would of been better if the proto had a roof but the box image didnt and people wouldnt be tricked.

I actually made a roof for this cage back in the day, used two pieces of th terrible Attitude Ring cage tied together.

I knew exactuly what you were talking about just from the description. I too remember this. It was such a bad deal as a cell. But as a cage it was pretty damn awesome.
