just a fun little topic to discuss on a lazy sunday evening lol.
are you guys into "martial arts" action movies, and if so what is your preference ? i put MA between "" because not every one of them movies actually involve martial arts in the traditional sense, some movies are just rough enough or feature martial artists like jcvd or norris etc so they are included in my sense of martial arts movies ,i myself still have a lot of love for the old school american movies with classic icons like Van damme, seagal and chuck norris and the likes....infact in recent years i've started to build dvd collections with all their movies just because it's cool to be able you say you own "every goddamn jcvd movie", i guess if your born in the 80's like me it's almost an essential thing on your "to do in life" list, watch and buy them all, and proudly display them on a shelf ;D
i admit a lot of those movies are cheesy but i can't stop loving them, the movies as well the actors themselfs, have a certain charm about them that has never been replicated in modern times imo. i'm the perfect audience for a movie like expendables, it was like a gift from god for an old school action flick enthousiast like me.
jcvd, shwarzenegger, stallone....man, when those guys ruled the action movie landscape, it sure was something else ! modern action flicks are ok but i still haven't found a new favoite actor to get into, jason statham is pretty good, and i like him a lot but even he can't hold a candle to the macho madness that was the arnold, stallone, jcvd era...
then theres the asian flicks, i like bruce lee and jackie chan, own most of their mvoies too, and some lesser known (in general) asian actors and movies out there are pretty great too, i've jumped blindly into some of those movies even tho i never heard of them and ended up loving them a lot but on the other hand sometimes asian stuff can't drag me in the way they should...i don't know what it is, maybe the fact that those languages can sometimes be more a hinder than a benefit, maybe it's because those asian dudes look so similar a lot of times, sure bruce lee had an iconic stature and facial expression but a lot of the time when watching asian stuff i'm like...wait...who's who again, ting ? tjang? pang ? ok...i get it..no wait who is he again ? the few that managed to get well know across the border like jet li and to an extent, tony jaa, are reckognizable, but i'm talking all them others...these days i can't seem to walk into a dvd store without noticing like 5 diffrent new asian flicks new on dvd on the shelves and they all look great, and the time i gave in and bought them i ended up liking them but i tell ya, a lot of tose actors might as well walk right by me on the street tomorrow without me ever reckognizing them and that's a shame.
The action itself is a lot of times a million times better in asian martial arts movies which is the main reason i keep watching them frequently but they lack the charm of a good old american machismo movie like bloodsport or kickboxer or hell, even lesser know movies like undisputed 2 & 3.
Anyway i was just curious if there are any other action buffs on here and what they prefer to watch, this could get intresting
