I went to Gamestop today for the first time in probably a year or more, and since they had a B2G1 sale on PS2 games, I decided to pick up a ton of games (63, to be exact). I go to the checkout, and the guy asked me if I had a Powerup Rewards card. I said no, so he asked me if I'd like one, and told me it was free. Of course I said yes, and got on with checking out (which understandably took quite a long time). I paid, left, and as we were driving home I realized that the total seemed a little high, so I look at the receipt: $14.99 for a digital subscription to Game Informer/Powerup Rewards Pro card. The cashier tacked it on without saying even a single word about it. And, on top of that, the jackass forgot to give me the Powerup Rewards Pro card. So, he just basically stole money from me, and then doesn't even give me the damn card that he stole it for. Unbelievable.
To turn this venting into a discussion; anybody else have any Gamestop horror stories?

I remember they once offered me $0.05 for a copy of Madden that they sold used in the store for $15.

Yeah, the offers they give for trade-ins are almost always laughable, though I would understand why they'd offer a small amount for a Madden game...they usually sit there for years, and steadily drop down to $0.99. But still, $0.05 is preposterous.

Did you go back and adress the problem? Nope, not yet, and I'm not entirely sure I'm going to. After researching it a bit more, I understand now that you get 10% off only with the Pro membership, and not the free version. Now, they may have legitimately felt that I'd end up getting the card for free since I had so many games, but it in actuality, it ended up costing me about $7 more, since I saved about $8. If they had simply explained all of that to me, I probably would have gone ahead and gotten it anyway, but it's just the way that they failed to mention the subscription and fee attached, and flat out told me it was free, that rubs me the wrong way. I'll probably at least go back soon to try to get the card that they didn't give me.

I've had traditionally fine experiences at my local Gamestop, other Gamestops not so much, but the one I go to when I go to one is pretty good. The only time I ever really got irritated was when I bought Xenoblade on launch day that the dude was giving me the third degree asking why I didn't pre order it. Don't harass me about pre-orders when I HAVE THE GAME IN MY HAND.

I just hate when they want to give me their philosophy on video games every time I'm up there.
Also, if I want to pre-order something...I WILL LET YOU KNOW!
I don't need you to tell me the entire list of games being released for the next 6 months everytime I walk in the store to get something.

That sucks and ain't right, but 63 games? 63? How much did that cost?
And I avoid Gamestop like the plague unless I can't get the game I want anywhere else. There is a sleaziness that I just want to avoid.

There is a sleaziness that I just want to avoid. It ended up costing me a little under $100...almost all of them were only $1-$3. Just wanted to stock up on PS2 games before they phase them out at Gamestop, and with the B2G1 sale, it seemed like as good of a time as any.

I don't need you to tell me the entire list of games being released for the next 6 months everytime I walk in the store to get something. This is really the one thing I hate dealing with whenever I'm at the store. Overall, I give GS a ton of business, and haven't had many issues with their products. But those pre-order haggles are a pain in the ass. I really hate the tone they have when trying to sell the pre-order. Some of them offer the game as if it's a given that I'm a huge fan of it, and clearly should jump at the opportunity to pre-order so I don't "miss out". I constantly get the whole "Really? Are ya sure? It's just $5 man, and you're guaranteed a copy." I remember a couple of years ago, I bought two games just before the launch of one of the Modern Warfare games (I think part 2). The guy went into this mini-rant, trying to convince me that COD would be sold out everywhere, and I absolutely needed to pre-order it. Mind you, I never once said I was interested in COD at all. I understand it's part of their job, and that's fine. But it's aggravating that you almost have to negotiate your way out of the store sometimes.

I don't go to Gamestop often so I never really had an issue with them.
My brother did end up selling some games to them and for some good games they gave him like $2-5 and to me it was just crazy.
I'd rather just give them to my cousin since it would be new to him..

I don't have a problem with Gamestop.
If I don't like their trade in price, I don't trade it in. When they ask me to pre-order, I just say no thanks I don't pre-order any games without financial incentive to do so. It's not really that big a deal to me. Sure, that cashier seemed to screw you over, that could happen at any store. But not going back to address the situation shows it really isn't that big of a deal to you either.

The only thing i don't like like others have said is them trying to get pre-orders all the time. I just recently pre-ordered the special edition of Max Payne 3 for $99.99. I paid it off fully a few days before release, and they wanted to know if i also wanted to go ahead and pre-order Diablo 3, which came out the same day as Max Payne. So I'm like no thanks, and they did the whole GS: "Are you sure man? Its going to be epic have you played 1 and 2? Me:"No i haven't that's not really my type of game" GS: "Ahhh really you'd love it its a great game" Me: "(just trying to be nice) Maybe I'll check it out the next time i come in GS: Ok man, lets get your total here. $108.50 for the special edition Max Payne 3 Me: Ok let me get my power up card Gs: And your sure you don't want to pre-order Diablo 3? Me:

Not getting a card isn't a big deal. They'll be able to look you up in their system anyway. Not being told of the charge is a big deal, but apparently not to you since you didn't go back to the store to complain.

It's all about supply and demand. Why pay someone a ton of money for an older good game if there isn't the market for it? Yeah, they don't give you a great price, but it is what it is.

That's why I call first before I go there, to see what they would give me. If I don't like it, I either find another place in town to sell it or I sell it online. Simple as that.
