No one bothers me at gamestop and I'm not stupid enough to trade stuff in so I'm cool with them.

The only things that have irritated me at EBGames/Gamestop is a few of the ones I went to had at least 3 people working there but only one was minding the cash who took their oh so sweet as time to finally ring everything up. I also hate being asked if I want the game "damage guarantee", I always say no because I've had maybe 2 games crap out on me, and that was only during the PS1 days. Yet they try and make me feel guilty for not doing it as if they know I go home and run my games through a meat grinder because I play Frisbee with my 360 while it's running.

I don't play Call of Duty or any yearly sports games for the most part so they always look at me like a blasphemer when I say no to their pre-order schemes. I stick to Best Buy. It's virtually the same program, but I never have to deal with those blobs that occupy my local Gamestop.

Not getting a card isn't a big deal. They'll be able to look you up in their system anyway. Not being told of the charge is a big deal, but apparently not to you since you didn't go back to the store to complain. Believe me, I had all intentions of going back to complain, but now that I understand how the Powerup Rewards cards work, I actually want the Pro version. So, to me this doesn't seem like a battle worth fighting at this point. I mean, as I said, it pisses me off that they completely failed to mention the charge, but what can I really do at this point? I'm not going to drive 12 miles just to complain to some cashier about it, only to reveal that i actually don't want a refund for the card, but instead want to keep it. I'd look like a lunatic.

I've never really had a problem with Gamestop, but there Used prices are crazy. Plus, when you trade stuff in they offer you little to nothing.

Yeah I will usually get this...
"That NEW Madden is coming out in November! You better pre-order! They always go fast!"
or
"Call of Duty in November! Pre-order now and you get a free limited edition poster, we only have 50 and then they're gone, plus you get a downloadable pass to get songs from the soundtrack."
Meanwhile, I'm just trying to get out of there and pay for my $10 used game.

I try to avoid Gamestop at all costs. I hate that you generally can't find sealed copies of games unless they're less than a few months old. I also dislike that most of the workers and patrons are annoying elitist morons.

I've only ever had two issues there:
1. I hate that they're allowed to sell games as new that have been opened and used in some way. I bought Super Mario 3D Land for my 3DS and the Club Nintendo code was used and there was a save file present on the game. That shouldn't happen if I'm paying full-price.
2. I dislike that when I just want to buy a game I have to wait for them to go through and name all of these great games to preorder. The other day, they had a marathon of games... "Alright that's gonna be $63.74, now did you wanna preorder anything coming up soon or this fall? We've got Black Ops 2 ready to be preordered." "How about Metal Gear Solid HD for the Vita?" "Alright well what about Pokemon Conquest?" "Okay, well there's also-" at that point I just say, "No I'm reserving my money for other things." Though, I will buy MGSHD, I didn't wanna preorder it. I see no reason in doing so when it's certainly gonna be in stock on launch day, no one else has a Vita around here.

How dare they DO THEIR JOB!? I know most (if not all) of you are intelligent to know that they are told to do their best to get pre-orders. Same thing at FYE.
The people behind the counter are just doing what they're told in a tough to work for business. I know the guys at the Game Crazy next to my Hollywood Video would get bitched at by their DSMs and RSMs, if they didn't get X amount of pre-orders a day/week.

I know that it's their job, and that's exactly what I don't appreciate, their job. I'm sure the employees are great people but I don't like their business practices. I work in retail as well, and it's a part of my job to ask if people want to apply for a credit card for donate to a charity...do I agree with it? That doesn't matter when their name is in the corner of my paycheck. I do know that as a customer I'm ing annoyed by their approaches.

This topic isn't titled "Awful GameStop EMPLOYEES". It's the companies fault. We are acknowledging that...

I've never had a problem with GS, but I don't go there too often. Maybe twice a year. I understand where the employees are coming from with their pre- orders. I worked at a blockbuster for a long time & we had pre- order sales goals we were suppose to hit. If we did, great. If not, prepare for a s***storm. I had co-workers fired over not making enough pre-sales. Now for us, were more rental base. For them, its straight sales. It probably matters more for them. If you haven't ever had a job that is more sales-based, you might not understand. But I will say I've seen people who can't take no for an answer. They are either desperate for a sale, or too stupid to just move on & realize they are pushing future business away.

This. The preorder thing is one issue I have with them, and I always get this negative vibe when I go there...I don't know. I just get the sense that the place is a rip-off...which it is when you can usually get the exact same thing off of Amazon for example, far cheaper. I do most of my shopping off Amazon but if I have to for whatever reason I'll go to Best Buy or even Target and Wal-Mart before I go to gamestop. I used to love going there but I just can't stand it anymore.

Mine is fine- very little hassling, a few no thank yous and I'm out. I don't go often to be fair, but I've had nice experiences.
Sucks that they auto-signed you up for the digital version of GI. Maybe I'm just a traditionalist in that regard, but if I can get a physical copy of something for the same price as the digital, I'm going to chose the physical every time. I mean - nobody reads a magazine anymore to get the most up-to-date info on something. It's to have the physical thing to page through.

My friends all download music and tell me I waste my money buying CDs anymore. Okay fine you go download something, I'll stick to my physical albums I can hold and look at.

I have no problems with gamestop. In fact, the guys working there have helped me pick games, helped recommend games and never cheated me. I know it's off topic, but I hate Play N' Trade. They act like they don't even want to be at the store. They have like a 10th of the amount of what a normal game store should have in games. They have the new stuff, at higher prices then it should be,and there retro stuff is crappy. There selection never changes. A YARD SALE HAS MORE VARIETY THEN THEM. I see the same lame games on the shelf all the time. I remember that i once went there, and i had a good haul of about 10 games that i couldn't wait to get home with. After picking things out, the guy says that they are doing inventory. Meaning that they aren't selling anything. I put it all back, and go to the gamestop down the street. If you need anything specific, like a memory card, a cable or anything, they're ALWAYS out! I recently invested into a dreamcast. I have it now, but when i was looking to buy, i had to go online cause they never had it. They say "They come next week". for 3 weeks, i kept coming back, and nothing was there. When Media Play was close to where i live, me and my dad just had fun there, reading, and playing games for free. Of course, we bought stuff too but, anyway, these bastards make people PAY TO PLAY THE GAMES. I realize now, that they are only still a business because of people trading in games. Games that make up their selection. Now here's a comment similar to the topic starter story. I came in to the store, and only bought a players guide(last thing i bought there ever), and the guy wanted me to give all my info for a saving card called the insiders card. I looked at some games, and it had the insiders price under the normal price. I feel cheated, because with the card, i get 70 cent off the games. bungholes.

I have no use in reading a digital video game magazine...I can just go to any number of gaming blogs to get far more up to date info if I really want to. I e-mailed Game Informer the other night to switch to print, but I still haven't heard anything back.

why would anyone pre-order a game nowadays anyway? just go to a store the day of release and pick it up....it's not like games ever sell out anymore.
stores pushing for pre-orders is obnoxious. it's like they are so desperate for your business they just want your money months BEFORE they even get the product. pre-ordering is stupid.
