I have to agree, although I doubt we would've won the whole thing. At the very least we would've played better.
At least this will improve appreciation of Pirlo over here, hes pretty underrated I think because hes stuck in Serie A as its declined in quality.

Mixed emotions. I thought Hart and our defence were fantastic. Terry and Lescott were just phenomenal. Gerrard, Parker and Carroll also did great imo, and put in their best. But Rooney, Young, Welbeck, and Milner were really dire. Maybe it's because of our playing style but I don't know. Just expected a lot more from them.

Of all the ways to get knocked out, ffs. Would have rather we had just lost in normal time by the 2/3-0 margin we deserved to (and should have) lost by. Thought we were utter shite again. Great in the first half, but after that just seemed like we had no interest in winning the game. Abate, Montolivo and Pirlo were  ing class for Italy, and THAT penalty. Incredible. |

Pirlo had a masterclass, was painfully brilliant to watch.
After all their missed chances and the offside goal I thought for sure we'd nick it and then with the first penalty miss I was full of hope and optimism. Amazing how a room full of noisy fans can go so quiet.

For christ sake will people stop going on about the penalty, if Hart hadn't dived so early he would have stopped it with ease and Pirlo would have been rightly criticized. Great player, awful penalty.

Game over for us. England play excellent at first half. Against italy is not easy game, obvious but still. At 2nd half, England play very poor. Extra time as well. I told my mate if we go to penalty, we're done. He willing not believe me and other mates, but it did.
England need to work on penalty, imo. When did England win the match via penalties? Penalty is obvious England's weakness point.
But ah well, at end of the day, well done to Italy for through to Semi-Final on Thursday to against Germany. I hope ti see Italy wins, but I think Germany will win to through to final on Saturday.
Well done to our boys, I think they all did well, especially to Joe Hart. I think he is an excellent goalkeeper. Roy Hodgson impressed me. I didn't expect England play that well, but as leats we got England born manager now lol.

Hodgson said it best after the game. You can practice penalties but you can't replicate the tired legs and the pressure at the end of the game. No amount of practicing will ensure you will win a shootout as it's all down to luck. The only variable you can study is the goalkeeper reviewing where a player is most likely to kick the ball. Or you can watch "naughty videos" like Buffon and still win.

I don't belong to UK neither to Italy, and i can say Italy was better yesterday, and they proved it at the end. Buffon is just a classic goalkeeper, if there was a HOF i think he deserves to be there.

For me I'm more angry than gutted and upset. I understand playing 'the Chelsea way' against Germany or Spain, as they are a mile ahead of us on the ball, but to sit back for 120 minutes and play for penalties against Italy was a joke. Should of held out for 90 then gone for it in Extra time. We never once took there full backs down the line and got at them, had the wrong players for the Counter, and had no pace about us. It was awful to see us play the way we did in that last half an hour. I wasn't expecting us to go further than the Quarters, but when you get a draw against an Italian side who are beatable if you take the game to them, I expected us to give it a bit of a go.
