I dont hate cops, I hate when they dont do their job right. I live in a small town and the cops abuse their power to get what they want. Ive known these cops for years, one just got on the force and hes younger than me. I know their family and backgrounds, They pull over and with people smoking (Grass) and take it for themselves. They seek out me and my friend because we were rowdy kids back in the day, but now we work for a living, we respect the law but they still follow us. So again i respect them when they are doing their job, but the abuse of power by most cops in the world is insane

I have no problems with cops, which is probably a result of my lack of run ins with the law. I do hate, however, how they automatically assume than my friends and I are smoking pot or doing something stupid whenever we're in a group.

Some cops suck and some cops don't, it's as simple as that. It's really no more in depth than that. Like other jobs some guys are good at it and some aren't. The only difference being a "bad cop" can make your life much worse than some other guy that isn't good at his job. I've met good police officers that their main goal isn't to go out and right 10,000 tickets a day to every car going 1 mph over the speed limit. And personally I think in most cases that being the "good guy" is the best way to go about things. If you go into a situation flashing your badge around and acting like the king in the castle things are probably jsut going to get worse from there. But of course there are exceptions where that may be necessary but 9 times out of 10 you can easily defuse the situation without having to threaten anyone. And on the other hand I have met cops that go around flexing their weight at every chance they get just because they can. We've got this one guy around here that no one has a bad word about. Then there's another guy that I'm not sure anyone likes. He is one of those guys that goes around flexing his muscle when it isn't necessary. He once accused me of drinking and driving because at a public park with tons of people someone threw empty beer cans under my car. I don't even drink and he searched my car and found nothing that would suggest so and then he wouldn't give me any kind of test. He just threatened to throw me in jail and even offered to "drag me down there" if he had to(the park is right by the police station). He's one of those guys that you get them out of their uniform without their taser or their gun and they wouldn't be 1/4 as brave as they are once they get their almighty tool belt on. But like I said and other's have said, there are good cops and there are bad cops. Do I respect them? Of course I do for the most part. Do I like them all? No and I don't feel like I should have to just because he puts his life on the line.

It's the bunghole cops who spoil the reputation of all other cops. As well as paranoid trouble makers who just hate cops by nature cause they have something to hide.
I'd never generalise a whole group, If a cop wronged me then I'd have a problem with that person, not the police as a whole.

I fully agree with the sentiment about Cops not getting the respect they deserve. People love to call cops "lazy" and crap like that, not realizing the amount of sheer work that goes into the daily operations of an officer. They're all pigs and jerks until your husband is beating your face in and you need help, or your little brother gets shot and you need someone to investigate. What I find hilarious are the people who actually think that it'd be better with NO cops around at all. Oh, and you think Cops have to deal with a lack of respect, try being a Correctional Officer. The amount of labeling and disrespect we receive from the general public is astounding. I don't know where you are from but in NJ corrections especially county is a joke. They make insane amounts of money, insanely good benefits and all that. Now I don't hate them or anything else but they have it made. A joke because they make a decent living? Or do you actually have something legit to base that on? County Corrections have it harder in some ways. They have to deal with whatever comes off the streets and whatever those people might be high on. It can be a nasty, dirty, dangerous job. Definitely shouldn't be called a joke unless you're in one of those towns with a populous of 1,000 and there's one Sheriff.

Just because you said "NWA crap"
I live in a small town so the cops do abuse their power. And on top of that all they do is sit around and eat.

Hating a group of people for the actions of a few (when compared to the entire majority) makes you a bigot, plain and simple.
This, is no different.

I've had more good experiences than bad. I have a few cops in my family. Have I seen them go into bunghole mode? Yes, but there's a reason. My ex-girlfriend has several in her family. Only one of them was an absolute jerk, but I try to give the guy the benefit of the doubt because he was going through a pretty bad divorce & his wife was trying to take everything. Everyone else was amazing. We all have bad days & sometimes it gets taken out on the wrong people. I know some people have felt my wrath at my job when they had no reason to. Unless you are around these people on a regular basis, you don't really know if they are good people or abusing their power.

I agree with OP 100%.
I have a lot of family and friends who are in law enforcement, YES, there are a few rotten apples, for every decent, upstanding cop, there is probably 2 rotten ones; but that's no reason to HATE the police force entirely.
If I have a crapty waitress at an Applebees, I'm not going to hate Applebees as a company because of it. Law enforcement should be viewed the same way.

Like most other people, I have a problem with the cops who clearly are trying to abuse their power. Like years ago, when my mother's ex-boyfriend got stopped after dropping off a friend with me inside. It was clearly because he was white and driving in a black neighborhood because his girlfriend and her family was black. We clearly didn't break the law, because who handcuffs the driver and searches the car while not even stating probable cause to do so? Those type of cops, I hate with a passion, not only because they're dicks, but because they make cops who actually do their job look just as scummy as the bad cops.

A lot of things that need to be addressed here:
Sadly, people only seem to talk about police officers when they get in trouble or feel mistreated by one. How often do you hear about the police officer who gave someone a break on a speeding ticket? Or the police officer who came to your house at 3am to tell you a family member passed away? Sadly, when a police officer does something right he or she is "just doing their job" but when they do something you don't like they are automatically "pigs".
Also, people don't seem to tell the whole story. A lot of people hate police officers simply because they got in trouble and the police did their job by citing or arresting them. That is unfair. You can't pick and choose when you want police officers to do their job. When someone gets killed, the police are involved. When you're speeding, the police are involved. You can't choose for police officers to only respond to a murder and not react to you speeding down the road on the same day.
A lot of problems are people only know about police work from what they see in movies and on tv. Pretty much everywhere here in Ohio, quotas do not and have never existed. I'm not saying that's true everywhere but that argument has always been a myth. There are no quotas.
Also, I don't understand why it's not okay for police officers to take a lunch break. There are very few other jobs where you are NOT guaranteed a lunch break at all. Most places require that you get 30-60 minutes for lunch. Sometimes police officers get 30 minutes to eat and sometimes they get 5 minutes because they get called away before they can even place an order.
Again, not defending all police officers here but I just feel a lot of things are misunderstood and unfairly judged. People need to know FACTS before they place judgment instead of basing their judgments on what they THINK. The guy who said he didn't like cops because he got in trouble and was baked....well there's probably more to that story. The guy who said the cops were eating at a restaurant and there was a shooting and they didn't respond...well there's probably more to that story too. I wouldn't tell a doctor how to do a heart transplant, I wouldn't tell a dentist how to fix my tooth and I wouldn't tell a Wendy's employee how flip my French fries without knowing anything about their profession.
Lastly, I know and work with many more good police officers than bad. Are there bad ones? Of course! There are bad people in EVERY profession. However, I believe the number of good ones far outnumber the bad ones. It's also important to realize that when you spend 40 hours per week getting lied to 80% of the time and seeing the worst of people on their worst days...it's very difficult to take things at face value and to believe everybody's story. Even if you're telling the truth. It's not meant to be personal. A police officer doesn't know you personally any more than you know him personally.
Sorry for the rant. I just felt the need to address some things here.

It's pretty hypocritical to expect fair treatment from a police officer when you're judging all of them by saying "I hate ALL cops" or "I hate ALL pigs".
As a police officer, how would you feel if I said I hate all people? Or I hate all criminals even if they're just speeding? Wouldn't you then look at me as one of those bad cops?
In essence, you're doing the same thing you don't want police officers to do to you by pre-judging all of them by stating you hate ALL police officers.

I don't like the police in my college town. It has (had) a reputation as a party school, so I'm not really surprised at their stopping such parties. The problem is is that the town (Salisbury, MD) is one of the crappiest towns in the United States, crime wise. The downtown areas are straight dangerous at times, and there are areas near the school that are bad. The problem with the police force in the town is that they focus too much on busting these parties rather than helping to clean up the sh*t areas that need help. Another reason why I'm annoyed by them is that our fraternity was throwing a closed social (pretty much a party between us and a female group). A group of locals (they were black, the majority of the locals are) showed up, aggressively trying to get into the party. Of course we turned them down, so being the thugs that they were, start throwing punches. A couple guys were hit pretty bad and were hospitalized, as one of the locals had brass knuckles. We called the police, of course, and instead of cooperating with us, all they do is complain about the party, etc. One of the guys had written down the license plate number of the locals who showed up, and tried giving it to one of the officers, but they pretty much ignored him and did nothing about the situation. It's stuff like this that really pisses me off when you have college kids trying to have fun, and you get these douchebag cops pissed off that they are cops and have nothing in their future, and just try and around regular students.

I could go on for days picking apart some of your "claims" of being wronged by police but let me say this; I have been a cop for 9 years, 6 in the most powerful city in the free world but east of the river in Anacostia. During my short tenure I have met men/women who would lay down their lives for me and are the definition of a hero. I have also met some of the scummiest men/women who disgrace the shield. It is like any career you have good and bad apples. You just hear more about the bad apples in the press.

I hate the rebellious teenagers who 'hate' cops because all the drugs and drinking the kids do is illegal and they get punished. The cops don't make the law, they just enforce it. Just because you choose to be an idiot and make stupid decisions, doesn't make cops bad people. The police are the glue of society and without them there would be total anarchy.

I hate at least half the cops. I hate the cops that abuse their power. The cops who dont listen to reason and dont abide the law their supposed to uphold and protect. Cops who will brutally beat someone because they get emotionally invested in the situation, not because its the right thing to do. Case and point... when a cop confronts you and youre not doing any wrong, just try telling him you know youre laws and that you dont have to follow his orders as long as youre not doing anything wrong. See if you dont go to jail because he needs to feel superior. Cops have a bad name and reputation because they give it to themselves. You dont see us booing and hissing them when they catch a bank robber or murderer do you? People dont hate them just for fun, its because theyre not always right, and thats a pill they refuse to swallow. It's all but true in most cases. No, it's not. When a cop "confronts you" telling him "you know the law" makes you seem confrontation to begin with. And yes, when a cop has probable cause to stop you and ask you questions, you absolutely 100% have to follow his orders, failing to do so is in violation of the law and you go to jail for being an arrogant dumbass who would rather argue with the police who were probably just gonna ask you 1-2 minutes worth of question, than just abide and be done with it. Nobody seems to understand, or want to understand how the law operates or works. If a white male runs up to you in a Wal-Mart parking lot, sticks a gun in your face, takes your wallet, necklace watch, groceries, and speeds off in a blue truck with a Auto Zone bumper stick and dent in the bumper, you call the police and expect them to catch the guy. So in turn they put out a BOLO (Be On the LookOut for) on the vehicle because 8/10, crooks steal other innocent peoples vehicles to commit armed robberies with, then they ditch them after about an hour, so the police are frantically combing the entire area for blue trucks with Auto Zone bumper stickers and a dent in the bumper being driven by a white male, and if you and your vehicle matches that description, well guess what the police now have? Probable cause to stop and check you out and make sure you're not the crook who just robbed the mom and two kids coming out of the store. "But that's not right at all! Those power hungry pigs have NO right to mess with me AT ALL when I've done nothing wrong! I can't even go somewhere without worrying about getting pulled over by the pigs because my truck may match a description!? BULLSH*T! FASCIST NAZI!" Right? Ok, let's get back to our first scenario...you just got robbed by a white male in a blue truck with an Auto Zone bumper sticker and dent in the bumper...that's kind of specific, huh? You can pretty much narrow it down from there, right? So you're in the parking lot shaking since you almost got killed, and just lost about $200 worth of your private property, giving your statement....when holy sh*t....a blue truck with a dented bumper pulls up across the street and a white male gets out. So you quickly point that out to the police, and they respond with "Oh but look he's going into Burger King to eat. That's probably not him. We don't wanna bother him." "OH MY ING GOD! These lazy pigs don't even care that I just got robbed, these cowards won't go check and I KNOW that's probably the guy right over there! Damn these lazy, corrupt cops!" So you want them searching for your stolen property and the guy who just assaulted you and almost killed you, and expect guaranteed, immediate, results within 5 minutes...but when someone else gets a gun in their face and just out of bad luck, YOU match a description, they better not dare come and "mess with you" because "you know the law", right? People need to step out of their TV/Media/Music bubble perception of how the world of law enforcement actually works.

I sure as hell wouldn't. I give alot of respect for CO's. They have a tough job and deserve a good pay.
