So Big Show won the WWF Title at Survivor Series 1999. I've always wondered why? The win literally came out of no where. Vince tried pushing him hard in the summer of 99 by teaming him w/ Taker, but once Taker went down w/ an injury, the guy lost a ton of momentum. I know HHH loosing the title was to start the HHH/Vince feud and the whole wedding to Stephanie angle, but why choose Big Show to win it? I know they wanted to hold off Rocky's title win until around WM. Austin and Taker were both out w/ injuries, so they were out. The WWF was lacking talent, but why not give the title to someone like Mick Foley for one last run? Granted he also had injuries but he wreslted through WM w/ multiple injuries. Just has always confused me why Big Show got the win when he wasn't that over at the time.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?

I completely forget, but Austin was going to win and was booked that way in the build up but was injured. I could of swore Big Show's father died? So they made it a feel good story. Also it built to Vince costing Triple H the title after he hit him with the belt, then Triple H got chokeslamed...
Basically, the title had to be off Triple H, and with Austin out and The Rock needing to win the Rumble, Big Show got given the nod.

You kind of answered your own question. If the title had to be off Triple H and Austin, Taker or Rock weren't there and MickJack ManLove was injured then who else would have won it? I guess Kane maybe. But I'm not really sure of who else could have won it. Plus maybe it was a way they saw to build up Show even more. They figured a title would help, for lack of a better term, legitimize him and what better time to do that than when 4 of your biggest stars are out.

this always suprised me too.it seemed like Vince was trying to ignore the severity of Austins injury from Summerslam 99 on.I mean they knew the night of Fully Loaded 99 that Austin needed that op.thats why he wrestled so sparingly from August through November.

Either way...it didn't work.
Big Show didn't even main event as champion and dropped it like a month later to HHH.

Yep Big Show flopped bad, though its not all his fault. Defending the title against guys like Big Vis and Big Boss Man did him no favors. I've heard it was a combo of not getting over and a bad attitude that led to them taking the title off of him so quickly. A quick Kane title run probably would have been more interesting. He was already feuding w/ X-Pac and it would have been more interesting to see him win the title and how that would have played into their storyline than Big Show winning it out of no where.
I'm a fan of Show but his stuff from 1999-2001 sucked. It wasn't until he moved to SD in 2002 that he was finally used right as a dominant heel. His first title run just sucked and wasn't memorable besides for Boss Man driving away w/ Shows dad's casket.

I blame the creative for that reign. He could have been a good Champion if his matches weren't booked against guys like the Big Bossman.

Yeah, but he had to wrestle the Bossman, since they were feuding at the time. I think it was good that he was champion then. It shocked everyone, and it gave 2 months of the belt not being on guys like Triple H, Rock or Austin, as it was for the entire 1999 year.

I always thought, in the storyline, it would of made more sense for Test to win it as they seemed determined to push during that time.

Wight defo had a title reign in his contract too.....partly I think this was just getting it out of the way so they could build HHH properly.which needed to happen.

This was a bigtime flop I felt they thought they could get some cheap sympathy face heat by doing that stupid father casket dragging skit. Anyways it didn't work worth a shit. I thought they should have taken a chance on a guy that never wore the title.
