Kyle Busch and Kyle Busch Motorsports announced today via an official press release that Jason Leffler would not return to the #18 Dollar General Toyota Tundra in the Camping World Truck Series, starting this weekend.
"This sport is driven by sponsorship dollars, if you aren't impressing sponsors then something will have to give", stated Kyle Busch in an interview with ESPN. "We have enjoyed having Jason [Leffler] driving our truck, but Dollar General wasn't happy with the results and requested a change. We can't ignore a request by a sponsor. Sponsors are too important to ignore".
"It really is a disappointing situation, but we have to do what is best for our organization", said Rick Ren [KBM General Manager] in the same interview with ESPN. "We have talked to Jason [Leffler] and told him that if he can find a sponsor for a few races, we will be more than happy to put him in a second truck", Ren stated adding that there are no hard feelings between Leffler and KBM.
This was back up by Jason Leffler on Twitter who tweeted, "No hard feelings between myself and KBM. I understand the situation, as much as it sucks. Trying to find sponsor for 2nd truck." (6/11/2012 - JaySki.com)

Kyle Busch Motorsports Announces Jason Leffler Replacement Kyle Busch Motorsports announced that Matthew Anderson will replace Jason Leffler in the #18 Camping World Truck for the rest of the season. Anderson has driven for Kyle Busch Motorsports at the local level for the past two years, picking up 10 wins for the organization.
"I am happy to get this chance with Kyle Busch Motorsports on such a big level, despite how much of an awkward situation this is", Anderson stated via a telephone interview with SPEED Channel. "The fact that Kyle Busch has seen something in me for the past two years to keep me around - with few sponsorship chances - has always amazed me, but now for him to give me this chance is phenomenal"
Kyle Busch Motorsports still needs sponsorship for six races, but Anderson said that they already have two sponsors ready to jump on for those six races.
"Dollar General won't be on board all season, so we are still needing sponsors for six more races. Monster Energy is ready to jump on board of the truck for a few of those, but there is another sponsor that wants to jump on as well. We should have it all done within the next few weeks", Rick Ren stated in his own phone interview with SPEED Channel.

Anderson, Busch Make Media Rounds June 19th, 2012
Kyle Busch Motorsports owner, Kyle Busch and Matthew Anderson, Kyle Busch Motorsports' newest driver did the media rounds days before Anderson's debut at Kentucky. This included a stop at SPEED's "NASCAR Race Hub", here are some tidbits from the interview.
Kyle On Putting A Young Driver Behind The Wheel "When Dollar General told us that they weren't happy with Jason [Leffler]'s progress this season, we had very little turn around time to put together another deal for a driver. Rick Ren and myself were making calls for a one race deal at Kentucky, but Matthew came into my office and asked for a chance. I was iffy on putting him in, but he sold himself to me. You have to give someone a chance before you know what they can and can't do."
Matthew On Selling Himself As A Driver : "I didn't go into Kyle's office and blow smoke about how I could win every race, I just told Kyle and Rick that I would like a chance to prove myself. I'm sure many will think that I was a little cocky to walk into my owner's office and ask for to take over the truck, but all I wanted was a shot. Maybe I'm just a heck of a salesman, maybe Kyle was just in that big of a jam, but I don't think he would blindly give me a chance.
Kyle On Dealing With Sponsorship "I was actually surprised when they came to us and said that they wanted a driver change, or they were leaving. They [Dollar General] pretty much hand picked Jason, so it was shocking. They've been a loyal sponsor of ours and I understand their position as a sponsor, so hopefully we can get the job done.
Matthew On Pressures of Sponsors : "Throughout racing late models and legends for Kyle, I haven't really had to deal with those pressures. We'd go run with or without a sponsor, let the chips fall where they do. I don't want to say I don't feel the pressure knowing that at any moment - now with the whole Jason situation - that Dollar General could pull a similar move on me, as it's in the back of my mind. It's just that I am going to drive the wheels of the truck and see what happens.
Matthew On Chances of Winning : "Chances of me taking Kyle Busch Motorsports to victory lane? Pretty good. You look at where the team [KBM] have won races and they proves that the equipment is the top of the series, I just have to quickly adjust to the way that Eric Phillips works and he will have to adjust to the way that I work. At the end of the day.. I'm there to win and anything but first, sucks.
Kyle On Comparisons Between The Two [laughs] "There is this running joke within the KBM shop that Matthew's just a "mini-Kyle" when he puts on the helmet. I haven't got to see him race [in-person] much with the late models, but everyone around the shop says that much like myself, when he puts the helmet on.. he's a totally different person. We'll see just how much of that is true in these truck races.. and see if it is a good thing [laughs].

Anderson Sends Clear Message With Kentucky Victory It was a weekend of firsts for Matthew Anderson, #18 Dollar General Toyota Tundra, as he would qualify on the pole for the NASCAR Camping World Truck series race at Kentucky. "We had a fast truck from the moment we unloaded here at Kentucky, I thought we had a good shot at a top-five start, didn't expect to grab the pole," Anderson stated to the media following qualifying. When the green flag dropped on Kentucky Speedway for 100 laps under the lights, Anderson (#18) would lead the field to green and wouldn't let go of the lead. Joey Coulter (#22 Richard Childress Racing) would attempt to take the lead from Anderson (#18) in the first few laps, but Anderson wouldn't give it up. The first caution would fly on Lap 27 when Ty Dillon (#3) would spin and stack up the field behind him. The race would restart on Lap 30 with Anderson (#18) still in the lead, getting a great jump on the field into turn one. Anderson (#18) would lose the lead on Lap 36, but it was a short lived second place run, as he took back the lead on Lap 38. As the field got spread on on Lap 41, everyone know that pit stops would be coming in about ten laps, as the #18 was hoping for a caution instead of green flag pit stops. It wouldn't be though as on Lap 50, Anderson (#18) would drive by pit road.. while almost everyone behind him came in. Lap 51, Anderson (#18) made his way to his pit stall as the leader and grab fuel only, leaving pit road in the 4th position. JR Fitzpatrick (#60) and Taylor Malsam (#25) had came down pit road earlier in the race, leaving them running first and second, and half a race track ahead of the #18. The laps would tick off until lap 77 when Fitzpatrick was forced to come down pit road, giving the lead to Malsam (#25). Anderson (#18) was still hanging around lapped traffic, getting frustrated with NASCAR for not doing anything about the lapped trucks not letting him go. On Lap 78, Malsam (#25) would be forced to pit and that could give the lead back to Anderson (#18). Anderson (#18) would lead from Lap 78 until Lap 85, when JJ Yeley (#46) would spin and bring out the caution flag. Lap 87 brought everyone down pit road, but Anderson (#18) stayed out once again. The race would resume on Lap 91 with Anderson (#18) still leading the race, but it wouldn't be long until another caution would fly at Lap 97 as the Caleb Roark (#63) would get a tap from behind, sending him spinning. Anderson (#18) would have no choice but to pit on Lap 100 under yellow, due to being short on gas. He would give up the lead and would restart 7th, but was behind lapped traffic. The green flag would fly on Lap 102, but the field got bunched up which lead to another yellow flag. Luckily for Anderson (#18), the entire top five was called down pit road for get fuel to the end, giving him the lead back on Lap 104. The green flag would go back in the air on Lap 107 with Anderson(#18) getting a big lead of Mike Skinner (#8) into turn one, but Skinner would close the gap as Anderson (#18) took the white flag on Lap 108. Anderson would lead the final lap as Mike Skinner (#8) closed up on his bummer right at the start finish line, as Anderson wins at Kentucky. Anderson would celebrate his victory by climbing out of the truck and paying a little "tribute" to team owner, Kyle Busch by doing Kyle's trademark bow. Anderson would then drive his truck to victory lane for the first time in his career. "The fact that I was able to lead the most laps and close the deal with the win in my first race, is amazing. I couldn't have done it without the entire Kyle Busch Motorsports team and the guys back at the shop," Anderson stated in victory lane to the SPEED camera. "Kyle and Samantha Busch gave me a chance as they thought I could get the job done, tonight proved I can. It's cool to get Kyle Busch Motorsports back-to-back wins at Kentucky in the summer, but even more cool that Kyle and Samantha are here this weekend." What did Anderson have to say about next week at Iowa? "We've seen Kyle [Busch] come out here and win two, three, whatever races in a row.. let's see if I can put together a string of races comparable to the Kyle Busch Show". ------- Post-Race In NASCAR Media Center On Being Frustrated With Lap Traffic Before Lap 100 "I am not sure if their spotters just weren't aware that I was running second, but NASCAR should have stepped in and let them know I am not racing them for a spot, that I was on the lead lap. It was really a struggle from Lap 51 to 78 to get around those lapped cars, that's way too many laps to have to be raced like a clown by lapped trucks." On A Maximum Points Day "When I was out front [at the start] I was just trying to lead as many laps I could, get to the point where nobody could lead more than I did, then go from there. It's great to close the gap on the points leader now, as the top five in points had a rocky day." On Doing Kyle's Signature Bow After Winning "When I took the white flag, I was thinking that I can actually win this. While I was trying to hold off Mike Skinner, I was thinking about the fact that if I win this, I have to do something, anything really. When I climbed out of the truck on the front stretch to get the checkered flag to celebrate, it just clicked and I did Kyle's bow as a little tribute. I might just have to steal it from him." A media member then brings up that Joey Coulter (#22) wasn't happy with the way Matthew raced him early on."My spotter told me post-race that Joey wasn't happy with me, but I didn't race him dirty or hard. Did I pull over and let him go? No, because that's not racing to me." On Kyle Busch Being On His Pit Box "There was a point early on where I was burning up my right front, just over driving. Kyle came onto the radio and told me a few things to change as far as the way I was driving, but that was really the only time he came on the radio other than after I won. It's cool to get the win with him here, since that's rare with the different schedule between the Cup Series and Truck series. " On Momentum Heading To Iowa "The only issue there is that it's a few weeks away, but I think momentum can carry through. This is not only a confidence boost for myself, but for everyone apart of this #18 team." On Closing In On The Championship "Were getting closer, but still 70+ points out. We need 2-3 more of these races to really close the deal. The issue is that there is - what - 12 races now left? I need 2-3 races of max points to close the top 5, which there isn't a ton of time left. It's all max points from here." Kyle Busch On His Team Getting Back To Victory Lane "As an owner, I am thrilled to get Dollar General and our entire team back in victory lane. I'm more thrilled that he [Matthew] was able to go out there in his first race weekend, sit on the pole and win. That's a hard task for anyone, much less a rookie in his first race."

Anderson Goes Back-To-Back
After last week's victory at Kentucky Speedway, Matthew Anderson (#18) went into Iowa with big momentum. It was a rocky weekend for Anderson, as after being one of the fastest trucks in practice, he would qualify 30th. "I just couldn't get the feel for the truck that I had in practice," Anderson stated following qualifying.
Anderson (#18) would show his power in the Camping World Truck Series after starting 30th, as he would crack the Top-5 with only 7 laps of racing. Lap 13 saw Anderson (#18) battle for second with Kevin Harvick (#2), which got a little heated with Harvick door-slamming Anderson as he attempted to make the pass. Anderson, obviously, unhappy with the contact would bump Harvick and move him up on the track on Lap 19, which Harvick retaliated by intentionally spinning out Anderson, who kept it off the way. The yellow flag would come out due to the spin.
Radio Communication Under Caution: "What the hell? He freaking door slams me and then overreacts when I give him a tap, what a chump. We'll pit here and get enough fuel for the end. Let the #2 know that I get to his bumper, he's going around. Let him know that!"
The field would put on Lap 21 with Anderson running 31st (of 36). Anderson would come down pit road for fuel, four tires, and damage repair. When the green flag would drop on Lap 25 for the restart, Anderson was 25th and started knocking 'em down. By lap 37, Anderson had taken the lead.. but the caution would fly just moments after taking the lead, as Caleb Roark (#63) would spin out.
Due to the first caution and pit stop, everyone would stay out without pitting. Anderson would lead the field to green on Lap 44 and he started pulling away with the field. Another caution would fly on Lap 49, when Max Gresham (#24) would spin in front of most of the field, but wouldn't take anyone with him.
Lap 51 would see the restart with Anderson still in the lead, who didn't look back as the race would go green for the remaining laps, with Anderson taking the victory on Lap 95!
Radio Communication After Race: Hell yeah! Awesome stop on pit road, awesome truck, fantastic! Thank you guys. Woo! That's how it's done.
As Anderson was being passed after the race by the field, Kevin Harvick (#2) would bump Anderson again post-race. Anderson didn't take too kindly to the post-race bump and drove under Harvick, spinning him out post-race. Anderson would drive to the front stretch do celebrate, before going to victory lane.
Victory Lane Speech : "I don't know what was more interesting about this race, the fact that I got back-to-back wins, or the fact Kevin Harvick wrecks me. Regardless, it's amazing to go back-to-back and it was all about the crew putting together a great truck that allowed me to get to the front quickly when I put myself into a hole", Anderson said post-race. In regards to contact with Harvick Anderson said, "I drove under him - gave him plenty of room - early on, then he just turns down to door slam me. I gave him a little bump and then he lets me go, then just dumps me. After the race, he bumps me up into the wall.. so I just gave him a little tap post-race and it just spun him out."

I love NASCAR. It's a weird diary to see but it's always been a joy of mine to watch. Are you simming this with anything or just writing it up? just out of curiosity

Harvick/Anderson Meet With NASCAR Post-Iowa Jayski.com
Following the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Iowa, NASCAR met with Kevin Harvick and Matthew Anderson regarding their contact during and after the race. NASCAR announced following the meeting that both were given a warning and no further action would be taken. Both Anderson and Harvick spoke to the media post-meeting.
"Early in the race, I accidentally got into him and he hit me in return, so I bumped him in the corner and he just went around. It's not my fault that he couldn't save it. And post-race, he just dumps me. There is no sense in that, the guys at the shop work too hard for that." Harvick said
"If he [Harvick] is so worried about the guys at the shop, maybe he shouldn't door slam someone early in a run. After the race, he slams me again, so there is no way any of his contact was on accident. Yeah, [post-race] I dumped him.. but it's not my fault he couldn't save it, right?" Anderson stated to the media.
Kyle Busch was asked for comment from media which he responded, "Whatever happens between my driver and another driver is between them. I don't think it's any coincidence who Matthew got into trouble with though."

Class of the Field in Chicago!
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returned to Chicagoland Speedway, with Matthew Anderson starting 8th in the field. It wasn't long until Anderson took the lead on Lap 7 and never looked back, picking up his Third Victory in a row!
"We had the best (truck) all weekend, it was driver error during qualifying that put us back. I'm very impressed at how well myself and the entire #18 team have clicked in these few weeks", Anderson stated to the media post-race. In reference to a question about putting on a Kyle Busch like performance Anderson stated, "I (think) that is one reason that I was given the chance in the #18 truck, as Kyle saw the talent level that I have. I am not saying that he sees himself in me, but there was something there that made him make that choice, whatever that may be."
Anderson's three week domination has put him within 24 points of the points lead, with 12 races left in the season.

Flawless Race At Tricky Track
There are very few drivers who can stake the claim that they ran a flawless race at the "tricky triangle", but Matthew Anderson (#18, KBM) can. Anderson would roll off third in what was a 25 lap shootout, with NASCAR shrinking the race to 25 from last year's 50. Anderson would make a dive into turn one and take over the lead. Anderson's lead was eaten up by the second lap when Miguel Paludo lost control and spun out, bringing out the caution. The 18 team decided to stay on the track, along with every other team. On the Lap 5 restart, Anderson pulled away again and nothing would stand in his way. On Lap 17, Anderson made his pit stop that would allow him to make it to the end, but wouldn't give up the lead and came out first with four tires and gas. Anderson would leave his mark on the race by putting all but 14 cars a lap down on his way to victory! Anderson's win makes it four in a row for himself, Kyle Busch Motorsports, and Toyota. Below are quotes from the media interviews post-race.
What Was The Key To Success Today "The key really was that we worked on race trim over qualifying trim. If you go back and (watch) practice, you'll see half the garage spent 95% of practice trying to get a perfect truck for their qualify run, but we stayed focus on getting a truck that was good in race trim. You can be the fastest guy for one lap, but if you're not the best throughout a five, ten lap run... that one lap doesn't mean anything"
How'd You Pick Up How To Run The Track So Quick "Denny Hamlin (Sprint Cup Series driver) took time to come over and talk to me about the best way to get around. He sat on the pit box the entire race and besides Kyle, was the first person to the window post-race."
A few drivers have said post-race that NASCAR should take a good look at your truck, questioning if it'll pass inspection, why? "Well, when you kick their [censored] four weeks in a row, they're obviously going to question it. We've passed pre-race and post-race inspection, so there is nothing that we have an advantage over, besides maybe the driver. I am not really worried about the garage rumors and drama, unless it makes my Dollar General Tundra go faster, really doesn't matter."
Thoughts On Moving To 2nd In Points "I have said this since I stepped into this spot, it'll take max points to get a run at the championship, I've pulled it off every week. It's not the time to kick our feet up and be happy that we're closer. I don't want to be close, I want to be holding the championship trophy above my head after Miami"
Would Losing The Championship Ruin A Good Season "It isn't going to ruin the wins and success, no. I'm not really thinking about Miami nor losing the championship, I am focused on Michigan and trying to go five in a row."
In a question posed to team owner Kyle Busch, the media inquired about Anderson's future with the team. "Coach [Joe Gibbs] - Sprint Cup Series Team Owner - has already expressed some interest about signing him for a Nationwide Series ride for 2013, but he'll have to fight with me over it. As far as I am concerned, Matthew will have a ride here as long as he wants or until he is ready to move into the Cup Series."
