Just got back from seeing this. I enjoyed it. I don't know if it was necessarily better than Raimi's first Spider-Man, but it certainly wasn't any worse. This movie was a lot better than Spider-Man 3 so that's a major plus, it just isn't a movie I'm clamouring to see again like I was for The Avengers. Andrew Garfield played a great Spider-Man and enjoyed him a lot more than Tobey Maguire. Emma Stone was great as Gwen Stacey and Dennis Leary was also great although I wish he had more screen time. I was also surprised with how well the action was shot considering Marc Webb's previous work. Overall I thought this movie had a great cast and story. 7/10.
With that said, I think I can understand why some people felt that the origin story was a bit overkill. It did take quite a while for the action to start due to it. That and Raimi's Spider-Man is only 10 years old and the origin is really still fresh in many movie-goer minds. I think many people just wanted to see Spider-Man thrust into action, which I would have been cool with, however I understand from a "rebooting" perspective that the director and writer(s) most likely felt it needed to be redone completely for their story to truly begin.
I'm really looking forward to the sequel as there is still a lot of mystery surrounding Peter's parents (more specifically his father). I also imagine (and am expecting) that the sequel will be more action packed. I'm hoping Venom makes his way into this new trilogy and is done right this time.

I went in with lowered expectations due to the movie having no real reason to exist (except for money/contract reasons), and I ended up loving it. The movie has its share of problems, and there are a couple major plotlines that seem to just get dropped (search for uncle ben's killer, the oscorp employee that lizard attacks on the bridge), but dammit, it was a lot of fun. Its a shame we'll never see Raimi's Spider-Man 4, but I'm happy that the movie we got in it's place turned out this enjoyable.

Im very glad Raimi has stepped away.his mealy mouth take on Spider Mans rogues gallery was utterly annoying.he had wore out his welcome with me.
his "he isnt really a bad guy" version of Dock Ock especially was horrifying to me.I forgave him with Osborn because that worked but it fell down badly with Octopus and Sandman.

I absolutely loved this film. It was epic on a serious level. The story played out really well, and character development was superb. 1000 X better than the 2002 origin film, this one was just more 'spidey' Can't wait for the next installment, I'm hooked. Plus Emma Stone was dead fit in this film. Yes, far better than the atrocious Kirsten Dunst. And I was really skeptical about Andrew Garfield at first but he actually did a much better job than Tobey McGuire. I was originally against a reboot but now I'm really glad they did it, I have a feeling this is going to turn into a really epic series. how can you compare the 2 women when they where totally diffrent charecters i think they both where good in thier parts

I loved it. I've always been a fan of Spider-Man, and I went into this cautiously optimistic and a little nervous, because truth be told, I love the original trilogy. I even like 3, as flawed and disjointed as it was. At times, it did fee a little too similar, but that was more or less impossible to avoid. I think the overall tone and approach of the film was completely different. Garfield's Spider-Man is nothing like Tobey's, and I loved that. Emma Stone was adorable and absolutely charming in her role. Agree with all of this. Thought the two leads were superb.

I thought it was pretty awesome. I wasn't all that excited about it, even though I LOVE Denis Leary and Emma Stone, because it seemed too soon.
But I was very pleasntly surprised. It wasn't perfect by any means, but it felt better than the Raimi movies for sure, and I really liked Garfield as Spidey a lot much more than Tobey.

They're both Spider-Man's love interest, that's how I can compare them. Doesn't matter that they're both different characters. And Kirsten Dunst's acting is beyond abhorrent, I'm so glad she wasn't apart of this.

So, what seemed "dropped" for no reason, were put off on purpose.

If you want more info on Rajit Ratha I suggest reading the prelude comic book as well as play the video game. Both of those really further the storyline and offer great insight on what's to come.

I didn't mean that as a negative, I knew beforehand that sequels had been signed, and I'm kind of glad they saved the payoff for the search for uncle ben's killer for later. But, I just read an interesting article today, and apparently the Ratha character's story had a lot more in the original cut of the film that got taken out. badassdigest.com/2012/07/05/was-the-untold-story-cut-from-the-amazing-spider-man/

Walked in with small expectations, and walked out in love. The Movie was pretty awesome. Garfield did a great job as did Emma Stone. I fully expect myself to see it again, and cannot wait till the sequel. The only thing I'm confused about is why half of what was in the trailers, isn't in the movie. I question why such large changes were made to the plot.

I agree (especially since the badly executed symbiote story in Spider-man 3), although I'll go one further and say maybe 3 movies is necessary. For example: Amazing Spider-Man 2: finds the symbiote right at the end, and puts the black suit on (except after main story is over, kind of like a snippet before the end of credits). This suit should look more like the comic version, and not the bad version of Raimi's adaptation. Amazing Spider-Man 3: Black Spider-Man throughout whole film, and sheds it at the end of film, to set up Venom Amazing Spider-Man 4: Venom as main villain.

Saw it last night, it really suprised me. I remember back when the original movies came out, I was really excited for them. I didn't quite have that feeling going into this one. That all changed when I came out. While 2 remains my favorite, this was just epic. I'm excited for the next one. Garfield played Parker so well and the Lizard really worked as the villain. Also, I love Emma Stone and thought she played the role of Gwen really, really well. Marc Webb is awesome, I hope he signs on for #2. Not sure what coming out of the closet has to do with the viewing experience, but congrats.

I won't see it. I think it's totally ridiculous that they are remaking a movie this soon. Hopefully this will go the way of dvd a month. Raimi's Spider-man was the best. This just looks like a cheap knock off.

I saw this film today. I kind of liked it better than the Raimi (spelling?) films. I'm thinking about getting the game for 360. Anyone here have/played it? If so, is it any good?
