Solid Snake will reportedly return for Metal Gear Solid 5.
Hideo Kojima is said to have told French games magazine IG (via CVG) that his team has "not yet finished with Solid Snake".
"Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance never claimed to be a Metal Gear Solid. This is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake," he apparently said.
"It is a spinoff that tries something different. We have not yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots."
Kojima also suggested that the game will utilise a new 'FOX' engine and that it may incorporate social interactions similar to Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
The quotes are yet to be verified, as the interview is said to feature in the magazine's July issue. There is no mention of the interview online, however.
Metal Gear Solid 5 was confirmed by Hideo Kojima last November.
The game is expected to be released between April 2013 and May 2014.
Konami released Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on Xbox 360 and PS3 in February. A PlayStation Vita version will launch later this month.
Platinum Games' hack-and-slash action title Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, meanwhile, will launch early on in 2013.
