Interesting points so far in this thread. Also, I think the whole 'biggest face in wrestling' thing has run it's course. Most young people probably aren't aware of what he's done for wrestling. Hell, even TNA chose Sting as their first inductee into their HOF.... ?? What Logic is this...It's the TNA Hall of Fame, meaning that Sting has done WAY more for TNA than Hogan, who's only been there for a few years.

one thing to remember:
when Hogan came back for his 2nd WWF stint,he was already a big name. not only because he was main eventing in the AWA , but because he had been in Rocky III, a hugely successful mainstream movie. so people OUTSIDE of wrestling already knew who he was,and he helped bring some of them in when he returned to the WWF. it was like the perfect storm -
Vince going national with the WWF,bringing in tons of stars from other promotions.
insert Hogan, one of the hottest wrestlers in the world, and a mainstream celebrity himself.
so,no anyone COULDN'T have been Hogan! he had the charisma, the look, the publicity, and Vince McMahon's marketing genius behind him,all of which combined to create "Hulkamania" and the wrestling boon period of the 80's.

What I still don't understand is the concept that because Hogan didn't lose often, somehow he didn't sell attacks?
He ALWAYS was close to losing in big matches, pounded on continuously until he came back and won the match. It was his gimmick.
Think about the matches with Andre, Savage, and countless others in the 80's and 90's. Most of the Wrestlemania III match saw Hogan being pounded on until his big comeback. Same with the WM V match with Savage.
It was a shock when he lost the title to Andre via a cheating ref. A shock when he lost it again to the warrior after missing his leg drop. How about losing to Goldberg, or Rock, or Giant or Lesnar. His character, both as a heel and a face was the unstoppable force. When he lost it mattered.
That said, we usually forget that he lost a ton to guys like Mr. Perfect via count out. It always made the winner seem better but it kept the story alive. And stories lasted a lot longer than they do today, so it made sense to keep the battle smoldering until the blow off PPV.
Is Hogan the greatest wrestler of all time? Yes, in a traditional wrestling kind of way.

I mean sure he could have, and he'll probably will be, but there are at least 10 guys that should go in their HOF before Hogan

You know, in any other sport or entertainment field someone with Hogans rep should probably be the first person to be inducted in to a hall of fame. However this is wrestling and there is no rhyme or reason as to who goes in and why (should Koko B Ware and Vince snr's driver really be in the HOF before the likes of Macho Man?) My guess would be if Hogan went in first, then they've essentially inducted a WWE hall of famer. With Sting, TNA have inducted "one of their own". Just my theory.
