How many times have you heard Hogan in his career speak highly of himself about wrestling? That wrestling wouldn't be what it is today without what he's done?
I've never really thought about it before, but Hogan's ego is bigger than the wrestling ring.
I have been watching matches (WWF and WCW) with Hogan, and the guy didn't sell very much. At all.
I understand the whole 'Hulkamania' schtick, but he even made other wrestlers look bad; example: watching a tag match between AA/Flair vs Macho Man/Hogan; AA's spinebuster was amazing; there weren't many power moves back then. Hogan no sold it. Got up immediately. After the match, the Giant (Wight) stepped into the ring, and attempted a chokeslam on Hogan. Hogan didn't even attempt to jump. Made Wight look weak for his size.
There are numerous other examples. With that said, is it me, or did Hogan have a pride problem?

You're underestimating how powerful Hulk Hogan was during the Hulkamania era. It wasn't a schtick, he was the most popular wrestler on the entire planet. Was he tremendous wrestler? No, far from it. But it's definitely conceivable that professional wrestling would be drastically different if not for Hulk Hogan and Hulkamania.

I dont think many people are going to disagree Hulk has a lot of pride, and was generally unwilling to put over numerous superstars during his peak years. However, wrestling definitely would look a lot different today without Hulk. The world-wide popularity he brought to the sport and to wrestlemania changed the landscape of the industry and made it into a national organization, not some small regional promotion that was the norm for 20 years prior.

Hogan did what he had to do and what he was asked/told to do in the ring. Anyone that thinks wrestling could/would have been just as successful without Hogan is a fool.

alot of younger fans fail to see how popular hogan truly was.. the man was amazingly popular and bigger then the rock, stone cold, cena you name it. Hulk hogan WAS wrestling. the man was larger then life... EVERYONE knew who hulk hogan was.. and the man can wrestle... look at alot of his japan matches.. he wrestled completly different there then in america. yeah he could pull his swing and say no.. this guy does not go over...but... would you want people to take you out of your spot too? lol He think he was just scared... yeah he should share but none of us,.. can say we wouldn't hog the spotlight..... as none of us have ever been in his spot... it could be so orgasmic,.. you'd not want to give up that spot..
Alot of younger fans don;'t seem to realize wrestling have different styles.. not just what guys like D-bry, aj styles, punk, ect do. it kinda gets on my nerves when younger fans say.. oh, they can't wrestle,.. just because they do not wrestle thatsyle...

I agree with that last part, everyone thinks to be a good wrestler you have to wrestle that japanese, high flying style and i know a lot of it is sheep just jumping on bandwagons when one guy is praised, but it does get on my nerves too when they assume because they weren`t entertained by one guys style that means he`s a bad worker. But to the topic at hand, I think Hogan did stuff like that because he had an issue with looking weak in the ring. Its well known Hogan didn`t like putting guys over. But at the same time I understand why he wouldn`t wanna put just anyone over, he`s Hulk Hogan, he wouldnt have gotten there if he didnt look out for himself once in a while and make guys look weak. Personally, i never like guys no selling anything.. even if they were trying to establish a guy `can`t be hurt`

There was plenty of selling with Hogan, but it all came from Vince McMahon. Vinny Mac convinced a generation of kids (and a percentage of adults) that seeing a bodybuilder constantly no-selling and doing the same basic moves over and over was something special.
Every wrestler's success is due in part to the company/companies for which he worked as well as the era in which he existed. However, in Hogan's case, this is much more pronounced. Hogan was never close to being the commodity on his own as he was with the WWF machine behind him. But you simply can't convince him of that.

I really don't understand why suddenly everyone seemed to hate Hulk Hogan, it suddenly became cool to do so. Hes made some bad decisions in his personal life but not any enough to make me hate what he did in the ring.
He wasn't a great wrestler but he nearly always had an entertaining match. He also wasn't a terrible wrestler by any means, how else would he have some of the greatest matches of all time with Savage, The Warrior and The Rock.
He should be credited as one of the all time greats, he's the only person in the business who is bigger than the WWE and wrestling in general.

Sgt Slaughter is in GI Joe. I fail to see your point. At one point in time, Slaughter was just as big in the WWF as Hogan.

His feud with Iron Sheik made him huge. He became the 2nd biggest face of the company (at the time) only when they (WWF) pushed Hogan and Hogan became the WWF champion. That's the thing with this thread; how much of his success does Hogan owe to McMahon?

At no point in his career was Sgt. Slaughter as big as Hulk Hogan. Yeah Slaughter was awesome, but he was nowhere near as big as Hogan... and yeah Hogan no sold things sometimes. That was part of his superhero gimmick thing. Cena does it, Rock and Austin have no sold at times and the Undertaker's gimmick is basically he doesn't feel pain and doesn't have to sell. All the big names have done it. Hogan was the biggest thing in wrestling.

Hogan played the biggest role for the WWF popularity explosion of the 1980s.
Even if Hogan's #1 fan is Terry Bollea.
