Well it's time to talk about my favorite feud of all time and essentially, the feud which got me into wrestling.
I watched from time to time during the early-mid 1990s but one day, my neighbor was over on a chilly Feburary Monday night in 1997 and wanted to watch Monday Night Raw.
Even at 9 years old, I knew wrestling was "fake"...at least I thought it was...until I saw Stone Cold cost Bret Hart the WWF Championship against Sid.
I was hooked.
Looking back, I really do believe Stone Cold and Bret Hart had one of the greatest feuds in wrestling history. It looked real, it felt real and it had me hook, line and sinker. I wish they made a "Greatest Rivalries" DVD about this feud. They never had a bad match.
From Kuwait to Survivor Series 1996, to the Final Four to Wrestlemania 13 to Revenge of Taker to Canadian Stampede...they were all great.
This feud got me into wrestling and it will always be my favorite. It also made me one of the biggest Hitman fans on the planet.
Just...just watch:
I could (and have) watched these two all day. It's one of the few things that still give me chills watching. Just amazing stuff.
Thoughts?

I know what you mean, i feel the same way. The feud is up there with the greatest feuds in the history of pro wrestling.
I started to really get into wrestling in 1991 & i became a huge Bret Hart fan, he had it all (5* wrestling ability,'IT' factor, awesome look & attire) except from talking. Now i pointed that out because Stone Cold was not the only one who benefited from the feud.
The feud brought out the best of the Hitman, 2 classics matches and going from one of the most poor-average talkers to one of the best 1997 onwards. It really showcases Brets talent that he could reinvent himself(heel) and improve at 40 years old!!
Not only was it the matches (one of which is up there with the greatest in wrestling history) it was the countless moments such as...
The Royal Rumble incident Final Four Austin causing Bret to lost the next night The Cage match against Sid when Austin assisted him The brawl & ambulance Raw The stare down at Canadian Stampede
It is scary to think, but this feud still had so much in it. If Bret never left these two could of kept going till Bret put him over clean.
Could you imagine the Bret & HBK feud spilling over into it as well? Bret & Shawn bitching in the ring over who is the best & Austin coming out and giving them both stunners leading to a massive 3 way at a future PPV??

3 classic matches man.their rematch after mania 13 was awesome too at IYH:Revenge Of The Taker.
this feud for me had everything.....the two men worked SO well together.you can also tell Bret is a touch suprised at the support Austin got at MSG that night @ SSeries 96.he said it later in interviews too.
Survivor Series 96 was a real turning point for WWF IMO.also great topic Bash +1

I dont think it was booked perfectly though.......there was no blow off match between the two.....where Austin beat Bret 123.that was needed IMHO BUT maybe that was the early/proto plan for WM14?

I always consider this more The Harts vs Austin. At this time Austin was fueding with all the Harts, attacking Pillman in his house, having his matches against Owen for the IC title, and having countless matches on the raws with all 5 of them.

I actually liked the fact that Austin never beat Bret during that run, even though he was clearly on his way to the top. It was kind of different and only added to the epicness of the feud IMO. If it had negatively affected Austin's push or had stalled his momenum at the time, I would be more inclined to agree with you. That didn't happen though, as Austin's popularity only grew larger during and after his feud with Bret.

Austin never quit at Wrestlemania 13. That was a "victory" in the fans eyes. He didn't beat Bret, but technically Bret didn't beat him in the way he wanted either. Same goes for Revenge of Taker...they almost COULDN'T beat each other and it was a stalemate. I liked that.

Best feud of 96/97 by far. I talked about this here a few months back.
