I just bought Batman Earth one, i bought it thinking its a re-telling of Batmans origin on the current ongoing batman but i find out from someone on a forum its a different Batman...this is what confuses new readers. I don't know how you could confuse it. It's not stated anywhere on the book that it has any ties to the current Batman title. It's not written by Scott Snyder. It's distinguished right in the title that it takes place in its own universe. It'd be like buying Ultimate anything by Marvel and wondering why Spider-Man is a thirteen year old minority figure, or why half the universe is dead. So Batman ongoing is on Earth? I thought Earth one was where all the current ongoing DC titles take place because when i seen Earth 2 get its own series i just though well the ones im reading must be earth one. As for the writer i dont see your point i mean loads of different writers have written for the same series. Maybe because im a newb, i didnt really get back to reading comics until DC did their whole new 52 thing. Im sure im not the only new reader that was/is confused.

Did you not read the back of the book? It probably says that it is some kind of re-imagining of the story. Also Alfred has a shotgun on the cover so that probably should have tipped you off that it has nothing to do with regular Alfred.

In one breath you say that multiple writers write for the same title, then say that you only began reading following the new 52 launch. Scott Snyder has written the main Batman title since the very start of that launch. Also, welcome to New Earth.
