I am new to collecting the WWE figures. Me and my son are hooked.
1. How do you find the rare ones? 2. Do you order offline alot? 3. Are Display Stands a must to show off collection? 4. Do you buy two of each? One to open and one to display/play with?
Thanks for your time and can't wait to find out more information on this forum.

Welcome to the boards.
1. If you can't find them in stores, usually you can find them on ebay, but they will be more than retail. Or, once you get 50 non spam posts, we have a classified section on here where people can buy, sell, and trade stuff.
2. I personally do because it saves a lot of time and gas money as opposed to driving around to different stores and coming up empty handed a lot.
3. I don't use/like the display stands and my display works just fine I think.
4. I usually only buy one of each and open all of my figures. MOC takes up too much space, and I also like to see/enjoy the entire figure out of the packaging.

1. How do you find the rare ones? It's pretty much one of two ways -- get to the store within a couple of hours of them putting the figures out, or order online. Other than that, it's completely down to luck/chance. It's quite difficult to order offline, other than phoning local stores and getting them to hold stuff (which I have done a few times). Generally people who are ordering stuff are doing it online. I've started to more lately, as it becomes harder and harder to find stuff. It totally depends on your display. I used to use display stands for all of my figures until they stopped including them, and I don't really miss them. When I stopped using display stands, I could get a lot more figures into the same space. I have way too many to display now anyway considering the size of my place... So ultimately, they do look better on the stands, but they also take up more room. And Mattel is being pretty slow in the promised "printable nametags" stakes. No. I buy one of each. There are a couple I've bought two of, but on the whole, it's not for me. I can barely afford to keep up with one of each.

1. How do you find the rare ones? There are regional store findings/reports threads on this forum, usually retail chains stock the same types of cases throughout a town at the same time but some drag their butts.
There aren't really any rare guys like "1 of xxx", just "hot" ones that come and go. Even old ones become highly desired out of nowhere like Elite 7 DX. I usually try to fill in my holes on ebay with less desirable characters like Morrison or Edge for example, guys that aren't as popular or active anymore.
2. Do you order offline alot? I don't know how to do that.
3. Are Display Stands a must to show off collection? Not for me, but some figures have loose ankles and can sabotage your whole display like dominos so they're good to have for that minor annoyance. A few months ago, I was about to sleep, turned the lights off and I hear, "Plop...plop,plop,plop,plop" for like 30 seconds because one of those bastids took a nosedive.
4. Do you buy two of each? One to open and one to display/play with? One of each guy loose for me.

Welcome to the boards. Well, none are really "rare" there are some that are now packed as 1 per every 2 case figures but even those aren't really rare. I guess the closest thing to "rare" would be the RSC exclusives and those you can order at RSC. For the most part the only figures I order online were the Legends sets, RSC Exclusives or sometimes I'll order the one figure (pegwarmer or not) from a series that I want the most and can't wait for. Everything else I wait to find at mass retail. So far the only figure that has been released that I haven't ever found was the DM5 Cena and I still might find that at Big Lots soon. I'd say just buy the ones you or you son like, because it'll be your collection so it's should be filled with the guys you two like. My rule is if I don't find them entertaining in real life whay would I want to spend $10 up to have them on my shelves. If it's a figure I really like I buy multiples. And I open everything (I'd say there's only 10 figures in all the lines I collect that I kept one MOC of) As for displaying I don't use the bases, beucase they take up more room on the shelf then I would like. I do display them in cabinets on 3 tier spice racks that can be found at Tarrget/WalMart/Bed Bath Beyond for $7 - $10 each. Here's how I display mine on the spice racks - Legend Setup -I also use the racks for my Elites & Basics collections (or non-repaint shelves) As well as my Jakks CS & DC comic lines.

1) Very carefully. I pretty much stumble into the ones I want at retail, I never usually find much when I go out looking. Sometimes I some good ones online but its hard even there.
2) I order online and get figures from ebay. They make up most of my collection, I dont have alot from retail.
3) I only have the stands the older ones came with. Most of my figures are MOC anyway.
4) I would a duplicate if it was a hard to find one like Elite 12 Kane that I could use as trade bait but I normally wouldnt buy 2 no.

Quit your 9-5 job, wake up early and make friends with the local scalpers so you can get tips and tricks from them.

1. Contact your local stores and find out when they will be getting new shipments in. First pick of the newest case is ALWAYS the best selection after all. Look in stores you wouldn't think to find wrestling figures such as Walgreens, Big Lots, Ross and various kinds of discount stores. Since most collectors won't think to look there you can get lucky and or pick up less valued wrestlers for your collection on the cheap. Also what is common for you might be rare for others. Edge, C.M. Punk and other superstars clog the shelves of my local stores so if you know fellow collectors looking for those guys you can always buy them and arrange a trade for what you are looking for. Trading fodder is always nice too and will earn you grace points with other collectors who may be able to help you out down the road so don't underestimate the importance of helping others! 2. Order offline is more tricky but it CAN be done. Some stores are willing to order you a case of figures if you are willing to buy them upfront. 3. Not at all. You can stand them up wherever you like without stands but if one falls they are like dominos so if you plan to collect loose figures display stands or some other form of stability is nice to have. You can make stands yourself on the cheap with some tape or glue and some stiff cardboard. The inner tube of used and empty pens are useful for this as well since you can cut them up and use them as little pegs by gluing them to some stiff cardboard. You can also decorate the cardboard with pictures. What I did for a friend when I was younger was I took some cardboard and I cut it into a little square and wrapped it in layers of ductape followed by a collage of pictures of the guy being displayed and then I coated it in a layer of clear nail polish and right before the polish dried I took the inside of some pens and cut them up to use as pegs and then I let that dry. Get creative with whatever is at your disposal. You can also display your figures on your walls by putting up a pegboard or just on nails etc. 4. I am a MIB collector and if you plan on getting one to play with and one to open I suggest that you look online for loose figures since they will be cheaper than buying the figure in store and may come with some accessories thrown in for free. Also be prepared to spend more money collecting doubles. I take it you like MIB and your son likes to play with his or vice versa right? Doubles are great for trading and can help you if the popularity of a certain star increases and thus demand for his figures. What is junk to you is another persons platinum. 5. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions!

They are sold out of elite and basic William Regal figures. Got the elite on eBay after paying $30+ and I am STILL hunting for the basic Regal despite having the 1 of 1,000 version which I scored on eBay for $15 along with a 1 of 1,000 Vladimir Kozlov for an additional $15. They do however have great exclusive figures like the Pink & Black Attack Bret Hart and they offer you the chance to buy the figures and have them delivered to you before they hit stores which no other store can offer you.

1. Checking a lot of stores always helps. I have 2 Targets, 3 Walmarts, 2 TRUs, and 2 K-Marts relatively close. Usually, at least one store will have the figure(s) I'm looking for. 2. Rarely, and only when the price is close to retail. 3. My figures are just standing creepily around the perimeter of an upstairs room in my house. 4. I get one of each wrestler to display out of package.

It's very rare to find HTF figures at night but I did find Yoko before my TRU was closing.

get to the stores early or buy online. Online the prices are higher but they are worth the price because they save you gas money and aggravation looking for them

What would be a average for the HTF ones. I see alot on ebay for as much as $50. Seems the CM Punk Elite 16 is high. If there is so many why is it so high?
