Christopher Eccleston has been attached to the Thor sequel. The former Doctor Who actor is in final negotiations to play a villain in the upcoming sequel, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Eccleston will star as the ruler of the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim if a deal is concluded. The Thor sequel, to be directed by Alan Taylor, is officially titled Thor: The Dark World and features the original cast. The first film was directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh, who recently appeared in the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony playing 19th century engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Eccleston has previously appeared in movies including G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, 28 Days Later and television series Heroes. He most recently played Creon in the National Theatre's take on the Ancient Greek tragedy Antigone, which transferred the play's setting to the 1970s. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thatd be awesome if he was was the villain, he's a really good actor ;D wonder what they'd do with Loki

Never saw him as Who but I thought he did a great job as Destro, based on what he was given story-wise, and he was great in Heroes as well. Seems like a good fit and I'm greatly looking forward to this since Thor is my favorite of the Avengers. I'm sure Loki will still be plenty featured. He seems to be coming off almost Skeletor-like, meaning, he will continue to try and find ways to destroy Thor or hurt the people/things he cares about every time out. I expect Loki to go directly after Jane Foster this time around.
I also want to see more the likes of Ray Stevenson and Jamie Alexander and their characters since I love the battle sequences that crew was involved in from the first go round.

I have a feeling at some point during the movie, Loki will team with Thor for a while before turning on him and joining forces with the Elves. If the movie features any mention of Thanos or the Chitauri, it would only make sense for Loki to attempt to rebuild his 'army'. The Dark Elves are part of his 'phase 2'.

I love how Doctor Who has gotten to popularity in the US that it will list Eccelston as a former Doctor before other roles he could be more known for. A lot of movie news sites were listing him the same way, maybe Marvel did it knowing the Doctor is better than Destro.

I have a feeling that they'll probably only be featured or talked about during the secret endings not the actual movies. I like the actor but not the villain. Pretty boring, IMO. Was hoping for the Enchantress and the Executioner. And if Baron Zemo was the villain in Cap 2, we could've had the original Masters of Evil.

Of course, that might just be my own wishful thinking. I really want them to set up for Surtur if they make Thor 3, and Enchantress needs to be established before that. Maybe they can debut them breaking Loki out of jail before he tries to make a deal with the elves. Anyway, Eccleston as Malekith sounds amazing. I hope the deal goes through. If it does, Thor 2 should be pretty amazing.

Love him in Shallow Grave. Glad he's become so successful since then.
