Well I watched the original 1990 film last night, I thought it was incredible.
The remake (which I watched today) was pretty good in it's own right although it is better if you try to ignore comparing the two as a lot of things are very different.
Reviews that I have seen for it are well.. not that good, but I enjoyed it. I find that the original is still the better like most films.
Anyone else watched/watching it?

I hate Colin. He's ruined two remakes for me so far, Total recall and Fright Night. He just sucks as an actor to me.

Saw the remake today. Was okay, but nothing more. Never seen the original, probably never will.

The original was great but I was always expecting the remake to be a totally different movie in its own right-so Ill give it a shot.
incidentally I though Farell did a great job in The Fright Night remake.

I enjoyed both but I like the original better. The new one isn't bad but it lacks the charm of the original.

I enjoyed both. I think sans the basic premise, the remake is sort of its own film, which was nice. And the Fright Night remake was better than the original imo, Farrell was awesome in it. I thought he did a great job in the TR remake as well, and are we really going to compare his acting ability to Arnold. I don't understand everyone's love affair with Arnold movies. I watched them all growing up too, but they are campy as sh*t and not a one of them knows how to hold off on the extra dose of cheese that he undoubtedly brings to the table. "See you at the part Richter!" While I love it, it's hardly like they were remaking Schindler's List with this one, and while I think Arnold's version was a great early 90's flick, this Total Recall remake was great for 2012 viewers.
It doesn't take place on Mars? No sh*t. So let me get this straight, the remake, which most hardcore fans of the original didn't want to happen at all, did something different in an effort to disassociate itself from the original, and then, hardcore fans of the original are bitching because it didn't take place on Mars... Yeah, that's how ridiculous I think critics and movie fans are in 2012.

While I understand the reason to put the girl with the three knockers in there as a nod to the original, how does one explain her appearance if there were no mutants in the film? It was still cool to see much like the "two weeks" woman, but outside of the wink and nod, it didn't really fit.

Yeah, that's how ridiculous I think critics and movie fans are in 2012. there's nothing wrong about being somewhat campy IMO There is for people who don't like campy movies. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Arnold flicks, but the guy isn't a great actor. Running Man, Total Recall, True Lies, Last Action Hero, all great movies imo, Eraser, Kindergarten Cop, but It's not like the guy has given an Oscar worthy performance that is so iconic that you could never do it again. And he played a ing robot in the Terminator flicks, lets get serious here. I just don't understand why people get all bent out of shape when a remake happens. 99% of those people go see the remake anyway just so they can come out and say, "the original was better." And it probably was, but when studios remake movies like Total Recall and Fright Night, that are nothing more than Cult Classics, I'm more than willing to see a new interpretation of an old idea. As I said, I thought the Total Recall remake was entertaining, and I thought Fright Night surpassed its original. So I'm more than willing to let these studios give stuff another go round for better or worse. Worst case scenario, it informs people about the original, and the original is still a better film at the end of the day, nothing lost.
