I love Punk, one of my favorites of all time But in no way does he compete currently with many of the talents in DGUSA and PWG. Such as?

First of all, I am a huge Punk fan. I've been watching him since about 2004, and was thrilled when he debuted on ECW in 2006. I've enjoyed everything he's done in his WWE run and I still am enjoying what he does currently. However, I just can't agree with his claims to being the best in the world. Especially Monday when he called himself the best wrestler, talker, and technician. His matches, while entertaining, are pretty much all the same. I know this is the case for most wrestlers. During all of Punk's face run, his matches all followed the same formula as a John Cena match. Take a beating, make a few false comeback spots, and then eventually hit the same exact comeback spot each match(Clothesline, clothesline, duck opponents line into swinging neck breaker, get them in the corner to hit the high knee/bulldog combo, springboard lariat followed by the GTS. Oh and let's not forget the elbow drop which usually looks like crap. As far as being the best talker goes, I do like what he says in the since that he doesn't resort to cheesy one liners and he speaks intelligently. But I don't really care for his same speal each and every week of him just bitching about how he is the best. Best technician? Hell no, not even close. Punk is not much a technician at all. All I'm saying is Punk is good, but he truely is not the best in the world and anyone who thinks he is, is blindly just following him like a sheep. That is all. Couldn't agree more. I understand people are fans of him, but my god, he isn't the best. He will never compare to wrestlers like Michaels, Hart, Taker, Rock and Austin. Punk in my mind is generic.. He surly has an interesting look and gimmic... whoa, it's not a gimmic? No. The Rock was popular for his charisma and over selling everything.

Aside from his new heel gimmick I've always liked punks wrestling and Michael skills.

I posted some reasons why Punk is not the best in the world, but a lot of people on here are bashing his promo ability for it being boring, generic, or repetitive. That's just ridiculous. He's probably THE BEST at promos today, whether it's a shoot style promo like the pipe bombs, or storyline promos like when he was in the SES.
I mean, who else comes close in giving consistently good delivery?? What promos are you all listening to?

Couldn't agree more to be honest. I find him clinging on to this Best in the World Gimmick because without it he hasn't got as much to get over with. If he tags himself as that then they have to bill him as there Champion, it does him favours. But in the Ring I just never find myself engulfed in his Matches. I love some of his Mic work and his realism but honestly the Best in the World could of worked much better with Daniel Bryan. Imagine his Anger Management issues being over everyone not agreeing with him being the Best in the World, and eventually everyone having no choice but to agree when he finally turns face. Just a thought?
But plain and simply, while he may deliver his Matches well and be good to work with, it still doesn't make his Matches thrilling to watch. His standout one will always be MITB last year because there was so much emotion involved. He fails to bring that same emotion to any of his other Matches really. The Rock, Angle, Austin, Michaels however did this constistently. While Punk may be technically more sound than the likes of Rock and Taker, his Matches aren't half as engaging for the fan.

Using "he's a heel" as an excuse for his repetitive/boring promos is hilarious. Punk was churning out some of his best mic work during the SES gimmick (heel), feud with Orton (heel) and weeks before Money in the Bank (heel).

Punk isn't the best in the world, but I also don't think people are sheep if they buy into that, he's pretty up there.

I'm sure he knows he isn't the best. It's just a gimmick. The sad part, is that I'm 100% sure Punk believes every part of what he's saying. Punk really does have a Hogan-sized ego. He's not the best in the world, but he's right at the top when it comes to WWE, behind MAYBE only Daniel Bryan.

If you had been around him while he was still working indies, it really isn't that much of a stretch. The dude is a grade A prick. I respect what he does in the ring, but he's one of the biggest pieces of crap I've ever known in wrestling. He really believes he is better than everyone, and the reason he pulls of his 'best in the world' gimmick so well, is because it's not a gimmick. CM Punk really does believe he is better than everybody else.

I love how this forum went from all over his nuts, to hating him pretty fast. Less than a year?
But that's how WF works. Who's next? Bryan?

Also everyone in this forum is actually the same person... what a twist! Also, I think he has earned the right to be a prick about it tbh. He's worked his ass off to get where he is.

Besides Roode, Aries, Ray, and Daniels from TNA and Daniel Bryan from WWE, no one else is even close to the level of enjoyment I get out of CM Punk. (Current superstars) So to me, at the current time, he IS the Best in the World.

My buddy became an indy wrestler and he has a friend who is in the business who has old PWI magazines with a "Phil Brooks" writing in saying "CM Punk is the best wrestler on the indy scene, do a story on him" So I don't think Punk is really as good as he thinks he is.

I'm not sure if you're saying that he's an elitist who is a douche to everyone, or that he truly believes that he's the best wrestler in the world. Either way, I don't have a problem with the second one.

1:29 - 1:50 sums up my thoughts on Punk. He's a great talent, but he's not as good as he is in his own mind. /Thread

YOUR FRIEND UNCOVERED CM PUNK'S EVIL PLAN TO GET HIMSELF OVER. Even if he wrote that letter (and I strongly doubt that he did, or that this issue of PWI even exists), who gives a damn? Every hard-working indy wrestler that isn't busting his or her ass to get noticed is wasting their time. On a related note, it is equal parts hilarious and pathetic how quickly the WF smark brigade is racing to declare themselves the first to turn on Punk. Funny to see what happens when a hard-working guy (who happens to be great at his job) becomes successful. It reminds me a little of the flood of people that couldn't wait to call Ryder overrated once his well-deserved push ended up winding down. Cringe-worthy and hysterically funny at the same time. You guys know who's next, right?
