I was surprised, a mate told me at work. He had just came to Raw a month before, & I actually met him a few days later. I thought it was far too soon for him.

It was weird for a guy who had only squashed jobbers to all of a sudden beat Cena. Also, everyone thought they botched the spot. In retrospect it made a legit contender and main eventer almost instantly.

I didn't like how he won it or how he was booked as champ... but I hate his current reign and how he won that even more.

I think generally, people -- myself included -- put it right around there with Del Rio. I've said it so many times, but by that point, we didn't have any reason to really take Sheamus (or Del Rio now) seriously as a threat to the title. We just kept being told "yeah, he's a big deal" and having them shoved down our throat. Now, Sheamus has overcome that over time.

I thought it was stupid. The guy was on RAW for like 3 weeks and then they put the WWE Title on him....but it failed miserably because you can't take a rookie and force feed him to people and make him seem important.
Sheamus won the WWE Title in December of 2009....and his career didn't recover to where he was being taken seriously again until mid-2011. His losing streak and "King Sheamus" were MAJOR low points of his career during the tail end of 2010.
It's such a mistake to give a guy the WWE title right away....once you do that, there is nowhere for his career to go but DOWN and anything less than being a World Champion seems like a demotion.
Edge took almost 9 years to win his first World Title. It took HBK 8 years. It took Bret Hart 8 years. Hell, even Steve Austin and the Rock took almost 3 years to win their first World Titles.....
You have to build these guys up, have the fans get used to them, have them win the undercard titles first to show their importance (IC, Tag Team), THEN you have them win the World Title in their PEAK.
You can have a really over guy be a successful Champion, but you can NOT just slap a title on a guy who isn't ready and make him appear important, you're just going to make the belt seem LESS important.

i have never enjoyed anything to do with sheamus. goofy crap same here. Third it. Heel, face, vs Cena, or Bryan or ADR, it just doesn't matter. I think they continue to "tell us" Sheamus is great but I don't think their is anything he does that is particularly great or special. I remember disliking him winning because I thought he undeservingly "skipped the line." He was on ECW for 10 minutes, Raw for 10 minutes, and then he became WWE Champion. Didn't make sense to me, even at the expense of taking the title off Cena. My opinion hasn't ever changed on the guy, and he has been my least favorite World Champion in years.

He's a much better heel. Liked a dominate heel going after Cena. Now he a chump face.

I wanted the title off of Cena by any means... but not like that. Doesn't the company make most of their decisions based around how much money they can make off of something? Well, here's how I see it when they gave the title to Sheamus:
The world title scene should be where the money is at, and they took it off of their moneymaker and hotshotted it onto someone who had BARELY been on the main roster for half a year... and on Raw for a lot less than that. Once again concerning money, they gave the title to a guy who they had absolutely NO merchandise at the time. If I remember correctly, his first figure didn't even come out for another few months. Just coming from a business standpoint, it was a HORRIBLE decision.

I was happy that the title was finally off of Cena/Orton/HHH, so naturally I marked out when it happened.
Sheamus himself though, I wasn't that keen on. And I've especially soured on him this year.

I thought it was a complete and total joke.
I still think it hurt Sheamus, character wise, in the long run.

I'm just glad Sheamus recovered from that terribly booked reign. His recent run on SmackDown has been great, even if you don't like his character, you got to admit he's had some pretty awesome matches.

I was truly pissed. We didn't even know who the guy was. He just joined the RAW brand, beat up announcers, retired Jamie Noble, won a Battle Royal and then suddenly he's our WWE Champion? Ugh.
Now though, Sheamus is one of my favorites. He's been absolutely terrific for the last couple of years tbh.

I was pissed tbh. Crappy way to end a title run. Felt the same way when Cody lost the IC title.

Most of you are saying you didn't like it are full of it. You all wanted the belt off a Cena, and didn't care who got it. Although the finish made Cena still look good, it made Sheamus look fairly weak.

At the time, I remember being pleased, because I thought it was just going to be another guy for Cena to plow through. Not only was a wrong, he had an entertaining title reign to, from what I remember.
