I wasn't on Wrestling figs at the time so I akways wondered what this boards reaction was when Sheamus won the title back in 2009. Was the reaction angry, happy or mixed?

It was rather mixed. Some were happy for the fact that it was something new, some were angered that Sheamus had done nothing relatively major in the company to warrant a WWE Championship reign.

I remember a lot of people saying it was an accident... saying that Cena and he were supposed to fall through the tables simultaneously

Some loved it cause it was new. I was a fan of Sheamus and was really looking forward to see where it was going. About half though were ticked. I don't blame them. Shelton Benjamin was never given a main event push and Sheamus hadn't even really been considered a threat to even a midcard title.

I wasn't too bothered. It was someone other than Cena with the title for once

I hated it and to this day I still do. If I could go back and change a WWE Title win I would probably keep that one from happening. There was no need for him to win his 1st championship via slip and fall.

I didnt even know who the hell Sheamus was when I first heard the news. I did because I had met him locally when Irish Whip Wrestling did a show in our town.....he was great with my Godson(and all the kids) after the show.he was Sheamus O Shaughnessy The Irish Curse then. couldnt believe it when I read he was the WWE champ....was delighted it was off Cena but didnt think he was ready at all.

Honestly, I hated it. It just didn't feel right and I think his second reign as WWE champion was much better and thought out. Since then, Sheamus has grown on me tremendously and ever since John Morrison was released he's been my favorite guy on the roster.

Honestly I wasn't that excited - I thought it was kind of ridiculous. I remember a lot of the Irish were excited though.

I was very pleased. It was a very welcome new face that appeared to have full backing till the finish of that match. Reign sucked but there really wasn't any need for him to go through the motions of the mid card at the time that so many others are cast in to and get left to fester, very few actually move through and up the card in recent years, so it was the right place for him to be.

Didn't bother me one bit. I enjoyed it. But it was nothing compared to how much I'm enjoying his current run.

I just remember being confused as to why Cena threw himself through the table. At least that was what it looked like anyway. I don't know what they were actually going for. That he slipped and fell? Sheamus pushed him? It didn't really look like either one of those.

I recall a lot of people didnt like it because he was only in the company for 6 months, wrestled about 20 matches on TV with most of them against jobbers
