literally just came across this picture minutes ago...anyone know the story behind this? was the KOTR tournament win meant to be a form of a "Championship"? just something to be given to the winner each year instead of the cape and crown? something to perhaps actually be defended?

UPDATE:
found out that apparently this belt was made for "King" Mabel in 1995. obviously never used,it's purpose remains a mystery, much less why it was never used...

Mabel had it custom made for himself. WWF had nothing to do with it thus why it was never shown or defended

found out the full story of this... 1st off, here's a pic of the full belt plates: and Mabel with the belt,in his Viscera days: now the info: the belt was made by Reggie Parks,and...it's not an official belt. it was a custom job Mabel had done for him by Reggie after winning the KOTR. guess his own, personal "Trophy" from it. it was NOT a WWF sanctioned or authorized title belt. i don't know if he actually had in made in 95, or if it was later ,around 1999 forward ( as per the Viscera with the belt pic).

Very cool (except for the flags).
I like it a lot more than the cheesy crown, cape and scepter.

That belt looks great! The flags don't really make much sense in regards to it being a WWF only tournament, but I think they make the belt look even cooler

Wow that is very cool. It would have been interesting to have the KOTR win a belt since they would carry it around for a year. Mabel has got to be the worst KOTR winner ever though...

Wow, this picture and story has been out there forever. I'm surprised that a lot of you never knew this. But chalk it up to "learn something new everyday". I think Vis sold this belt on Ebay a while back ago. Did you know about this title belt? This was suppose to be the WWE US Title belt. It was going to be sponsored by McDonald's. So whoever announced the champion would have to say: "and their opponent, from wherever and weighing whatever the McDonald's United States Champion...so and so!" It was THIS close to happening. But then the Benoit incident put a stop to it. Then this belt was going to takes it's place: But people thought that was too silly and wouldn't be believable. Just like my story!

Whats the with weird WWF logo I actually like it. -I think the flags should of been just WWF block logo on both sides. And I'm also surprised that not many of you know about this.

Whats the with weird WWF logo The reall WWF logo has a copywrite on it and since it was a personal belt they wouldn't let him use it. Makes sense.

Mabel never defended the title on any WWF cards, but I believe he did defend the title a few times on the indy scene. COuld be wrong but I remember reading about it a decade or so ago.

That was my thinking, the belt was made so he had a niche on the indy scene off of his WWF fame. Somewhere there are pictures of Vis with the belt at an indy show from the late 90's.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I could have sworn I've seen pictures of King Mabel with the belt. As I think in 1996 when Mabel eventually left the WWF, he toured the indy scene with the belt.

I would personally put Billy Gunn, Don Muraco and Ken Shamrock ahead of him as worse KOTR winners. Maybe Shamrock is neck and neck with him but at least Mabel could be take as a legit threat to a top face/world champ (ala feud with Taker)....Gunn and Muraco...not so much.
