What if Hulk Hogan lost the title at Wrestlemania 3 to Andre the Giant? How would Vince work around the Giant's health problems? How could Hulk make a comeback from his first loss? Would people even watch wrestling after this one? What happens to the Main Event in 1988 and Wrestlemania 4? Find out what happens to a feud that will change the face of the World Wrestling Federation forever. Quick Backstory: Hulk Hogan won a trophy for holding the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship for three years, as presented on Piper's Pit in early 1987. Despite Andre getting a smaller trophy that honoured his supposedly undefeated fifteen-year career (without a world championship), the Giant allied himself with Bobby Heenan as his new manager and challenged Hulk Hogan for the title at Wrestlemania 3. From promos and contract signings to press conferences and piper's pit, the first confrontation (from WWF's point of view though they had wrestled many times before) is considered by many to be the biggest match in the history of professional wrestling. This was more than just brother versus brother, this was the student versus the master, this was the Unstoppable Force meeting the Immovable Object; Hulkamania versus the Giant. No one knew who would win, Andre was the one with the upper hand it seemed. So here we go to a legendary feud and a build up to a big finale!Note: (c) denotes Champion Wrestlemania III, March 29, 1987 Pontiac Silverdome, Pontiac, Michigan 93,173 in Attendance Announcers: Gorilla Monsoon and Jesse Ventura Hulk Hogan (c) vs Andre the Giant (with Bobby Heenan) for the WWF ChampionshipHulk and Andre are in a staredown in the ring, Hulk Hogan begins to hulk up to Jesse's famous "he's already hulking up!" comment. They exchange words till Andre makes the first move for a punch, Hulk blocks and strikes Andre three times. Hulk goes to the ropes and clotheslines the Giant, but the Giant barely moves an inch. Hulk goes to another rope and tries to hit a clothesline to Andre who moves back a step. Hulk tries a third time till he meets the Big Boot from Andre. Hogan is badly hurt, Andre screams "get up!" Hulk finally gets up but Andre hits a body slam. Andre screams again "get up!" Hogan struggles but gets up again for Andre to toss Hogan to a turnbuckle hard. Hogan is already in agony as there is silence amongst the crowd. Hogan falls on his knees as he reaches for the ropes. Andre grabs a hold of Hogan and swings him to the ropes for another Big Boot to the face. Andre hits the elbow drop and goes for the pin. Jesse screams "this one's over!" Hogan's shoulders are up at two. Andre argues with the referee as Hogan struggles to his feet. Andre headbutts Hogan, but Hogan gets angry, Andre headbutts Hogan again but Hogan starts to hulk up briefly. The Giant hits a chop to the chest and a chokehold to Hogan. The referee counts to four till the Giant lets go and tosses Hulk out of the ring. Andre gets out of the ring and Hogan pushes the Giant to the turnbuckle face first. The Giant is hurt as the crowd cheers. Hogan gets in the ring. Jesse screams out "he's trying to get a count out!" Bobby Heenan screams at Andre to get back in. Hogan awaits in the ring as the Giant gets in. Hogan goes to the ropes and tries a clothesline, but the Giant won't fall. Hogan tries again till Andre counters with a bearhug. Squeezing Hogan who starts to faint, the referee makes a three arm count to two as Hogan starts to Hulk up. Hogan headbutts the Giant three times till Andre lets go. Andre tosses a tired Hogan to the ropes for the big boot but misses as Hogan ducks and runs to the ropes for a big clothesline as Andre falls hard on the mat. Gorilla says "the bigger they are the harder they fall Jesse!" Heenan screams at Andre to get up, but Andre is in a lot of pain. Hogan is hurt, but starts to hulk up a bit. Andre finally gets up and Hogan goes for the bodyslam. As Hogan picks the Giant halfway, Hulk's back gives out and falls on the mat with the weight of the Giant over him. The crowd is in shock as the referee goes for the pin. At three Hogan has his shoulder's up, but the referee looks and gives the signal for the bell. Winner: Andre the Giant and New WWF Heavyweight Champion.Andre moves out of the way from Hogan without realizing what had happened. Bobby Heenan is celebrating as he grabs a hold of the World Title from celebrity bell ringer Mary Hart on his way in the ring. Hogan is badly hurt and Jesse and Gorilla are arguing whether it was a two count or three. This begins a "controversial three count". Hogan finally is on his feet and argues with the referee that he had his shoulders up, but the referee says it's a three count. Andre is on his feet as Heenan hands over the WWF Championship belt. Andre is finally aware he is the new champion and celebrates, holding the title belt folded in his hands up high. The crowd boos as celebrity Bob Uecker makes the announcement with Hogan and fans watching closely "and the winner of the match, and new World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion, Andre the Giant!" The crowd boos as they throw things in the ring as Heenan and Andre continue to celebrate in the ring. Hogan walks out unto the "ring-platform" in tears, with his head down, shaking his head in disbelief that he lost the WWF championship.

Superstars of Wrestling, April 4th, 1987 Dayton, OH Announcers: Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura
Wrestlemania 3 highlights are shown as well as showing Andre's victory. Hulk Hogan has an interview backstage with Mean Gene Okerland in the locker room during Wrestlemania 3, taped for the Superstars broadcast. Mean Gene: It has been my pleasure all these years to interview this man, but I did not expect this man without the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship this evening. Hulk Hogan, you have lost the championship to Andre the Giant, I must know...the world must know just how you feel this night.
Hulk (in tears walking back and forth): What was Joey Marella (referee) thinking brother! My god what was he thinking! Ah man...(calms down) Well you know something Mean Gene, I've been through the mountaintop brother, I've beaten the biggest and best, but this was a steal. I had my shoulders up mean gene, I had my shoulders up at two. I heard the count, but with the giant over me, I just knew that the referee didn't see. The fans saw it, all my little Hulkamaniacs know it that I kicked out at two.
Gene: Well Hulk I'm sure we can get someone to review footage from the match, but the referee did make the three count and awarded your opponent the championship.
Hulk: I'll be sure to petition to Jack Tunney brother, but it doesn't end here. I want a rematch, I want a chance to meet with Andre the Giant again. Only this time I will train harder, harder than I ever have before mean gene and when I get my hands on the giant, I promise you hulkamaniacs, I promise that when it's all over, I will slam that two-faced giant and win back what belongs to me.
Gene: Well there you have it folks, Hulk Hogan is issuing his challenge for a rematch for the WWF Championship.Vince McMahon announces that next week on Superstars of Wrestling, WWF President Jack Tunney will be making an official announcement regarding the controversial three-count at the end of the main event at Wrestlemania 3.

Superstars of Wrestling, April 11th, 1987 Las Vegas, Nevada Announcers: Vince McMahon and Jesse VenturaOfficial Video Statement from Jack Tunney: As President of the World Wrestling Federation, it was my duty to take close consideration to Hulk Hogan's petition of the controversial three-count at Wrestlemania 3, in which referee Joey Marella had made a decision to award the World Wrestling Federation Championship to Andre the Giant. The referee must make corrent actions and decisions in the ring, and it was Joey Marella who has explained that he still stands with his decision. It has come to my attention that after careful review of the footage that was provided by our internal studio, that Hulk Hogan did have his shoulder's up. However after further review, it was difficult to determine the timing of when Mr. Hulk Hogan was meant to break count. It is therefore my decision to stand with the referee and that Hulk Hogan did in fact lose the match by pinfall to Andre the Giant. However, after discussions with WWF officials, we have decided to award Mr. Hulk Hogan a rematch for the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship at a later date.

Hulk Hogan Promo: (shaking his head in disappointment) I cannot believe that Jack Tunney and the World Wrestling Federation has made this decision man. I can't believe it (takes a deep breath). So I have finally lost, and maybe it was time that I did. My fellow Hulkamaniacs, I let you down. I let the world down at Wrestlemania 3. But not this time man, not this time. Tunney, you may have rewarded me a chance at a rematch, but I want it now man. I want the chance to beat the Giant so I am opening up a challenge to you Andre the Giant, on May 2nd, at Saturday Night's Main Event, as you get yourself crowned your new giant-sized belt that same night, I say give it back to Tunney because I challenge you brother for the World Wrestling Federation Championship! What you're gonna do Andre the Giant, when the largest pythons in the world brother and Hulkamania runs wild on you!

You have such a big mouth Hogan. You know how many times you wrestled guys who had there shoulder's up or foot on the rope and the WWF let you slide with the championship win? You don't see them crying now do you? I'm sick of you Hogan, so tell you what, I have a big surprise for you at Saturday Night's Main Event. Oh yeah Hogan, It's a huge surprise. The world will finally know that Hulk Hogan shot himself in the foot by issuing out this challenge. Oh and as for Andre, he'll be ready for you. So tell you what, you sit at home hurt and whining and crying and continue to say your prayers, because man...you'll need them (laughs). Hulk Hogan Promo (response):What are you afraid of Bobby Heenan? You twisted the Giant's mind from the very beginning man, now what games are you playing now? You know something Hulkamaniacs, I've been training harder these past weeks, I'm more than ready for whatever "surprise" Heenan has man. Saturday Night's Main Event, May 2nd, 1987 Joyce Center, South Bend, Indiana 9,345 in Attendance Announcers: Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura
[beginning of the show] The ring is setup with red carpeting and an encasing with the new belt on a table in the centre as Andre the Giant (no belt with him) makes his way out with Bobby Heenan with much heat. Jack Tunney is in the middle of the ring as Andre enters the ring with Heenan. Tunney: Welcome Mr. Heenan, welcome Andre...I would like to congratulate you on your win at Wrestlemania 3. You are still undefeated and I would like to say that the belt has been refit again with additional...
Heenan: [grabs the mic] Let's just cut to the chase, get that belt out!
Tunney: [takes the mic back] Very well Mr. Heenan [Tunney takes out the new giant-sized belt and passes it over to Heenan. Heenan places it around the waist of Andre who has a smirk over his face.] Congratulations once again.
Andre poses to the crowd till "a Real American" music starts playing. Hulk Hogan walks out to a huge pop and enters the ring. He grabs a hold of the mic from Tunney and starts talking as Andre stands motionless.
Hogan: You know what I noticed these past few weeks, where has Andre been all this time? I'm wondering has Andre even defended the title in the last month Mr. Tunney?
Heenan: [Tunney takes the mic as Heenan speaks out] You don't know what you're talking about. How could this man defend the championship with the belt the size of your head? He needs a real championship belt, one that fits the size of a giant.
Hogan: I'm not talking to you! Tunney, I'm asking you the question here!
Tunney: Mr. Hulk Hogan, Heenan may have a point, but you are right. A champion should be on a schedule...
Heenan: Hold just a minute Tunney, since you both want to go this road...first you Hulk Hogan, you talk about a rematch, well guess what, I suppose your cheap thrifty lawyers forgot to tell you or remind you that the contract you signed doesn't guarantee you a rematch. [Hogan looks puzzled] In fact you can't have a rematch for at least six months! [the crowd boos]
Tunney: I believe that is correct.
Heenan: [pointing at Tunney] I think you forgot Mr. Tunney that when you signed Andre the Giant's contract to return to the World Wrestling Federation, you must have forgotten Paragraph 21 on Page 2, which was part of the negotiations made with my client and the WWF.
Tunney: I don't recall at this moment.
Heenan: Well how about I clear this up for you, [takes out a piece of paper from his jacket pocket and takes out his reading glasses] I have here a copy of the contract...ah here it is. It states here that "At anytime Mr. Roussimoff may request vacation time, regardless of schedule events or championship committments for up to a maximum of twenty weeks for every three years." [crowd boos]
Hogan: Wait what are you trying to say Heenan?
Tunney: I will be sure to take a look at the contract to confirm, however Andre if this is the case you must make this request formally.
Andre: [walks up to Tunney] I want my vacation...now (laughs)
Hogan: What kind of nonsense is this Tunney? Andre man, Andre? Is this the kind of champion you want to be? The kind of champion that hides? No Andre, now I know how black your heart truly is man. Andre pushes Hogan and as Hogan tries to strike at Andre, Andre starts to chokehold on Hogan. Andre continues to squeeze on as Tunney is trying to call for help. Andre laughs as Heenan shouts "squeeze the life out of him!" Vince is screaming out "come on someone back there get out there and help the man!" Several officials run in, but they can barely even get the Giant to break the hold as he puts more pressure on Hogan who is out cold. Several wrestlers start running in to break the hold but they barely can. Andre starts to laugh and finally lets go after five minutes. Hogan is taken on a stretcher immediately. Andre leaves the ring with the WWF Championship around his waist.

I've seen this thread and the Bad News Brown thread. Sadly I haven't read them yet but I do plan too. It looks like you've got all the makings for a really good diary. It's great to see you posting so often but I would wait a few days between posts that way you can wait for replies. Just save the other posts and post them later. As an idea (you don't have to follow it) If you like doing smaller stories like the Bad News Brown one you could just keep them all in one thread. A thread full of short stories, its something I've wanted to do. Good luck.

Prime Time Wrestling, May 11th, 1987 Hosts: Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "the Brain" HeenanStarts off with clips of what happened at Saturday Night's Main Event (also shown on May 9th episode of Superstars). Gorilla Monsoon: No new word from Hulk Hogan, all we know is that he will be back in action very soon and that is good news (Superstars also mentioned this)
Bobby Heenan: Who cares about Hulk Hogan, he shouldn't have jumped at Andre like that.
Gorilla: What do you mean jump? Andre attacked Hogan first!
Bobby: Oh don't give me that
Gorilla: Now as for Andre, since I have you here beside me, tell me now, has he really taken a vacation?
Bobby: I wouldn't call it a vacation, the man needs some rest. He just went through the biggest match of his career and won the championship. Fifteen years undefeated, on and off the road time and time again, don't you think he deserves this time off?
Gorilla: I do, but not while you're the World's Heavyweight Champion! And he has an obligation to continue to defend that championship of his. In fact one such challenger is the former Intercontinental Champion, Macho Man Randy Savage, who has this to say about Andre:

I'm liking this. At 7 years old, when this really happened, I was not (and never was) a Hogan fan. I wondered what it'd be like if Andre had won the belt. Plus, if they actually made an extra large championship belt, they'd have it to give to guys like Yokozuna in the future.
Good job. Anxious for more.

Actually they did make the belt it was shown on Piper's Pit and it was presented to Andre by Tunney because Heenan had ordered it and it further built the storyline that Hogan may have no hope at all. Superstars of Wrestling, May 16th, 1987 Worcester, Maine Announcers: Vince McMahon and Jesse VenturaInterview with Hulk Hogan on the Snake Pit (first time on Superstars as it was originally on Wrestling Challenge). Jake the Snake Roberts starts talking about Andre the Giant and how he extended an invitation to Andre to appear on the Snake Pit. He talks about how Andre chickened out and took the easy way out and how a true Champion is supposed to continue to defend his championship against all contenders. Jake calls out for Andre to no avail as the crowd boos. Jake expected this and out comes the former champion, Hulk Hogan to a huge pop. Jake: Welcome to the pit Hogan!
Hogan: Oh I know what the pit is all about, I know what Jake the Snake is all about and this man means business.
Jake: Absolutely, but first of all I must ask, you see there was a rumour going around backstage...see a lot of guys in the back think that Hulkamania has come to a close after you were nearly choked to death by the hands of the Giant. Hogan, I must know, are you planning a retirement?
Hogan: [pauses and thinks] you see Jake I... [Hogan is interupted as Bobby Heenan walks out]
Heenan: Well well Mr Hulk Hogan, just go right ahead because I have to see this. If this truly is your retirement well I gotta say please, go ahead.
Hogan: As I was saying...
Heenan: What you were saying that you just can't handle loss, that you're afraid and that you were always full of yourself from the very beginning.
Hogan: Let me tell you something brother!
Heenan: No let me tell you something, as Andre is on his way to a nice long vacation as he deserves as World Champion, I just signed on a man who I have managed before. A man you know very well. [Out comes King Harley Race with his crown over his head to a lot of heat] You see Hogan, I don't want you to retire. I want you to continue to wrestle, you know why? Because I think Hulkamania is on life support and this man will prove to the world that your done, that Hulk Hogan's days are coming to an end.
Jake: Hogan, what do you think, will you challenge the man to a match?
Hogan: [shakes his head] I'm out of here. [Hogan leaves the pit]
Jake: Whoa. Hogan wait, Bobby you got a big mouth you know that.
Heenan: I told you he was a coward. [Pointing out at the crowd] Where is your hero now? Hogan is done, he's finished! Hulkamania is finished! Hogan runs out into the pit and attacks Harley Race from behind with the crown falling on the floor and Race's hands reaches the centre pit with Damien moving about. Harley looks at the snake and screams as he falls on his back. Heenan walks back with his hands out begging, Hogan takes the mic and says "Just as you screamed infront of the python, when you face the largests pythons in the world brother, you'll be more afraid for your life. I accept your challenge! As for you Weasel, it'll take a lot more than a King to bring me down brother." Hogan leaves as Heenan tries to help Harley up.

Superstars of Wrestling, May 23rd, 1987 Special Memorial Day Edition Anaheim, California Announcers: Vince McMahon and Jesse VenturaVince and Jesse talk early on during the event that many wrestlers are now asking Bobby Heenan to be there manager as he has brought a championship to Andre and that he has become the most wanted manager of all time. Hulk Hogan vs. King Harley Race (with Bobby Heenan)Hulk enters the ring first to a huge pop as Vince says that Hogan has made his first return to the ring (a short clip of Hogan being squeezed out by Andre from Saturday Night's Main Event is shown). Harley Race makes his way out with his cape and crown with Bobby Heenan by his side. Harley takes two minutes going around the ring, wanting the crowd to bow to him as Hogan is frustrated, Hogan jumps out of the ring and attacks race, throwing the crown on the floor and tossing Race into the ring. The bell rings Hogan tosses Race to a turnbuckle face first (with cape on) as he bounces back and falls on the mat. Hogan starts his ear pose and grabs a hold of Race and throws off the cape. Hogan body slams Race. Race leaves the ring and Hogan grabs a hold of the cape and wears it as he taunts Race, walking around the ring as though he was king. Vince laughs as Jesse says "this makes me sick McMahon." Race runs into the ring as Hogan's back is turned, he attacks Hogan quickly, takes off the cape and throws it out of the ring. Race swings Hogan to the ropes and hits a clothesline. Race lifts Hogan for the piledriver, but Hogan counters by kicking Race in the head as Race falls on his left side. Hogan tries to get up on his knees but Race pulls the Head Scissors for submission. Hogan manages to escape, Race gets up at the same time as Hogan and hits a headbutt on Hogan, but Hogan feels no pain. Hogan begins to hulk up, Race tries to attack Hogan but isn't able to hurt him. Race decides to leave the ring. Hogan can't believe what he's seeing as Race is giving up already and walks out of the ring and grabs a hold of Race, hits a punch and tosses him back into the ring. Race gets up quickly as Hogan gets in and Race starts to kick Hogan down. Grabbing a hold of Hogan, he hits a belly to belly suplex on the big guy. Jesse is amazed he could do this and Race goes for the pin for two. Bobby gets frustrated and enters the ring with the crown. Trying to hit Hogan with it, Hogan gets out of the way (Race standing behind him) and Bobby hits Race by accident. The referee stops the match. Hogan grabs a hold of both men and slams them head-first as they roll and fall out of the ring. The announcer makes the announcement "and the winner of the match by disqualification, King Harley Race." Winner: King Harley Race via Disqualification. The crowd boos big time, Hogan can't believe it and he starts to argue with the referee and actually tosses the referee out of the ring pleasing the crowd. Jesse: "Did you see that McMahon? Hogan should be fired for his actions." Vince responds in disagreement and says it was a "stupid decision by the referee (as clearly Hogan was being targeted)". Bobby and Race are out of the ring arguing with Hogan (who is still in the ring and shouting at them). Heenan laughs at Hogan and raises Race's hand as the winner of the match as the night ends.

Prime Time Wrestling, May 25th, 1987 Hosts: Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "the Brain" HeenanHighlights are shown from the Hulk vs. Race match for Memorial Day. Heenan: Well there you have it, Hulkamania is on life support and I proved it. Gorilla: I wouldn't say that Heenan, Hulk Hogan had this to say about the match. ***Promo***Hulk Hogan: Once again! Once again I got screwed over by a referee! But why should I point my fingers man? We all know about the controversial three-count at Wrestlemania 3. But you don't see me whining about it any longer. The bottom line is the next time we meet Harley Race, the next time we enter the squared circle brother, you'll face the wrath of these 24 inch pythons [shows his left arm], so what you're going to do your highness, when Hulkamania runs wild on you! [poses]Heenan: No wonder Hogan is upset, Jack Tunney has fined Hulk Hogan for assaulting a referee. Sooner or later that man is going to lose a lot more than money. Gorilla: Hulk was right it was a bad decision. Heenan: Why are you defending him? You of all people should know that you shouldn't assault a referee. Gorilla: Oh come on give me a break, you mean to tell me that none of those who you've managed before have never touched an official? Heenan: So what you don't want to admit that your precious Hulk Hogan was wrong? Gorilla: I do admit that as a fact and Hulk Hogan shouldn't have thrown the referee out of the ring. Heenan: I'm glad Tunney is doing his job for a change, I've got a lot to say to Mr. Hulk Hogan though Gorilla: Looks like you aren't doing yours...we still got a show on here and much more when we return from a commercial break. ***Second half of show***Gorilla: Alright we got some exclusive photos just sent to me and you're going to love this Bobby. Heenan: What photos, what are you talking about? Gorilla: These are photos captured by fans of Andre the Giant on his vacation. Heenan: Photos? What Photos, look Tunney has given him the time off so people should just back off. Gorilla: Take a look at this [Andre in Paris at a cafe] Heenan: So he's enjoying the romantic city and sipping on coffee so what. Gorilla: Here is another picture of Andre, this time the fan claims that Andre was in Canada [Andre near the CN Tower] Heenan: Canada, Canada? Who would want to go to that place? As soon as you reach the airport they ask you to set your watches back twenty years. Gorilla: Oh give me a break, Canada is a nice place to visit so are you claiming he wasn't in Canada? Where is he now Heenan? Heenan: That isn't any of your concern. Gorilla: Well here is a picture of Andre in the Bahamas, looking like he is on a beach with several women wow...let's say this picture is inappropriate for television. Heenan: Let me see that [looks at the photo and tears it apart]. No one saw that. Gorilla: Well wherever you are Andre, I hope you enjoy your vacation because WWF Superstars are waiting for a shot at Championship gold.

Superstars of Wrestling, June 6th, 1987 Anaheim, California Announcers: Vince McMahon and Jesse Ventura
Snake's Pit - Macho Man Randy Savage with Elizabeth are the guests for the show, Randy says he wants a title shot against Andre as soon as he makes a return from vacation. Rematch: Hulk Hogan vs. King Harley Race (with Bobby Heenan) - Bow and Kneel MatchThe rules are simple, the loser of the match must bow down to their opponent. Hulk Hogan enters the ring first. King Harley Race makes an entrance with Bobby Heenan. Race enters the ring and poses his crown and cape with a new sceptre in his hand as Hogan has his back arguing with Bobby Heenan on the outside asking "where is Andre?" Harley attacks Hogan with the sceptre over the head as it breaks apart and Hogan bleeds. The bell rings and the referee checks up on Hogan. Harley starts the attack (tossing his cape and crown to Heenan) and beats on the back of Hulk's head as Hogan struggles to get up. Harley Race hits a battering ram on Hogan who falls on the mat. Race goes for the quick pin as Hulk's leg is on the ropes for the two count. Race grabs a hold of Hogan and tries a vertical suplex on Hogan, but Hogan's weight is too much for him and Hogan lands on Race for the two count. Race is frustrated already and starts to beat on Hogan to release more blood. Hogan is up and Race does a scoop slam on Hogan. Jesse says "look at the strength of Race!" Race goes for an Indian Death Lock on Hogan for the submission. Hogan is in a lot of pain already and Jesse says "Hogan's going to give up McMahon!" Hogan struggles and nearly faints, but as the fans begin to chear for Hulk, Hogan shouts and starts to hulk up and gets out of the hold. Race can't believe it and starts to attack Hogan's legs. Hulk gets up on his feet till Race picks Hogan up for the piledriver and delivers. Race pins Hogan for the two count as Hogan has his shoulders up and the referee decides to accept it as a two count though Race begins to argue it was a three count. Hogan finds Race arguing as Heenan screams out to look behind only for Hogan to strike at Race who falls out of the ring. Outside of the ring, Hogan decides to do a piledriver on Race on the concrete. Heenan attacks Hogan with a chair. Hogan lets go of Race and chases after Heenan. Heenan runs in the ring as well as Hogan and starts begging for his life in a corner. Hogan points his finger at Heenan till Race gets back in and hits a high knee strike on Hogan. Hogan falls (Heenan leaves the ring) and Race does a belly to belly suplex for the pin. Hogan kicks out at two. Race is frustrated now and begins to attack Hogan's head for more blood till Hogan starts a chokehold on Race. Squeezing hard, Hogan continues till the referee goes for the five count. Winner: King Harley Race via DisqualificationHogan continues to squeeze and screams out "Andre! Andre! Andre!" WWF Officials start running into the ring to break the hold as the crowd goes silent. Hogan finally breaks the hold and looks at what his hands had done. He goes on his knees and prays to the big guy upstairs and begins to stare at his hands and as the blood continues to rush down his head he faints as officials try to wake up Hogan to end the night.

Superstars of Wrestling, June 20th, 1987 Buffalo, New York Announcers: Vince McMahon and Jesse VenturaSnake's Pit - Jake the Snake Roberts begins to talk about the recent sightings of Andre in Cancun and India. He talks about how Andre was invited for dinner with the King of Jordan just last week. He says Andre has been everywhere, but it's now time for him to come home, to come back and defend the World Wrestling Federation Championship. Jake says everyone in the back and the fans around the world are sick and tired of seeing the Champion running around the world and that's exactly what Andre is doing, running away from the one man who had a chance in defeating him; Hulk Hogan (crowd cheers). Jake: My first guest on the show is Jack Tunney (mixed reactions from the crowd) Tunney: Thank you for having me. Jake: Let's get to the bottom of this, Jack everyone wants to know when will you bring back Andre the Giant? Tunney: We have looked into the contract and unfortunately he has a case in regards to his vacation time and keeping the World Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Championship. Jake: Isn't there a way Tunney, just isn't there a way perhaps, perhaps Andre could have someone substitute for him? Doesn't the title have to be defended regardless? Tunney: We would have to look into that as a possibility, but it has been a tradition here at the World Wrestling Federation that no Champion can have a substitute. [what is this hockey McMahon? asks Jesse] Jake: Well what about stripping the title from Andre? Don't you think it's time for a change, can't you suits figure out a loophole? Tunney: Unfortunately we cannot strip the title because it could constitute a breach of contract. Jake: Contracts contracts, that's all we've been hearing here. We want to see results, we want to see you suits do something about Andre. Tunney: As soon as Andre the Giant makes his return from vacation, we will ensure that he will have his first title defense and to make it clear, if he doesn't wish to wrestle he will have to forfeit the title. Jake: Thank you Tunney [leaves], as for my next guest, it's the former WWF Champion I bring you Hulk Hogan! Hogan: [walks out] Glad to be back here Jake: Glad to have you back, but I want to be straight with you Hogan. Race has been out of action ever since to put that chokehold and I must know, what went in your mind at that moment. [clip shown from the match] Hogan: I don't know man, at that same moment, as the blood began to flow from my veins I just knew man, it was like a flashback brother. I wanted to get my hands on Andre and I know what I did. Jake: You could have killed the man. Hogan: So would have Andre, when he lay his hands over my neck [pauses and takes a deep breath], Andre man [laughs] Andre where are you man?! Jake: Your time will come Hulk. Hogan: But that's the thing brother, when man? Am I losing it? Jake: You're Hulkamaniacs are with you Hogan (fans cheer), I just know you're only human. They all know that, you're only human. Hogan: And that's why Jake! That's why men like us have to keep going man, that's why we all have to keep going till it's done, till the last sweat, the last breath because Andre the Giant, you can hide all you want brother, but when you return there is no turning back, no place to go, because Hulk Hogan will be there brother, all my Hulkamaniacs will be ready for you! [rips his shirt and leaves]

Prime Time Wrestling, July 6th, 1987 Hosts: Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby "the Brain" Heenan.
Statement from WWF President Jack Tunney: I have heard the rumours about Andre the Giant wrestling a match in Japan, unfortunately there isn't sufficient evidence to suggest that Andre did have an actual match and placed the Championship on the line as the World Wrestling Federation will have to further investigate with officials of Wrestling promotions in Japan. Please note that there were no negotiations made between the World Wrestling Federation and said promotions for such a match.
As for the strong protest from WWF Superstars and fans from around the world in regards to Andre's vacation and the WWF Heavyweight Championship, the World Wrestling Federation is planning a special Saturday Night's Main Event, live on NBC in East Rutherford, New Jersey in the Meadowlands on August 1st. The purpose of this special event is to determine who will be the No. 1 Contender to face Andre the Giant for the WWF Heavyweight Championship upon Andre's return to the ring.
To find a new No. 1 Contender, a special elimination tournament will be held with the top sixteen WWF Superstars who will fight for the right to become known as the No. 1 contender for the Heavyweight Championship. We will be announcing these Superstars next week on the Snake Pit for Superstars of Wrestling.
As in regards to Hulk Hogan, due to his Wrestlemania 3 contract, he will not be able to participate in the event. However, Hulk Hogan will have a chance to wrestle that same night.
As for us here at the World Wrestling Federation, we thank WWF Superstars and its fans for there patience and co-operation. Gorilla: Well there you have it folks, President Jack Tunney has announced an elimination tournament on August 1st to determine who will face Andre the Giant for the WWF Heavyweight Championship. This is going to be one exciting event don't you think Brain? Bobby: What's exciting is that Hulk Hogan won't be in the tournament, I love it! Gorilla: Well what about that match with Andre in Japan. Bobby: What match? Gorilla: You know, the match he had in Japan? Bobby: You heard Tunney, there was no match. The guy's on vacation, why would he wrestle now? Gorilla: $50,000 is a lot of money, but I heard that was just for a title shot, he won the match and got a $100,000 prize. What's worse is that he gave you that $100,000 prize. Bobby: [jumps on his seat] if he do you think I would be on this show with you right now? Gorilla: Well from what I hear, Jake the Snake has more evidence. Bobby: They're all rumours Gorilla, all rumours. Everyone is so desperate to get a title shot, do they forget who has the Championship? Do they forget that the man's 7 foot 5, 520 pounds? They shouldn't be so anxious to face the man in a match. Gorilla: All I have to say Brain, is that I can't wait for the announcement this week on Superstars of Wrestling on who would be the sixteen wrestlers that get a chance to become the No. 1 contender.

Superstars of Wrestling, July 11th, 1987 Indianapolis, Indiana Announcers: Vince McMahon and Jesse VenturaSnake's Pit - Jake the Snake makes his way out with a ballot box beside him and says this is a special Snake's Pit because on the show sixteen Superstars will be selected for the elimination tournament on August 1st. Jake says he would like to bring out Jack Tunney who walks out to a mixed reaction. Tunney: We have decided to select sixteen Suprstars including one extra Superstar who would be facing Hulk Hogan that same night, by including all the names of all Superstars of the World Wrestling Federation in this ballot box. The names are organized in this ballot box and as the names are chosen, they will fill the order of matches of the tournament for Round 1. In order to pick the matches I would like to bring out the former WWF Heavyweight Champion, Hulk Hogan! [Hulk Hogan walks out] Hogan: I'm glad to be apart of this Tunney and thank you Jake for having me, because I am anxious to see the contenders for the challenge of a lifetime to face Andre for the title. I will be watching closely for this one, but most of all I will be watching for the seventeenth name in the box, because whoever that is, we'll be going at it neck to neck in a match on August 1st brother! Tunney: Mr. Hulk Hogan will you proceed. [Hulk picks out the names and the list goes as follows for Round 1] Macho Man Randy Savage [Heel] vs. Superstar Billy Graham [Face] George "the Animal" Steele [Face] vs. Kamala [Heel] Junkyard Dog [Face] vs. King Kong Bundy [Heel] Hillbilly Jim [Face] vs. Tito Santana [Face] Killer Khan [Heel] vs. Butch Reed [Heel] Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff [Heel] vs. King Harley Race [Heel] Ken Petera [Face] vs. One Man Gang [Heel] Don Muraco [Face] vs. Jake "the Snake" Roberts [Face] Jake: Well there you have it ladies and gentlemen and I'm excited about being in the tournament and getting a chance at the title. Bobby: [Bobby Heenan walks out to a lot of heat] This is an outrage Tunney. I want an explaination, why does Hulk Hogan get to pick the matches? And most importantly, how could you have both my men who I manage Mr. Wonderful and King Harley Race go one on one in a match? Tunney: Mr. Heenan, Hulk Hogan requested this and we gave him this great opportunity. The matches are now final. Bobby: Well then who is Hulk going to face? Hogan: We'll just see who the last name is brother [Hulk picks out a name and is in utter shock]. Bobby: Well who is it? Jake: Would you shut your mouth for a minute? Well Hulk who are you going to face? Hogan: [starts to hulk up] Andre the Giant! [the crowd erupts] Bobby: What the...this is madness, Andre is on vacation. Tunney: Wait just a minute let me see that...[takes a look at the piece of paper with Andre's name on it], well this is strange, this must have been... Bobby: Take it back and pick another name Hulk Hogan. Jake: Now hold on just a minute, I've been waiting for the right time for this. I got here a video tape (in a snake bag near damien's pit) to show you of a house show match where Andre participated in the event [passes it over to Tunney] Tunney: Well we will be taking a look at this video tape and if it is true that Andre did compete in a match in Japan, we will be forced to have Andre the Giant appear on August 1st to face against Hulk Hogan. However, if this match does happen, Mr. Hulk Hogan you must realize that it would be in a non-title match because your contract at Wrestlemania 3 does not allow you to fight for the title. Bobby: This is madness, this is crazy. That video tape is a lie! Jake: Get out of here you weren't even invited! [Bobby leaves saying he'll be talking to his lawyers about a law suit] Finally the trash is out of here. Well Hulk I must ask, if you face Andre in a non-title match, will you be ready for this one? Hulk: [Hulk gets angry and red] Yes!
