I've noticed JDS has the tendency to keep his chin up in the air, especially when going backwards. I kind of figured it would catch up to him sooner than later. He even mentioned, post-fight, how taking punches isn't a problem in training. That mentality has to stop, because absorbing those kind of blows, even though they might not get you KO'd, will still slow you down. He was already going to get slowed down with that knockdown and those takedowns. Good points, but Junior is one of the premier strikers in MMA, I think. His footwork is amazing.

Agree that Junior's footwork is great, but he didn't show it tonight. He shrugged Cain's early shots with ease. He might have gotten tired, he may have been injured, that's a million things that could have been. Cain definitely beat the sh*t out of him tonight, though, and Junior is the baddest of the bad for hanging in there the way he did. I was holding out until the last second that Junior might land a crushing blow. Great card. Had a great night watching with friends. I was calling for Lauzon's flying scissor heel hook and I marked the out when he went for it. Man, I wish he sunk it.

all ive watched so far is the prelims... but one of those judges, either doesnt know how the scorecard works, or is just not watching the same fights everyone else is. 30-27 guillard, and 29-28 pickett? the 29-28 pickett is a little more plausible... but that guillard/varner scoring was terrible. i had them 29-28 varner and 30-27 wineland personally.
on to the main card.

Eh, I thought 29-28 Pickett wasn't TOO far of a stretch, but I absolutely thought Wineland won. Shames me to say as a Pickett fan, but a spade is a spade. I enjoyed that fight though.
30-27 Guillard was just INSANE to me. Absolutely insane.

Oh I know he got the dog piss kicked out of him, that was very clear, but I'm just saying the fight would have been different (I think) if Cain haddn't landed that (awesome) punch. Just what I think. Junior did a GREAT job earlier on in Round 1. Let's be real. No one has ever stuffed THAT many of Cain's takedowns. Give credit where credit is due. I'm not even going to lie, I'm a JDS fan, but it's not like this defeat is tough to swallow for me, because it's not. Cain is an amazing fighter himself. He deserved it.

joe lauzons face after round 1... tremendous. the first 3 fights of the main card were kinda meh... the best round of it, was probably rd 1 boetsch/costa, before the broken hand, headbutt and eye poke, and then that fight fell apart too. but i knew that this fight... would make it all worthwhile. this fight in particular brings it up, but two other fights... tognoni and winslow... the refs got WAAAAYYY too involved in some of these fights. lauzon is finally in a good position, putting something together.... and you wanna stop to cut a hanging piece of tape off? get out of here. wow, that was ing awesome. that was really really awesome... i wonder how close that choke was at the end.

Pretty gutted JDS lost since he's my favourite fighter, but I know he'll come back stronger. I'm guessing he'll most likely fight the loser of Bigfoot/Overeem?

beautiful gameplan by cain. he tagged him with that shot, and that quickened up what he wanted to do... but, it was obvious from the jump, he was gonna throw jabs and just chase takedowns, even if junior stuffed them... he wanted to make him work, and play the cardio game. brilliant.
and the shove at the end of round 1... if junior didnt come out hot at the start of round 2 after that, he was already mentally defeated. losses strengthen great fighters... and we still know, that junior can knock people out at will, and can stuff takedowns at will. he'll be back, and he'll be fine. we'll see a 3rd fight between them at some point im sure.
i realize that lately, i just love throwing cormiers name around for potential fighters... but what about cormier/jds. if overeem destroys silva, after silva got destroyed by cain already... he really shouldnt be fighting at top of the division guys anymore.

Choke at the end wasn't anything. You could see just at the very last second that Lauzon's hands, not his forearm was around Miller's neck. The kneebar was pretty sick though.

Interesting. I was reading on a Brazilian website that had an interview with JDS. He said he didn't even bring in wrestlers AT ALL for his camp. What. The. ? That's insane to me.

On a lighter note, here's Brunson celebrating like he just won by KO after the most boring fight on the card.

I went 0-5 in my picks for the main card, lol. Cain looked amazing - I think JDS will learn from this and come back a better fighter though. Can't wait to see Cain Vs Overeem...
