I had the same problem when I found Lawler last night. I had to go through two cashiers with crappy attitudes and a supervisor before they finally got a manager who just marked it down without question.

My Lawler rang up 22.99 and my Taker rang up 19.99. TRU thinks they run $hit. You must have been in a TRU that is considered a high volume store. There's one in my area that jacks up the prices. Also the TRU express stores do that.

Seriously, it's $2 more for a harder to find figure in the set, I don't get why you wouldn't spend it if you wanted the figure badly enough.

I know the whole arguement of it gives them justification to jack up prices. But in this case I jumped on not one but the 3 I needed at the 19.99 price on TRU.com. (Fixups and such).

I mean, I understand that the price went up a tad, but it's not like it was a HUGE jump, it was only $2. You can find that under your car seat in change.

I wasn't going to go back to TRU for a while since it was unlikely they would have anything new in, but after people started finding the new Best of Elites, I thought I would take a chance.
I was surprised to find all the series 18 I left on Tuesday still hanging on the pegs. Including both Lawlers. I took this as a sign. I had to get someone to understand.
I tracked down a red shirt and he tried to whisk Lawler up to the front to check his price, but I stopped him, telling him that was the problem. It was ringing up at the wrong price. He didn't seem to understand, but luckily, miraculously, a more experienced employee happened by and I explained myself to him.
He scanned about 5 Rey Mysterios. All $16.99. Lawler $19.99. He scanned a Big Book Promo Undertaker. $19.99. The wheels were turning. I asked him to look at the back of the box where it shows Lawler alongside the rest of Elite 18 including the Mysterio he just scanned 5 times.
"Huh. That's weird." He said several times. But eventually he uttered "yeah, they all come in the same box" and I knew I was golden. He radioed up to the front that someone would be bringing a Jerry Lawler figure up and to adjust the price to $16.99. I knew exactly the cashier to go to. Nobody waiting in line. Another sign.
She actually commended me on my resolve. I "knew I was right and I was" she commented. I was right. But I don't blame the employees, except for not really listening to the customers when they try and explain things. Sometimes the customer is right.
