I was watching the Wrestlemania 3 dvd and noticed that Hillbilly Jim's theme is gone in place of a generic hillbilly tune. I know Demolition's theme has been gone for awhile. Ricky Steamboat 1st WWF theme is also missing.
I'm sure quite abit of WCW stock themes are gone?
Please come in and post any themes that you've noticed are now edited by WWE. If you know why, please share!

I don't think they ever owned Ricky Steamboat's original theme. The Chicago Bull always used it during their player introductions as well.
I don't see why they would stop using a lot of the other themes though. Didn't Jim Johnston write just about all of them?

Anytime a guy used an actual song for his theme, I think it's been replaced in DVDs and media. For instance, Edge's Rob Zombie theme from years ago is missing, if I'm not mistaken. Old ECW compilations feature the wrestler's WWE theme rather than the song they entered to (for instance, Pantera or Pearl Jam).
Otherwise, I'm not sure. I know some themes have been replaced over the years in DVDs that have surprised me, but not sure about them at the moment.

ECW defo sufferes the most here.......but then again their entrance tunes lineup included
White Zombie-Pitbulls Ini Kamoze-Public Enemy Offspring-Raven Metallica-Sandman Pantera-RVD
so we can see why they are heavily effected.I know when you are watching Badass Taker they no longer play Kid Rocks "American Badass" or Limp Bizkits "Rollin"

I've been wondering about this lately also. I picked up the first 3 Wrestlemania Anthologies a few months back when I caught them on sale and was very disappointed with how many enterance themes had been changed on them. It's pretty crappy watching Demolition come out to that lousy music and canned crowd chants.

I think it comes down to who's producing the DVD. WWE has different teams that produce different DVDs. Even though they owned the music, they didn't anticipate the success of DVD and let the rights to some of the music expire thinking they wouldn't need it. Whatever production team in charge of that DVD decides what music to pay for. In 2003 there were some DVD's that had Booker T & Trish Stratus' music done over, but the next release they were back to normal. Just like a lot of themes on the WM box set (Bossman, Slick, Demolition, Dusty Rhodes, etc.) were replaced with cheaper alternitives, while on the Royal Rumble box set, they remain intact. I'm betting since then WWE has gotten the rights to use the music again. It's like how when a TV show comes out on DVD and the theme music is replaced. But then again WWE probably thinks that as long as you have the matches you will be happy. I mean we're talking about the same company who would rather take the time blur out half the screen and bleep every mention of the letter f, than come to a settlement sooner. I'm sure they think "If we release it, they will buy it regardless", which I can't blame them for because it's pretty much true.

It seems like they gain and lose rights to the nWo theme every other year.

I always wonder about the Hardy's & Hardcore Holly's. I feel like I hear one of those on a reality show every few weeks.

As far as I know, those are in the public domain and can be used by anyone. I remember watching SmackDown on UPN in like 2002 and hearing those themes used in ads for other shows having nothing to do with WWE at all.

I think Cactus Jack's theme. I've noticed it's been replaced on newer DVD's Yup. They also use a modified version of it in WWE '13 as well.

Big Boss Man 'Hard Times' I believe is now missing from anthology sets. The Big Bossman's "Servin' Hard Times" theme was only dubbed over on the WrestleMania Anthology. On the Royal Rumble and SummerSlam Anthology sets, it was kept intact. As for Demolition, look at what I wrote above. "Jive Soul Bro", it was kept intact beginning on the SummerSlam Anthology. With some of these dubbed songs, you can still hear the original music if you listen close enough. Two examples is "Jive Soul Bro" at WrestleMania V and "Servin' Hard Times" at WrestleMania VII. On a side note, if you pause frame by frame, you can see glimpses on the WWF Scratch logo. On newer releases, the scratch logo won't be blurred out. Case in point, the recent Attitude Era DVD/Blu-Ray.
