I'm just curious if anybody knows why Mattel chooses some of the colors they do to paint these figures. Most CM Punk figures have jet black hair and jet black beards.....I don't know if anybody from Mattel has turned on a TV and watched 9 seconds of anything involving CM Punk, but he's got BROWN hair and BROWN facial hair. Let's not forget about the infamous Elite 11 Punk that mind bogglingly had brown hair(correct) but a BLACK beard(WHY?)! Same with Cody Rhodes. His first Elite figure and his first two 2-pack figures were correct with brown hair.... but every figure since, JET BLACK hair. Why? In real life, Cody has BROWN HAIR. Add that to all of the ginger haired Shawn Michaels figures we get and the fact that most facial hair is either the wrong color or it looks like a person who drew on their beard with a magic marker. I'm just shocked that for the price we pay for these figures that Mattel gets things like hair and beards so drastically wrong. I think Mattel needs to pay better attention to hair and facial hair....because we've seen some of the scans repainted by the members we have here that make fantastic customs, and the scans look far better when they are painted correctly. But the wrong colors or a horrible paint app can kill a great scan!

That Orton beard on that figure is ridiculous! How that made it to shelves is beyond me

Only thing I can think of is Punk's hair looks way darker when he slicked it back with product. Now that he's buzzed his head and has that awful patchy, 12 yr old beard, it looks way lighter.

Look at Sheamus they recently made his hair color the color of a velvet cake... The mishaps with Sheamus in particular constantly blow my mind. In my opinion, they finally nailed his hair color with the B20 figure. I have no idea why we continue to get Sheamus with ketchup red hair. The black hair thing I can deal with, because I haven't really noticed it and it hasn't bothered me, but every time I see a new Sheamus whose hair isn't or close to the color the used on B20, it irritates me every time.

I agree I read this a few hours ago and that was my thought. Honestly you could have picke a better picture of rhodes his hair looks kind of black. The punk you chose his hair you can see brown, but is mostly black. I don't know about orton there was no comparison photo and I'm not going looking for one. same thing with Ryder. Also figure this the figure is based off something a year ago. so just pulling a random photo and saying that not how they looked. really? Do famous people not change thier hair style and color atleast once per year? Yea I know that may not apply to wrestlers, but I think you know what I mean and most of them do. Rhodes for example not rockin some upper lip hair changed his look

ZACK RYDER What the hell? Get the F'ing color right mattel The Ryder figures are fine. He did a terrible dye job during his big push and was walking around with ginger hair for a while.

Mind bogglingly? I learned something new. All the scans look ok with me with the exception of Orton.

Mind bogglingly? I learned something new. All the scans look ok with me with the exception of Orton. I totally agree with you. The SCANS are great. But my point the whole time is that a great scan can be made to look like crap if it's not painted properly. I mean, look at Elite 9 Randy Orton. GREAT scan, painted well, overall fantastic figure. Now, let's look at that SAME SCAN used on a different figure, but this time painted with a horrible magic marker beard. Hmmm, not looking as good all of a sudden, is it?

I agree. They can't do 5 o' clock shadow right. They paint on a full, dark beard. That Orton's beard is the best example of their terrible painting of facial hair. I was dumbfounded when I got it.

Every single light beard they make should look like Andre's. They NAILED it for that figure. All the Ortons with a beard look weird because a) it's too thick and b) he doesn't have a full beard, but some sort of mutton chops thing going on. As far as hair goes, HBK always seems off. The ones that have orange hair just look silly, and the ones with more accurate hair (E19) are still too dark brown: Sheamus looked great in that B20 set. His hair was orange and it looked like the right shade. Then they kept making him with that (as a previous poster put it) 'velvet cake' hair. And then they changed his torso to Austin/Rock's, so I actually think his Basic figures look all-around awful now aside from attire deco. I hate how most of the divas have straight colored hair. Hair, women's long hair especially, has texture. Any hair that especially needs that and is instead just a glob of one-tone paint looks bad. I've seen members do a tremendous job fixing up hair this way. That new Christian scan is his best yet, and with just a little extra texturing, it fully shows. They do it for some people, but not nearly enough. The thing I miss about Jakks is that their jeans looked like jeans and their hair usually looked like hair...in figure form, of course. It's because they textured things. Of everything they do well, this is probably Mattel's weakest area.
