I have been sitting at home, on my couch, and wasting my life away ever since my early retirement. A stupid neck injury and now I cannot do what I've wanted to do for my entire life, for what my entire family has done since its existence. I cannot help but feel useless as I am not preforming the very task I was put on the Earth to do. Sure, time with my family has been great and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, but my self-worth is just in the crapper. I know I have something left in the tank but my family doesn't want to see me risk my entire life for a silly sport. What they don't seem to understand is that this isn't just a sport for me; this has been my life forever. After stepping away earlier this year, I had mixed feelings on what would come. I kept telling myself that it would be for the better that I don't risk my life anymore and that I just play it safe and become the family man my father never was. All this sounded great and wonderful and it was at first. I actually got to know my little children who, before this time off, I only knew through phone calls and infrequent visits. My beautiful daughter is growing up so fast and my son looks more like me each day. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. What I do know is that I wasn't cut out for this kind of life. Wrestling is my real passion and my wife knows it. Hell, I think my young children know that I would rather be in a ring than at home. But, as per the doctor's strict orders, I will never be able to wrestle again.
The ironic thing is that I don't even know if people will pay to see me anymore. Hell, they never really did; I always seemed to be the added throw it to the show that made you go, 'DSJ will be there? I guess that's a plus.' I digress on this talk, as no one needs to hear it, but what you guys need to hear about is why I am even talking here. For the past few months, I have sat on my couch and walked televised wrestling programs, old and new, and got the big itch to come back. BUT, I can't even come back to the ring. For months I thought about what the hell I could actually do. Should I come back and manage someone? What promotion would hire a 38 year old with a terrible neck? This is the question I would keep asking myself until I had a revelation. I thought back to when I made the most money, when I was most busy in life. Back in 2009, nearly three years ago, I had such a steady job that I couldn't work for any other promotion. The concept of the promotion and how it was run was amazing; like nothing I or the fans had ever seen before. A league of wrestlers that are in teams like any other organized sport? That's a crazy thought that would never work, but let's give it a shot! Well, my first thought was definitely right, it didn't fully work, but the full year that we had was indescribable. So I thought, what the hell is going on with those guys who ran it? I did a little digging, which wasn't hard since I was still decent friends with some of the staff and found out that the man who used to run it, while he remained anonymous, had passed away and left everything he had to his wife. Everything? I set up a phone meeting with the widow to find out exactly what happen and while those details are necessary to my announcement today, you all need to know that it was a very unfortunate passing. Nevertheless, we talked business after a short time of small talk and it all came down to one thing. She would love to sell me the rights to the name, since she had needed the money to pay bills, but this would lead me to have to find some sort of cash. I told her we'd be in touch with no intentions of calling her back since there was no way that I would find the money to purchase the rights, let alone run this promotion.
That was until mid-August. My wife, as silly as she is sometimes, convinced me to go up to the new casino that had opened about a half year ago. Thinking zero of this, I decided to tag along. I didn't know at the time, but it was the best decision I could have made. That night, my wife was fortunate to win a jackpot on a stupid slot machine and walk away with close to a million dollars (before stupid New York tax of course). We figured that we would just store money away for the kids and college. That was done and they were paid off. But we both agreed that we couldn't just stop working; we would hate being home all the time. That's when I brought up the proposition to her for the company. Honestly, as cliche as it sounds, the rest was history. I was able to 'borrow' the money from my wife to purchase the rights to the National Wrestling League. As of right now, I am working on sorting out the details for the company, but expect it to follow the same format as it once did. With, of course, a Duan Sanchez Jr. twist.
I promise you all that there will be more to come. It may be in the near future or it may be in the new year. Please, pay attention.

Literally had them in my sig just prior to this one, absolutely adore them. Anyway don't want to draw the conversation away from what Duan's doing too much as this is fantastically done and written, write up was amazing. Can't wait for more man. |
