The Hickenbottom Report - Ranking the WFWF Superstars
The following is a transcript from the Hickenbottom Report, a podcast that follows all things wrestling related.
Hola wrestling fans. This is your favorite wrestling podcaster and blogger Mike Hickenbottom about to create some controversy because that's what I do best. We were browsing the WFWF website and noticed they haven't posted wrestler rankings in years, perhaps because owner Trace Demon is afraid that he won't be ranked #1 so he kiboshed the idea. Well, those of us here at the Hickenbottom Report aren't worried about offending anyone, not even a WFWF superstar who could break into our house in the middle of the night and kill us (so much death in the WFWF lately, how do they get life insurance?). SuperBrawl IX, the biggest show of shows, is fast approaching so we are bringing back the tradition from an outsiders point of view. You're welcome to argue about it in the comments section on our website. Be warned: trolls will be found and RKO'd by our new intern Randy. You won't see it coming!
Without any further ado, here are our WFWF Superstar rankings! #15 Big McLargehuge - He has really impressed us with his size and power in his two wins. He's not the sharpest nail in the toolbox but damn is he big and dangerous.
#14 Frank Lynn - A relative newcomer to wrestling but not to fighting. We remember him from his MMA days and know he is a tough competitor. He has been winning his way through the under card with an eye on moving up by claiming the Golden Opportunity at SuperBrawl.
#13 Ante Whitner - He's a bit of a mystery with how he comes and goes but he is back for now and looks ready to claim the Golden Opportunity at SuperBrawl. His experience could be the trump card that propels him past newcomers like Lynn and McLargehuge #12 Cam Nitta - Always solid yet somehow he has gotten lost compared to the higher ranked veterans on the list.
#11 Dex - Another superstar who is always solid yet never spectacular compared to those ranked higher than him. We are waiting for him to challenge for a title and validate his World Heavyweight Championship run in the past.
#10 The Future - The caped Futchador has been impressive in his return to the WFWF but we have to ask - who has he really beaten? The Future needs a big win at SuperBrawl to firmly establish himself in the top ten.
#9 Samael Ahriman - Sammy might be ranked higher except that he so rarely appears anymore and rumors persist that his time in the WFWF is coming to an end. A great wrestler but perhaps his time has past.
#8 Yukio Blaze - This one was hotly debated here at the Hickenbottom offices. He hasn't been around in so long that many people don't know who the hell he is. He won't even wrestle in a match until the SuperBrawl main event so we have no idea if he still has "it". Based on reputation alone we have to hot shot him into the top ten but a loss could drop him right back out of the list.
#7 Joe Bishop - The recently returned superstar is a man on a mission and has been annihilating opponents along the way. We predict championship gold for him once he disposes of the Future.
#6 David Brennan - Okay, we don't like ranking this drunken sum'bitch this high because he keeps winning his matches by bashing his opponents with a PBR tall boy. We aren't as offended by the cheating as much as we are by his choice of beer. PBR? Really? You're from Boston - at least use the good stuff like Sam Adams. Regardless, he just keeps winning. He even won his first title but got stripped of it almost immediately. He is a very real threat to take the International Title way from Lucas Crowe and jump up a few spots.
#5 Cameron Stone - He is a big and dangerous man on a mission to regain some gold after losing his National Title to Lucas Crowe. We are worried that Trace Demon's mind games may derail him though so he could drop down if he doesn't win at SuperBrawl.
#4 Joshua Dean - No longer a tag team champion but still a real threat to those who do hold the gold. He is also the highest ranked "good guy" on our list so that sort of makes him #1. The Franchise needs to step it up at SuperBrawl to move up the rankings.
#3 Trace Demon - He is the owner of the WFWF. That gives him a lot of power. But he is also a damn good wrestler and a consistent top contender. If he had a championship he would be #1. In fact, we are surprised he hasn't used his power to win a belt already. He is one to watch out for at SuperBrawl.
#2 Lucas Crowe - This may be a bit of surprise but there is no denying the 2015 rookie of the year is a major force in the WFWF. He won the International Championship, consolidated it with the National Championship, and continues to run roughshod over his competition thanks to the guidance of Justin Tyme and the assistance of the Wreckers. In his last match he showed that he is still improving as he adds mat skills to his brawler style.
#1 Drakz - He isn't a double champion anymore but he still is the World Heavyweight Champion and that makes him the top dog. Didn't someone once say "To be the man you have to beat the man!" Well, Drakz is the man and until someone beats him he will stay on top of the rankings.
To those in the WFWF not ranked in the top 15 we say sorry. We have to call it like we see it and in a few cases we just haven't seen enough recently to rank you. Either you haven't been in enough matches or you've been losing the matches you have been in. Step it up at SuperBrawl and you could make the next list.
'Till next time, this has been Mike Hickenbottom with the Hickenbottom WFWF Superstar rankings!
[NOTE: I was browsing the WFWF.COM thread from the beginning and noticed that rankings hadn't been done in a long time. I thought it would be fun to throw something together heading into SuperBrawl and present it as coming from an outside source so you can debate the results and/or post official rankings if you want.]

WFWF.com ExclusiveVASS THE SLAYER AND MAXWELL DACHS INVOLVED IN BACKSTAGE ALTERCATION
WFWF Superstars Maxwell Dachs and Vass "The Slayer", who are booked to face one another in a triple threat match at The Gate, reportedly had to be pulled apart backstage. Stories are varied, but the general consensus is that Vass had the upper hand. Though we are currently unaware when this altercation took place, it is being said that it was during a promo taping for the upcoming Pay-Per-View.

Alecia Matthews: Ladies and gentlemen we are now just fifteen short minutes away from the grandest show in all of wrestling, the ninth annual-ish Superbrawl! Daniel Knight: I am Daniel Knight along with my partner- Alecia Matthews: You wish. Daniel Knight: My charming partner Alecia Matthews. We’re kicking things off in style right now with an over the top battle royal to decide the final competitor in tonight’s Golden Opportunity match. Alecia Matthews: And in the ring we already have three of our five competitors. Devin Alexander, Apollo Sol and Bulletproof Bobby Hall. Daniel Knight: That’s what you get when you don’t show up. Alecia Matthews: You mean to the entrance meeting, right? Daniel Knight: Yeah, sure, that’s what I meant. Christa Adina: The following match is an over the top battle royal to determine the final competitor in tonight’s Golden Opportunity match! The arena is dark, almost pitch black, but Vass can still be seen. As Vass enters the arena, he takes a look around and takes in his surroundings. He slowly walks to the stage, then stops in place. His head is down, and he's clutching his wrist. Once the music drops, he shakes his head and punches the air, tightens his gloves and begins to walk down to the ring. The lights get brighter as we walks down the aisle. The intensity is palpable, as this man is shrouded in mystery. He walks slowly, focused on the ring. He slides under the ropes and jumps up from a prone position. He punches the air a few more times and then climbs the turnbuckle and raises his arm.Christa Adina: From Calgary, Alberta, Canada, weighing in at 215lbs and standing 6’1… Vass “The Slayer”! Daniel Knight: See, Vass was late to the meeting, but at least that means he still gets an entrance. Christa Adina: And finally… Bison enters to Running Free by Iron Maiden. Brandon stops after he leaves the curtain and turns to the right, snaps, then to the left, and snaps his fingers again. He makes his way to the ring donning his floral/knit shirt and slides into the ring. Bison climbs the ropes and raises his fist. He stretches and turns to face the entrance as he jogs in place.Christa Adina: Hailing from Hollywood, Florida, weighing in at 230lbs, standing 6’2… Brandon Bison! With all five men in the ring Christa Adina makes a swift exit and the official on the outside signals for the bell. This one is on!
DING! DING! DING!
Devin Alexander immediately begins shouting things at the others but he’s just so British that nobody has any idea what he’s saying. Bison shuts him up immediately with a right hand to the jaw that floors him and everything explodes. Vass and Bulletproof Bobby Hall go at it while Bison tries to take out the biggest man in the fight, the big Greek Apollo Sol.Alecia Matthews: Well things have erupted into an all out brawl right from the off. Daniel Knight: Good thing too, it’s the pre-show, we’re working on a very limited time span remember. The four men go at it while Devin Alexander nurses his jaw in the corner of the ring. Bison is thrown into the opposing corner where Sol begins putting the boots to the mid-section. Vass and Bobby Hall are exchanging rights and lefts just straight up trying to knock each other out. There’s no technical wrestling here, these guys know the only way to win is over the top rope. Sol tries to eliminate one threat immediately when he grabs Bison around the throat and straight up tries to lob him over the top but Bison connects with a swift right hand that stuns Sol enough to break his grip.Alecia Matthews: Close call for Bison there. Wouldn’t the smart thing to be to focus on Sol, I mean he’s pretty damn tall. Daniel Knight: We’re talking wrestlers here. They’re not the brightest bulbs. Tell that to Devin Alexander who’s happily chilling in the corner while the rest of the field takes care of themselves. Bobby Hall’s got Vass on the ropes, literally, having got the better of the brawl and now trying to lift him up and over. Vass hits a few swifts elbows to the side of the head that forces the break and the two go right back to brawling. That is until Alexander sees his opening and charges at them both. He nails the double clothesline to the two unsuspecting opponents and sends both of them over the top rope! Bobby Hall crashes to the outside but Vass manages to hold onto the top rope and land with both feet on the apron.Christa Adina: Bobby Hall has been eliminated! Alecia Matthews: And there’s the first elimination, Devin “Prim” Alexander biding his time. Daniel Knight: Smart move, but he didn’t quite get the job done. And he knows it from Christa Adina’s announcement. Prim turns to find Vass on the apron and charges at him, hoping to finish the job. Vass ducks down and drives a shoulder into the mid-section through the ropes, stunning Alexander. Vass leans over, hooking the smaller man with a front chancery and then lifts him up with some impressive strength. He holds him in the air, turns towards the outside and dumps him straight down to the floor!Christa Adina: Devin Alexander has been eliminated! Alecia Matthews: And there goes Alexander. Daniel Knight: And he was doing so well too. While Vass climbs back into the ring and catches his breath Brandon Bison continues to try to fight off Apollo Sol, but every time he builds up a head of steam he’s brought a screeching halt by the sheer power of the big Greek. Sol grabs Bison with a single hand around the throat and just straight up tries to push him over the top rope but again Bison is quick to begin throwing rights. They don’t work though, Sol’s a man on a mission, so instead Bison goes for the next best thing and straight up boots the big man right in the groin.Daniel Knight: Oh that’s a low blow, literally. Alecia Matthews: There’s no disqualifications in a battle royal, Bison just used his brain. Sol drops to his knees in pain and Bison immediately attempts to lift him up to go for the elimination. But Sol’s dead weight right now and his 245lbs frame is not shifting easily. That’s when Vass comes in for the assist, Bison and The Slayer working together to haul Sol up onto his feet. They manage it, but it takes so long that Apollo has time to recover and he straight up throws the two men backwards across the ring. They’re both quick to their feet though and, with one nod to each other, both of them charge forwards and drill Sol with a huge double clothesline that sends him over the top rope and crashing to the outside.Christa Adina: Apollo Sol has been eliminated! Alecia Matthews: And then there were two. Daniel Knight: Brandon Bison and Vass The Slayer. One of these men will be the sixth and final entrant into the Golden Opportunity match later tonight. The other doesn’t even make it onto the show. Bison and Vass waste no time in unloading on each other with rights and lefts, both men attempting to get the better of the exchange. Vass comes out on top, hitting with enough force to push Bison back against the ropes. Vass goes for the Irish whip but Bison counters, sending Vass against the ropes and then charging him on the rebound. The Slayer ducks underneath a clothesline and then bounces off the ropes again, catching Bison with a big shoulder block on the return.Alecia Matthews: Both men trying to weaken the other, but it’s only going to take one moment to win this one. Daniel Knight: And they’ll want to make it a quick moment, neither of them want to be in that ring long when the winner has to wrestle again tonight. Vass grabs Bison by the head and drags him up onto his feet and over to the corner. He ducks down and hooks the leg, trying to lift Bison up and over the top rope. Bison fights back, catching Vass in the face with a sick kick that sends him stumbling backwards. Brandon Bison lifts himself up onto the middle rope and leaps off, catching the standing Vass with a diving elbow drop that takes him straight down! Bison grabs Vass by the head and drags him up and then runs to the rope, trying to toss Vass straight over it but The Slayer drives an elbow backwards into the ribs at the last moment to save himself!Alecia Matthews: And just like you said Daniel it looks like Bison wants to end this one quick. Daniel Knight: But Vass is no pushover as you can see, he might just have Bison’s number. Bison’s winded and Vass begins unloading with right hands with Bison delivers a vicious headbutt out of nowhere! Vass is stunned, stumbling backwards against the ropes. Bison charges and hits a clothesline but for the second time tonight Vass manages to hold onto the ropes and land on the apron unbeknownst to Bison. Brandon turns around just as Vass leaps up, springboards off of the ropes and goes for The Switchblade… but Bison dodges it!Alecia Matthews: Brandon Bison manages to dodge The Switchblade! Impressive agility from the big man. Daniel Knight: But can he capitalise? Oh he can. Bison grabs the surprised Vass, lifting him up into a power bomb but instead of planting him with The Final Breath he instead turns and goes to power bomb him straight out of the ring! But Vass manages to hold on, hooking his legs around the head and grabbing the ropes. Vass leans backwards, attempting to drag Bison over the top rope… but Bison shows off some incredible strength when he powers Vass up and then slams down shoulders first onto the ring apron. Vass loses his hold on Bison and drops down to the floor!Christa Adina: Vass The Slayer has been eliminated! Your winner, and advancing to the Golden Opportunity match… Brandon Bison! Alecia Matthews: Bison does it! Bison beats four other men and books his spot on the Superbrawl card. Daniel Knight: But has he got enough left in the tank to finish the job? The crowd pop loudly as Brandon Bison look up at the Superbrawl sign, knowing full well that he has booked himself in possibly the biggest match of his career. As the pre-show fades out on the image of Brandon Bison standing tall in the middle of the ring one thing’s for certain.
This is just the beginning of one wild night.

SuperBrawl IX has come and gone with some huge matches resulting in earthquake level shifts in our power rankings. New Champions, surprising returns, and potential retirements (which eliminate certain people from being on the list - I’m looking at you Samael Ahriman, Penny Shannon, Quentin Alexander, etc.) have led to a lot of shifting in positions for the WFWF Superstars.
Without any further ado, here are our post SuperBrawl WFWF Superstar rankings!
#10 (tie) Frank Lynn Frank is a rising star but he came up short in the Golden Opportunity match losing to the more experienced Ante Whitner and the other four newcomers. That makes him 0 for 2 in title matches. He has to overcome his own inexperience and learn how to win the big one or risk becoming a shooting star that crashes and is quickly forgotten. He also has to deal with LeeRoy Jenkins, who has made it his mission to make Frank suffer.
#10 (tie) Dex He had his chance at SuperBrawl to rid himself and the WFWF of Penny Shannon but the queen of hardcore taught him a lesson he won’t soon forget. Dex’s ride on the roller coaster of up one week and down the next continues. He could benefit from a few wins in a row to re-establish himself as a contender. That is, if he survives Penny’s vengeance at the next show.
#9 Cameron Stone At one time Cameron Stone was a major player holding the prestigious International title and a pin over Drakz. Lately though he has lost his direction as he fell victim to the manipulations of Trace Demon and his results have suffered. He needs to find his focus once again to be considered a top tier player in the WFWF.
#8 Joshua Dean Things have not gone well for the Franchise recently and SuperBrawl continued that downward trend. He needs to get back to his winning ways after losing his tag titles and his chamber match bid to dethrone Drakz. We’re sure Drakz and Trace Demon will have him jumping through hoops to make his way back into the title picture so he could have more hard times ahead.
#7 Lucas Crowe Lucas Crowe took a big drop this time around. He lost his International Championship and rumors persist that there are serious problems between him and long time manager Justin Tyme. The big man needs to come back strong either taking his title back from Brennan or working his way into a rematch by beating Ante Whitner for the Golden Opportunity.
#6 Trace Demon We said it last time and it is still true. Trace is the owner of the WFWF. That gives him a lot of power. He is also a damn good wrestler and a consistent top contender. BUT he didn’t get the job done at SuperBrawl. You can bet he will find his way back to the front of the line and make another challenge soon.
#5 Ante Whitner Ante came through at SuperBrawl winning a six man ladder match to claim the Golden Opportunity. Can he take the next step and cash in to dethrone the newly crowned International Champion David Brennan?
#4 Joe Bishop Joe took a huge step forward in his return when he beat HOFer the Future at SuperBrawl. It was a definite step up in singles competition and should have everyone worried that they may be the next victim of his crusade to bring pure athletic competition back to the WFWF. We predict championship gold around his waist sometime soon.
#3 Drakz He still is the World Heavyweight Champion but just barely. Fact is, Drakz has been on a downward slide ever since Black Hole Sun. He lost his tag team team championship and most of his wins are of the “questionable” nature as he has been stretchered out of the arena more often than not. Who knows what his physical condition is now but it can’t be good after that brutal Elimination Chamber match. We think his hold on the title is very tenuous and the time could finally be coming when the longest title reign ever finally comes to an end.
#2 David Brennan We said win at SuperBrawl and a wrestler could move up dramatically. Case in point. A sober Brennan took care of business beating Lucas Crowe and claiming his first ever singles title. The win streak continues. Can anyone stop this runaway freight train?
#1 Michael Kyzer No, he didn’t have a match. No, he didn’t win a title. Hell, we’re not even sure if he is back or if his appearance was a one off to pop the crowd at the end of SuperBrawl. But the point remains: he did show up and he sent a dramatic message to the champion and challengers with his actions. The WFWF was put on notice, the God of F*ck apparently has one more f*ck to give about who is the best.
To those in the WFWF not ranked we say sorry. We have to call it like we see it and in a few cases we just haven't seen enough recently to rank you. Either you haven't been in enough matches or you've been losing the matches you have been in. Step it up and you could make the next list.
'Till next time, this has been Mike Hickenbottom with the Hickenbottom WFWF Superstar rankings![Note: Yeah, I put myself on the f*cking list even though I lost. I wrote the damn thing so I can do that. ]

Mike Hickenbottom is a show stopping hack. If big name returns qualify a number one spot on his ranking spectrum, shouldn't everyone from #2 on down be bumped down a spot to make room for Obo?

From a kayfabe POV, Kyzer made a huge impact on the main event effectively deciding the winner and apparently threw his hat in the ring for a title shot. Obo came out for five seconds and gave a sarcastic round of applause for Whitner. Until their intentions are made clearer, Kyzer is the man and Obo was a cheap pop. From a non-kayfabe POV, Mike is out to create controversy and apparently he succeeded
